For someone who has never really liked you Wayne - albeit from afar, not without a touch of jealousy and with little real knowledge of you as a man - I must say that this interview really made me think. Who of us haven't made a mistake that they regret or wish they could take back? Who of us don't wish we hadn't done things or done things differently in our past? It must have been incredibly hard discussing 'that moment' with your old mentor and for that I admire you. Good luck with this new endeavour mate.

We north supporters will forever be grateful for the wonderful joy that not only these 2 men but the whole team of that era gave us, the excitment and the pride we felt made us all stand taller and we wanted to talk footy, it not only gave us joy beyond belief , it made us live for footy. So many players were outstanding and most gave their all. Wayne i know you are serious about that being your greatest regret in life, and im sure it will remain that way, but as dennis said mate, you need to look down the barrel and say the words to stevo and us fans that you are sorry, not regret, there is a difference mate , a huge difference, in life people can be forgiven when one is truly sorry for their actions, but no one can get forgivness for a regret. People can regret they played the pokies, or gambled to much on a race and lost, but being sorry and asking forgiveness is what is needed, and i think that is what dennis alluded to. I will allways to this day defend you as the greatest player ive ever seen, with blighty a close second, but sorry is needed dude, dont make that another regret in your life ok. I wish you every success and thanks for the memories ( excuding the heartache ) and believe me when i say it hurt like hell to every blue and white on earth at the time, it was far bigger than just a f#$k believe me.

That was a great interview & great to hear Denis and Duck talk about Old times the good and not so good. I'd like to see Carey come back to North in the future as a forward skills coach for Charlie Comben . Looking at Comben I like the way he attacks the footy going for his marks and he even looks a bit like a young Carey. If he ends up being half the player Wayne Carey was North would have a winner as a future key forward
@WayneCareyTruthHurts Жыл бұрын
fair call, where do you see north finishing this year?
@andrewandy137 Жыл бұрын
@@WayneCareyTruthHurts I think they could finish as high as 14th-15th. They lack a bit of confidence and experience at the moment but I think they are capable of pinching a few more wins between now and end of the season. Usually in the second half of the season there is always upsets with lower teams getting unexpected wins . If they get 6 wins that would be a good result. I think they would have had won against Carlton on Good Friday had Ben McKay and Griffin Logue played in that game. McKay and Curnow for Carlton were the difference in that game kicking 10 goals between them. Logue has got a pretty good record against Curnow when he lined up on him as a Dockers player.

@@WayneCareyTruthHurts I thought North were very disappointing against Port Adelaide unfortunately on the weekend. I really thought they could have caused an upset in Tassie when Port were missing Charlie Dixon, Todd Marshall, & Darcy Byrne Jones. At the moment they have lost their confidence by losing 7 in a row after a fairly promising first 4 weeks.Alistair Clarkson is doing it a bit tough having one hand tied behind his back coaching while the Hawthorn scandal drags out. I still believe the Kangas can cause some upset wins in the second half of the season they just need a bit of luck and play 4 quarters of competitive footy. I believe any team that is rebuilding from the bottom up needs to aim to get a few wins and some upsets in a season regardless of how far behind they are in development phase to teams in the Top 4 and pushing for the top 8

We all want to hear from former players and getting some insight about who they are and about decisions made in the footy world that people don't know about. That includes selections, positions, fights etc... Views on opposition players. What went down on the ground. That's what people want to listen about. We don't want people trying to be comedians. Keep it fresh and get lots of guests. It doesn't have to be footballers always.

I was very young when Carey was playing and had heard the hype living in WA not understanding it. Then I saw him play a game in the wet. Noone on the ground could hold onto the ball or kick it and it was a mess. Except for Carey who played like it was a nice sunny afternoon. Then I realised

I hated North, hated them because they were everything I wished my team was. Jealousy is a real thing and only now as I am older and thanks to KZbin I can actually sit and watch the way you took games apart and just giggle and enjoy how good you were Duck and how good North were. I watched a night game a while back North v Hawthorn (Duck v Chief more to the point) and I throughly enjoyed it. I love footy now, but there’s nothing like a game where 2 key forwards at each end demand the footy and carry their respective teams and supporters on their backs.

