The beauty of these masterclasses is that people can be aware of all the subtle work that guitar players do daily. We often admire some guitar player, but we forget (or we don't know) how many hours must be spent in the delicate, precise and subtle work. Thanks Denis!

I see a lot of people think that the masterclasses should not be like this.But to tell you the truth,most of the masterclasses are just like this.This class obviously is not a pro student but a guitar amateur who take a class with Denis.And most of the classes upload by Denis are just like this.These students may just want to play some pieces they like and want to get some advices from Denis.So stop over judge Denis' way of teaching.Denis is one of the best guitarist of the day,and I think I am lucky to see his lesson here.

The major difference with this and a master class with a renowned master, say Julian Bream or Segovia, there is no way in hell you will get to play the full piece. You would be stopped within 10 seconds because all has been revealed by then. Having said that, great observations and advice by Denis.

I think his left hand problems would be helped if he tilted the guitar more kind of the way grisha goryachev (sp?)tends to hold it. Just an idea.
@spruceguitar

Well, he can’t. The flamenco posture and the classical guitar one come from two different worlds. It’s almost like saying “pick up a folk guitar with metal strings and play asturias.” Also, if he held the guitar in the flamenco style he wouldn’t benefit from the opening to the neck that he has access to this way. Grisha is a wonderful player but you can’t make either one of them adopt the other’s posture. In this case, the instrument becomes more stabilized held as a classical guitar - which is wobbly when held as a flamenco guitar.

Good lesson. Still students should focus more on developing their technique before attempting to play pieces like Leyenda, Recuerdas, La Catedral, etc. This student is not yet ready for Leyenda.

The young man should have chosen a piece that he can play. Mr. Azabagic seems to accept any student with any piece; ideally, he should choose students who can perform at a professional level.

If this is a masterclass then I suspect this kid has another teacher. That teacher should not let his students play pieces out of their reach, he is just ruining their technique.

I think that you are right, most of these masterclasses aren't with his personal students. However, there are some individuals who have been recorded quite regularly, I believe this are his own students.

+review collector I think +Joel Salazar was referring to the student's own, personal private teacher (not Denis). The point is that the student played a piece a little out of his grasp.

yes, he should has to do more Carcassi, M. Guiliani, Aguado or F.Sor studies before tackling this Austria .

This student would do fine by simply dissecting the piece, add hurdles/difficulties, and focus on each section for a few days/weeks/months..... Remove the hurdles and find the musical passages simple/-er. By adopting Denis' process of isolation, he is on his way.
@kabalder
@kabalder Жыл бұрын
@@williambarabanitz3858 Yeah, exactly. From my own experience, when I played saxophone - if I always only played pieces "within my reach", I would have been stuck on that level forever. My teacher gave me difficult things, and taught me to understand my limitations and why I couldn't express what I wanted with the piece. So I could practice, and find a method to achieve what I wanted. That was the most valuable lesson I ever learned, and it's helped me a lot when I picked up the guitar for "fun" later in life (and in other fields). Because literally all good musicians I know have learned to run before they walked, basically, and not doing it "correctly". But what's happened is they have vividly realized that their technique wasn't good enough, and then gone back to the basics with a clear motivation. Instead of being forced to trudge through the astonishing bore of "going through the movements", before then magically emerging, in the most efficient way(tm) on the other side as a virtuoso. No musician I've heard play - I'm willing to be there was never a single one - worth more than a midi-playback from a keyboard have been produced (choosing my word on purpose here) with that method.

denis is correct. this kid has a lack of right hand techniques. He begun to start studying too much difficult piece which is not advisable for a beginner
