Nadals mental block, the one handed backhand, add Left to the combination now, this guy looks promising for tennis
@_MrAvocado_7 жыл бұрын
Yes, Nadal and his legendary "metal block" against one handed backhand players: Nadal h2h vs Gasquet 14 - 0, 16 - 3 vs Wawrinka, 23-14 vs Federer, 15 -1 vs Almagro, 14 - 1 VS kohlschreiber, 9 - 4 vs Lopez, 8 - 1 vs Dimitrov. Nadal has been the destroyer of one-handed backhands (left or right) over his career. So, my friend, you're talking absolute rot I'm afraid.
@albmesair7 жыл бұрын
MrAvocado you must be real fun at parties, look back at those matches and see how he struggled against these players more than the orthodox ones, statistics portray wrong info sometimes, its like saying Nadal has 10 GS on Roland Garros, he is the GOAT, look at G.Muller's match at Wimbledon who is a lefty. Read my comment properly. I said add left in the mix. I am a Nadal fan. I am guessing you are as well. Peace bro. Peace.
@TheUltimatesonicfan17 жыл бұрын
Rafa handles lefties no problems. He also handles one handers better than anyone on tour. His issue with Muller was the serve on grass (he still lost 13-15 in the 5th so it wasn't a blowout), and Shapovalov was the big groundstrokes. Denis was hitting on average 10 mph harder here than he was against Delpo the round before. When it comes to lefties his losses come from them going for broke (i.e Verdasco AO 2016, Klizan in Bejiing, this match etc.)

I watched the Nadal press conference. He sort of congratulated Denis, but yet he said the reason he lost was because "he made too many mistakes" and "didn't play well". Well, isn't that the reason people lose tennis matches anyway, when you don't play as well as your opponent. He just flat out lost because Shapovalov played better that day. End of story.

Could it be that Nadal can't handle lefties, Gilles Muller is a lefty and now Shapovalov?
@ntnnot7 жыл бұрын
Could be part of it. Majority of players probably have a better forehand and Nadal's heavy cross-court forehand has been effective in applying pressure to the backhand side. Some exceptions come to mind like Gasquet, Wawrinka, (maybe Djokovic). Probably also accustomed to play against righties. As should be Shapovalov also though. But also to note is that grass is Müller's best surface.
@Iseejigs7 жыл бұрын
Also that Denis is one of the top upcoming players and developing ahead of schedule.
@Tesla_Death_Ray7 жыл бұрын
He's not used to having to actually think during points. With another lefty the natural match up advantage is gone and there is no "hurr durr me spin cross court you backhand miss soon durr hurr" autopilot to rely on.

@supercritic1007 жыл бұрын
He said denis played better too. Or do you hear only what you want to hear? It is indeed a fact that he played badly anyway.
@plozikou7 жыл бұрын
Nadal was very frustrated because he saw the table open to become # 1 again. But he met a young wolf more hungry than he and who actually played better. Unfortunately Nadal is a bad loser.
@pedrotortosa11237 жыл бұрын
Nadal has never been a bad loser, nobody can say that. He is human though and the frustration to loose against an 18 year old guy when he had real chances of becoming number 1 again is high. He has said nothing against Dennis or the crowd and it is true that he has played against a player with low ranking
@supercritic1007 жыл бұрын
Ok i was wrong then. Nadal played his BEST and lost to Denis who also played his best. Now, does that make sense to you? In press conferences, it is appreciated when players say how they genuinely feel. If he can only talk about his opponent in his press conference and not evaluate his own performance, whats the point?
@pedrotortosa11237 жыл бұрын
Laoya puka he says he played bad and that is absolutely true if number 2 is playing against number 144 in the ranking, that's all, is an objective thing that Rafa played a bad match and Dennis very well supported by the crowd, Rafa is explaining things that are facts and he is very frustrated and explains it but that doesn't mean he is a bad looser, he would be a bad looser if he blamed others for his mistakes but he is not doing that
@andrewdelacruz20647 жыл бұрын
There has never been an 18 year old who plays like Shapovalov since a young Roger Federer first emerged into the tennis scene some 15-16 years ago. Should Federer go on to meet the Canadian in the final, he will be exactly double the youngster's age. Perhaps it was the incident where the Shapovalav accidentally hit the umpire in the eye which prove to be the turning point in his young career. He has since apologized for his horror show and has promised to never allow that to happen again. And after that, he seem to grow from strength to strength. Just look at his statistics, after beating world no 31 Del Potro, he went on to beat No 2 Nadal and then No 42 Mannarino. And if Shapovalav goes on to win the tournament, he will rise from 143 to top 30 in the world rankings. Siimply amazing.