Wow I can't believe you're finally doing a podcast. This has come full circle for me following North as a 10 year old with Carey as my hero. Like most of the North supporters I felt betrayed over the Anthony Stevens saga and the club has never found success since. You were lucky that Laidley was the leader for that 2003 team because I feel like every North player should have targeted you in that game but instead the whole team became wimpy and you had free rein to kick goals and poke your tongue out. It was all left to Archer & Stevo with some light shoving from Colbert who even shook your hand after the biggest betrayal you could commit at a footy club. Justice did not prevail and you even got a lifeline at the Crows who welcomed you with open arms. Round 6, 2003 was the most embarrassing night for North Melbourne, a bunch of wimps who didn't stick up for a legend in Anthony Stevens. Poor Stevo has become like Billy Brownless, a gutless simp who has a beer with you and even allows you to argue with him. I doubt you would allow that to happen Duck, if someone banged your wife I'm pretty sure you would seek revenge forever and especially on the field where you were extremely tough. Never the less my memories of 1993 to 2001 are great and it was the best era of football that will never be replicated.

And just exactly what would you have liked to occur, mate? Nobody was bad/tough enough to intimidate Wayne Carey, simple. You saw him take on the entire Essendon backline, in numerous scuffles. I feel the exact same pain, as you. However, bagging Leigh Colbert is not cool. He bled for the NMFC. Look at Darcy Moore nowadays. He's a bloody tough star, but he's not your in your face enforcer. Seeking revenge doesn't always work out. Look at the recent Freo v WB match, where Rory Lobb was targeted. How did that go? Goals were being kicked, whilst 6 Freo defenders worried about Lobb. It did stuff all, and Freo got pumped. Different circumstances, but there's still a game of footy to be won. Pinning the lack of success and/or Premierships to Carey's departure is absurd, in my opinion. It's not like the club hasn't made and/or won finals, in that time. Consecutive Prelims in 14 + 15, then 9-0 start in 2016. It's been downhill since, due to inept backroom operators.

@@fosjam6421 I explained it but never said go outside the rules, although a few errand coathangers, bumps or just general intimidation would have been great. They did more of it in round 1 the next year but it was too late. - yes he was legendary for standing up to Barnard, Wallis, Wellman etc, some great games against Essendon. - Colbert is a gun, I'm saying that I wouldn't have shaken Carey's hand, at least the rest of the team didn't do that. Try and be objective on each point, no one questioned Colbert's career. - Watt & Brown were big dudes and yeah the other guys weren't fighting types, but a stand had to be made. - Lobb totally different compared to the biggest story of 2002 that carried over to the next season. - North went from 7 straight prelims and premierships to mostly outside of the 8 since 2000. - The finals you mentioned North finished 6th & 8th and had some good finals but not really a stable contender for the flag.

Wayne you may not believe this, but you can save the club once again, now dont get a big head, but if you were to put your hat in to coach the roos, i would bet my left nacker it would generate 20,000 plus in membership, and when success follows and it will, under your leadership, then not only would people let the past settle , but again would your loyalties to the club be justified and your contributions be fully recognised not only at the club but also the afl would have no choice but to elevate you to where you belong, at the very top. The longer you put it off, the more the club bleeds. Get in their and redeem yourself duck, be the king carey that you once were. The club needs you more than ever. My father died in 2015 and was buried in a casket painted in total of the nothmelbourne football club emblem and colors.

Van Paul everyone makes mistakes in life and sometimes people do things beyond mistakes.But remember that Unforgiveness & hate is like a cancer. Id like to see Stevens & Carey & Archer become friends again later in life. Maybe they won't become best friends but if a friendship between them and Archer can happen at a later stage in life It would be a positive thing.All those North footballers are part of North Melbourne folklore,they are premiership brothers in football terms

Wayne trying to rewrite history 😄 You didn't beat the Bombers twice in 93, only once in R15. Surely Denis biggest regret was berating Schwass & Archer after the 97 prelim. The same game that Stevo started yelling at Daniltchenko in front of the St Kilda players.
