Denmark's 25th Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen proclaims that Denmark is not a socialist economy, but a "market economy".
Right-wing political figures such as Ben Shapiro have used this proclamation to disregard the successes of "socialism" that are attributed to Denmark.

It depends on what do you mean by "socialist". At the beginning of the talk Rasmussen said "PLANNED socialist economy". No modern socialists, or rather no modern socialists other than tankies, suggests PLANNED economy as a viable option. Most contemporary socialists I'm aware of are advocating for government control on key industries, where the risk of perverse incentives is high, such as healthcare, and education, just like in Denmark, as well as strong unions, just like in Denmark, worker co-ops, and strong welfare state, just like in Denmark. American conservatives are very good on not understanding that. They often goes "first I will not be able to get a second heart attack after seeing my hospital bill, don't have to be in debt to finish college, and have what to eat an where to sleep when I don't have a job, and next thing I know, I'll be in a gulag", and that's just wrong.

@@5drtfygunjm The only way his policies work is if the middle class pays 40% of the taxes, taxing the rich ain't gonna do shit, the rich have huge teams of accountants, lawyers, and know all the loopholes to evade taxes, the middle class don't have that luxury. You Social Democrats fail to understand that rich people don't like being taxed, they worked hard to make all that money, you don't become rich by sitting on your ass on the sofa in your mom's basement, you actually have to create value, work 80 hour weeks, take a huge financial risk to start a business, give it your all, make sure the business stays alive, because 50% of business fail within the first 5 years, which incurs a huge financial loss on the person who was running that business. The rich people are the entrepreneurs, they are the ones who create jobs, the place you work at exists because somebody took a financial risk to start that business, work hard to sustain it, make sure it profits, after which he or she is able to hire people like you. France tried a wealth tax and guess what happened, thousands of millionaires left, taking their businesses and jobs elsewhere, which left hundreds of thousands of people unemployed, and Government lost money because middle class don't even account for that much of the tax revenue. The top 10% of earners pay 70% of the income tax, the bottom 90% of the population only account for 30% of the tax revenue. Biden wants to do free healthcare, free education, welfare, even universal basic income, etc, who the heck is going to provide money to support all these programs? The only reason countries like Canada, Denmark, or Nordic countries have free healthcare and education is because the middle class over their pay 40% or more in income taxes. The Businesses still get huge tax cuts in those countries. Stop falling for all these feel good policies, when most of you Bernie Sanders supporters don't even understand basic economics.

Last I checked, I haven't seen any cooperative business revolutionize any industry. Most of the innovation has come from private entities. And the role of the CEO is to manage the operations and resources of a Company, I feel pity for the Business degree you paid because you don't understand jackshit about how a business works. Steve Jobs was the CEO of Apple, but he didn't understand shit about building a computer, writing software, creating circuit boards, what capacitor or resistor was, managing network and datacenter. Tim Cook, the current CEO of Apple, same thing, Sundar Pichai, current CEO of Google, he doesn't know what data structures and algorithms are implemented in the Google Spider Crawler Algorithm. For a person boasting about Economic and Business degrees, you sure are a moron who doesn't know shit I have nothing against Cooperative business, but get out here with your stupid socialist arguments. Is it because they want business owners to pay just enough that their workers don't starve to death, or it's because wages are negotiated by unions there? Are you from there? And your last statement is laughably wrong. Is Singapore like Ethiopia? Germany didn't have a minimum wage until recently. Was it like Ethiopia? And if the government needs to set the price for labor, then why shouldn't it also set the price for food? After all, what good is a minimum wage if the price of food is really high? @@Wilson-xd4zq "The employer isn't "inherently more powerful than the individual worker."/.../ A worker with a lot of skills in an in-demand field is the one with negotiating power." Yes, all five of them. The overwhelming majority of individual workers are inherently less powerful than their employers, and nobody is asking the government to raise the minimum wage for NBA players. "Not all wages in Sweden are "negotiated by unions" because not everyone in Sweden is in a union." Yes, just almost 70% of them. Let's not pretend that it has no impact on the rest. "Germany didn't have a minimum wage until recently." That's because unions did collective bargaining for wages in Germany. "And if the government needs to set the price for labour, then why shouldn't it also set the price for food?" The government sets prices all the time. It's usually for telecommunications and other natural monopolies. "After all, what good is a minimum wage if the price of food is really high?" The government does that too. Only in extreme cases, because food prices tend not to be so high, that raising the minimum wage wouldn't cut it. "And if a minimum wage doesn't cause inflation or unemployment, why not just set it at $100 an hour? After all, there are no adverse consequences, right?" I don't say that it has no impact on inflation whatsoever, just that it's negligible. 0.036, to be precise, according to this study: research.upjohn.org/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?referer=&httpsredir=1&article=1278&context=up_workingpapers So if the minimum wage is raised by 10% it will cause 0.36% inflation. I don't know about you, but I'd be happy to get a 10% higher wage, even if everything becomes 0.36% more expensive. This is an adverse consequence I can live with.

