The best movie ever. There aren't other films which can describe what Once Upon a Time in America is. The feelings of regret, lost occasions and memories can't be represented better, also because the acting of Robert DeNiro is the definition of acting. He's the best actor ever. This motion picture is also better than another Sergio Leone masterpiece "The Good, the Bad & the Ugly", even though they're totally different things.

I hope that within my lifetime I am able to see the film the way that Sergio Leone intended. Even the "extended" version is extremely cut down. They had over 18 hours of film and the story was meant to be told through two films that were 6 hours long. Imagine how much of this masterpiece we are missing. You can find some of the scenes online but most of it never made it to the internet. I truly hope before I die I am able to see it.

Once Upon a Time in America is one of my favorite movies. It is a true story about life and trusting people. I think Robert DeNiro wasted his whole life mourning the loss of his best friend because he was loyal and thought he was responsible for his death. He was a true friend then in the end he was very blindsighted for 40 years to find out his best friend was not dead and took the love of his life. and all his money. James Woods had been living a very wealthy lifestyle for years and Robert DeNiro lived a poor lifestyle. Love Robert DeNiro, James Woods and lady who played both men's love interest. I love the theme yesterday it is so appropriate.

But the ending also has this moral conclusion that everything you do, will one day or another come back at you. Max has it all, but in the end he lost it all: his soul, dignity and selfrespect. @rboltt14 жыл бұрын
The movie is much more complex than a simplistic "crime doesn't pay" melodrama. The phone call to the police is the focal point of the story. Leone's intention was to let the viewer decide if the the 1968 scenes were all real or just an opium dream to satisfy Noodles' guilt of having indirectly caused the death of his friends despite his good intentions. That is why the film ends in the opium den. The real themes of this film are friendship, betrayal and the passage of time.

That is a very powerful, clear and succinct interpretation: "For every dreamer, there's a doer." This is a theme which appears throughout the movie. And under this idea, you can indeed say that Noodles' tragedy is his opium dreams. In other words, it is his addiction to unreality that keeps him from achieving Max's (albeit illegal) success. But I think the movie also frowns upon this kind of illicit action, because Max's crisis at the end is very real indeed.
