Michael Fisher ehhh, dragons are just damage mostly, pixies have very gamebreaking magic potential, without specifically non-magic AOE damage they can take multiple rounds to take down, and in those rounds they can pick a party apart unless said party is nearly god status.

Ripley distributed a few designs of guns across the world and it has become more common in the following years. Percy and Ripley are the only ones that would benefit from others not knowing about their toys.

@@Bavio A rescue mission which would have inevitably required them to attempt to infiltrate a camp filled with even more pixies, and potentially more magical enhancements from proximity to the sigil. And even if they somehow managed to successfully rescue grog and got out of the camp, the pixies would probably just put up the barrier again, except this time they would come even more prepared and less forgiving. Frankly unless they were able to produce something of interest to the pixies, battle was inevitable. Doing it before they took grog away simply gave them a better chance at success.

It's worth mentioning that there was a path they could have taken, if they were more careful about how they handled things. Namely trying to talk with pixies before casting spells at them for passage through the barrier. If the pixies attacked them anyway, then yeah. I'd say that's kind of on the DM. But in this case, they kind of brought it on themselves. Which isn't to criticize them as players. But their characters are very bad at planning.

This is why casinos make money; most people that have no grasp of probability. Every roll of a d20 has a 5% chance of being the same as the last roll. It's not that amazing to roll the same twice. Double rolls are very common, but nobody bats an eye unless it's 2x1 or 2x20. Humans math bad.

@Anrael Vax asked him last episode and again at the beginning of this one. Unless they had some compelling reason to overcome his recalcitrance he wasn't likely to talk. I don't believe that Matt intended a reason per se and that it was just a little personality quirk. Sometimes you just leave space in a PC or NPC and if it becomes story relevant you improvise the answer. It also allows you time to come up with something or have inspiration strike. While I agree with the assessment of it being personal, and quite frankly he said as much, that doesn't mean that Matt had decided what it was exactly.

i know this is an older comment, but remember Matt told VM through the nymph that creatures in the fey wild shouldnt be trusted, so when their guide told them to avoid the music, they were naturally already distrusting of his advice. I suspect Matt did this on purpose so that we would get some interesting hurtles and encounters along the way to the cancerous tree. That, and vox machina tend to be a bunch of chaotic assholes who do whatever anyways. lol

Having neutral-to-the-party npc groups try to get them to take out another "evil" npc group leaves a lot of thinking and decision making to the players, and I think that makes for very healthy moments in campaigns, especially if theres a way to succeed even if the best option isnt chosen.

It would have been both and unnecessary risk and a waste of time to run in and grab them, and a waste of a spell to pull them out from a safe distance. Sam was supposed to take well over 60 damage most likely had he not rolled 2 Nat 20s meaning those two, already nearly dead guys, who likely autofailed took full damage. I'd also assume that the camp ending it's spell probably meant they were dead

So I have a theory as to why this particular campaign has the best possible outcome. Ok, so first of all I have to say that Matt is an absolute wizard when it comes to giving subtlety to his characters or I guess I should say races. So obviously the Lycan appear as these ruthless bestial hunting machines who should be put down. Even Scanlan and Grog wanted to take them out, but personally I would have been ten times more upset if that's the route VM took. Yes they threatened VM but they never actually laid a finger on them. Even after the moment of anger at being betrays. More than that though, the leader got a ton of my respect when he welcomed VM to go and learn about the Pixies and their true nature on their own, that spoke volumes. I would have a hard time seeing even a group of good guys telling someone they want to ally with to go hear their enemy's side of things.

I agree to an extent. The Lycans certainly displayed their honorable side. The issue is the Lycan nature. They're cursed and will hunt and consume and spread their curse. Their range was contained to the Moonbrush. Now they are free. What will become of the Feywild now? It's entirely possible, depending on what the Lycans do, that VM will be viewed as an ally of evil in the Feywild.

It's a very Bioware/CD Project RED game moment really. This feels like something you'd find in one of their RPGs, there are choices and consequences. VM didn't want to be a part of this conflict and tried to find a way out, was it the best move? That's the debated part. The outcome will have consequences, as would the other outcome if they sided with the pixies and fought the Lycans (assuming they could survive such a conflict). I watched this on Thursday and when it was done I did have to think, when all was said and done I think I do agree this was the...better outcome of the campaign. Was it the best? No. But it could have gone even worse. Who knows what the pixies would do, yes the Lycans will spread but...the die has been cast. I knew from the moment the Pixies were going to take Grog that VM would have no choice but to go into conflict, they're not the type to sacrifice their friend. This was honestly a good story moment, it serves as another reminder to VM that you can't always have it both ways. Sometimes you got to make a bad decision when there are nothing but bad decisions. Those are just my thoughts on it anyway, my personal take, everyone has their own.

I disagree because there is not enough information yet to reach that conclusion. You appear to be basing it off old tropes. If they wanted to spread their curse, they could have attacked the party. They did not. And according to the MM, werewolves, which made up the majority of the group they faced, are chaotic evil. Chaotic evil doesn't care the slighest bit about concepts like honor. Werebears are neutral good, the only good-aligned lycanthrope, and don't WANT to spread their lycanthropy. Weretigers are neutral. If Matt was playing it all according to standard tropes and the MM, the werewolves would be the only lycanthropes of that group and already have attacked the party because they are basically psychotic and want to spread their curse. Obviously he is not. Now this could be just because he wanted to change the way they are as a monster type or it could be because it is another plane of existence and he doesn't feel like he has to apply those same rules.

+Doken Boken Yeah, this is a big worry I have too. Maybe Matt's version on Lycan wouldn't be necessarily as cursed or needing to spread like that. IDK I agree it's a big concern.

I'm torn about this as well, but I feel like the lycanthropes are actually evil, because when they first met VM, one of them referred to Scanlan as a "tasty treat", also at the end you hear the leader say "go spread my brethren". In my opinion they never should have cast that spell on the pixie Village. causing the pixies to over react. VM was put into a tough situation with the leader of the Pixies trying to keep grog, but I too think they were just paranoid with the fear that the curse would spread since they looked over all members of VM. Grog was supposedly cut, which I thought Laura healed it earlier, unless they were saying that Grog was cut from running into the barrier. that part confused me. I also agree that the werewolves seemed honorable, but I feel like they had no other option but to seek outside help, why? Because in the pixie Village there were statues of other werewolves in their garden, seemingly the werewolves could not best the Pixies, so the Pixies were just the prison guards.

I'm surprised none of them even seemed to think of it. Maybe they all assumed that NPCs wouldn't get death saving throws. Grasping Vine could have pulled them out some, and healing word has range. Or Scanlan could have just grabbed Vax with Bigby's Hand, and pulled him away to where Keyleth could Greater Resto him (if needed) out of range of being charmed herself. Or just the Forceful Hand effect could push him out without actually grappling and crushing him. (roll20.net/compendium/dnd5e/Arcane%20Hand ). It lasts 1 minute, so they could have pushed the other dancers out, too, and gained an ally with the lycans.