I actually can't tell if the distinction ends up being fundamentally real, but his remarks are fascinating. This Denmark leader is finding the difficulty of where to draw the line on disincentives for work. An issue, for example, is that you have to incentivize a doctor by letting him make enough money to make him happy with all the study and work he put in and make him happy with social recognition of his God-given intelligence and dexterity; he has to be valued in the market more than the burger-flipper to incentivize life-saving medical work, but in what amount? Net $350/hour dr vs $15/hour burger flipper? Would net $75/hr dr vs $20/hour burger flipper still work? I say "net" because the market may set the wage, but the government sets the confiscation through taxes. So the wage means nothing until you also know the tax. How about social value on praiseworthy behavior? Maybe the burger flipper is less stressed and is better at kindness than the dr making sure his hands are rested and steady for the incision and, based on this, the burger flipper is happy with little money and high popularity or self-esteem or the prospect of one day being a doctor or burger magnate. If you get the calculation wrong, the dr. will do burgers instead or move to a country where he's more valued. Members of the early church gave out of their surplus ability(extra property) to others in surplus need (insufficient food). With the Spirit of God in them, they could do this with the joy of pleasing God and/or trust in power to see it to a beautiful end. No atheist or Christian government can do this, because the calculations are too many and enforcement too expensive to accomplish centrally. Humans are also naturally selfish and ignorant, but also naturally high-minded (God has given each a conscience). Jesus observed, when his disciples slept instead of watching and praying while He suffered the agony of impending humiliation, derision, and crucifixion that "the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak". His disciples wanted to pray for Him, which is why they were with Him, but their bodies needed rest and they preferred to sleep, against the feelings in their hearts. God would later give them an amazing vitality (His Spirit). God is omnipotent and omniscient, so for Him, it's nothing to move among His people. It's internally motivated and sustained. Nevertheless, the Denmark model can be instructive, both on consensual high taxes and consensual hard work, but how can any government regulate (i.e. dictate) the levels; it is VERY tricky. Socialists degenerate into murder, even genocide. Communism does, and evidently must, deny God or any outside normative source aside from the government; for them, socialism is a tool to reach the unattainable utopian end of economic equality. Good government, however, must protect physical freedom (which includes each person marketing her/his labor/time and other resources) and soul or spirit freedom (which includes loving or hating God (or claiming that there is no God and that meaning is otherwise found)). U.S. founders understood, and at least one SAID, our system depends on a moral and religious people. I suspect all systems do, however.

'Hillary was asked about being a liberal. She said I am not liberal I am progressive. They intentionally confused the two. What I have been seeing is liberals voting conservative because they can't go along with this trans nonsense especially forcing it on child. It took me a while to see the difference. Then recently the Nevada legisture, both liberal and conservative voted 324 to 74 approximately to condemn the horrors of Socialism. The votes against were all the progressives. It was progressives AND the socialist party of Nevada that condemned the vote. This was very telling for me when I put all of these events together. Now Hilary and Obamas mentor was Saul Alinski an avowed communist. Anyone who would laugh at that should read Rules for Radicals. Even her calling opposition deplorables is based on propaganda instructions found in the book. I have read a great deal of Marx, Lenin, and Stalin to name a few. Most of my life and by the writings of these communist, socialism and communism were used interchangeably. So you think that certain social safety net programs is the gateway to economic communism? That's like saying that having a merit-based immigration system is a gateway to ethno nationalist fascism. There are countries that have a two-tier universal healthcare system aka a public health insurance program and private health insurance coexisting ) like we see in Australia and Singapore. And we all know those two countries are fairly capitalist. Edit : by the way a term like universal healthcare / universal health coverage means that a person can go to whatever doctor / physician of their choice without the financial burden aka not having the chance of going to medical debt. Not to mention there would not be any in network out of network clause.

@25taylorkw
@25taylorkw 2 жыл бұрын
Firstly the US has never had a stronger social safety-net than other first-world countries around the world, and yet the workers wages in the US has been stagnating, US wages have been due to a combination of these three things like workers wages not being tied to productivity anymore, the monopolization of companies due to lack of enforcing antitrust laws ( in which a company can lowball the worker when it comes to pay ), and the decrease of worker unions due to union-busting being allowed, as of right now there's no legit economic research that says having a strong social safety net would be the causation of having lower wages, Secondly it would be necessary to have a form of a strong social safety net, a strong social safety net for only people in poverty would be having a guaranteed livable income program ( that's tied to inflation and cost of living ) that would be a replacement of the majority of US welfare programs, but the people in poverty would have to have a job in order receive the monthly income, then a social safety net for everyone would be a form of universal healthcare ( specifically a single-payer health insurance form of universal healthcare similar to Taiwan that would cover at least 75% of basic health care needs for all citizens ), of course the requirements for getting covered by this universal healthcare system would be being a legal citizen of that country that pays taxes.

It should be noted that Scandinavian countries have smaller populations than the US and can easily have their big welfare states. Sweden used to be a socialist country in the 70s until they ran out of money and had to act quickly to reinstitute capitalism to make money again. What does population have to do with the systems / programs be funded through taxes, regardless of the population if a person is a citizen of a country with also requiring to pay taxes then the government would have more tax revenue to invest in the social safety net programs like social security, a single-payer health insurance form of universal healthcare, public colleges being tuition-free, and other social safety net programs, not to mention there's also a GDP that they generate tax money from private businesses that can be used as tax revenue, Also every other first-world country has taxes and GDP they fund their own militaries with also having taxes and GDP to fund their strong social safety net, that's just a talking point from neoconservatives ( and neoliberals to a certain extent ) who try to discredit having a strong social safety net for the citizens because it goes against the agenda of their corporate interests ( corporate interests being wall street, the for-profit health insurance industry, the oil companies, the pharmaceutical companies, the for-profit prison industry, and the military industrial complex ), nobody should follow the corporate agenda from whatever political commentator that's partnered with The Blaze, The Daily Wire, or PragerU ( political networks that are funded by the Koch brothers, oil billionaires or both ).

The answer is that it is not a socialist country because it does not run with a system of public ownership. The Nordic Model has a capitalist base but with more social policies and regulations than the US one. But the core is still capitalist, which is why Denmark routinely ranks high on Forbes best countries for business. So essentially, the wealth is created via a capitalist system, but then partially re-invested in society, thus promoting social mobility and a high average standard of life. There should be no romance with socialism nor with capitalism. One should just as much say no to unregulated capitalism, where all the wealth is held in silos by the top 1% while much of the rest of the country is in poverty.

I think the only reason that they are able to manage all these budget surpluses and welfare systems is because high taxes and because the US is kinda helping the nordic countries subsidize their defence spending (These countries never had to pay that much in defence,just look at the equipment they are using, a lot of it comes from the states eg.The F16s,35s,rockets,etc., Even companies like SAAB(Gripen E) ar using GE engines.If they were to get there defence industry from scratch like in the US,they won't be able to maintain all these surpluses.I think there's a reason they won't hike up defence spending is because they know if they get involved in some shit,daddy America will be there for the win.)

European Union / NATO acts as a unified military among all European countries. Each country pays 2% of their gpd which is an agreement with the USA. In addition, the total GDP in Europe is 20 trillion which is pretty much the same as the usa. We could easily find that money ourselves. But the US has economic interests in retaining the power as they can lose more money by losing Europe to China or Russia Europe is admittedly not militarily oriented but on the other hand they have economic power over Asia and the Middle East which means that Europe can harm them economically through sanctions. The United States is not interested in losing it, so the money the United States spends on the military is nothing compared to what they will get back The United States spends 686billion on the military. Europe spends 186billion. The United States pay 500Billion more than Europe. If you divide that number by the 47 European countries, you get 10billion. That is absolutly nothing all the European countries are able to pay that with no problems The welfare system works just fine with or without the military from USA....my calculation proves that. The funny thing is USA pay alot more for healthcare than Europe... Dont take my words for it you can find all the numbers on Google Dont get me wrong we appriciate everything that USA does its a fantastic nation with lovely people :)

The label is irrelevant, capitalist, market eco promo, welfare state, social market economy, Democratic socialism, social democracy. Sanders’ platform mimics the policy actions of Denmark. He is for universal healthcare, universal ‘preK-university’ education, for a strong safety net, increased time off, and labour protections. Whether he or anyone else attaches one label or other, it doesn’t matter, you can’t use the fact bernie calls it Democratic Socialism, in contrast to the PM of Denmark, as a reason. At the end (which I discovered only several months later while reading the accusation, because they initially didn't even inform me about their accusation) the Crown's police invented one whole scene as if it was me the one whom attacked the police (which I didn't at all), and so I have to go to the court some day in the future for accusation about something which I didn't do but I can not prove it because there were no witnesses in my home, and the judge and even my lawyer usually trusts to the police in nice uniforms. That is the main difference from Nordic countries to other European ones such as France or Greece.

@Wade when you say, the government forcibly takes your money, you mean, you hate paying tax in other words, yet this is done before you get paid, you don't see it physically come out, not in the UK of course.

@Wade why don't you work, so your annual income is less than what you have pay in tax, e.g if it is 12,000 then work till you only have 11,990 then you don't pay tax. You say you want a flat tax, but describe tax as forcibly taking your money.

@Wade In the UK, you only pay income tax, if you earn a certain amount a year, so anything under that, they can't tax you, so therefore your not violating the law. Which point do you mean.

Or maybe you can grab a dictionary and read the definition of socialism: Any of various theories or systems of social organization in which the means of producing and distributing goods is owned collectively or by a centralized government that often plans and controls the economy. Nordic countries are, as said by the man, market economies that finance those public services. They are not socialists, get over it.

This video is ridiculous. Of course you pay for everything. It's call mega-high personal tax (40%) and even higher double taxes. If you start a business you pay 60% tax. So time to get real Lars Løkke.

Denmark is definitely socialist. Notice PM Rasmussen never once said that it wasn’t. He said that the economic model is not.

Denmark is definitely not a socialist economy, it is a market economy. Better re-watch that video 🤪

Socialism is an economic system. If the economic system isn't socialist, it's not a socialist country. Denmark doesn't have a socialist economy, therefore it isn't socialist. Its that simple.
