I have been running the table I made in the back of mine for a year now and love it. I just used some 19mm plywood and some large hinges. I ended up putting some timber on the inside of the door to screw into and clamp the hinges to the plastic. Just using some old hat strings to hold the table up at either end and a latch to hold it up when not in use. I also added a bit of stainless to the table surface.

I definitely want ss on the top, but I'm not sure if I can make one only it of ss or if I need a backing, like timber. I played with some stuff at Bunnings but none of it was what I was after. Do you think you could have gotten away with lighter ply?
@aj_924 жыл бұрын
If you want to keep it relatively stock and not drill into the plastic too much, you can remove that plastic bar you've got the cups and plates sitting on, make a little table that fits the cavity and fix everything to the bottom of the folding table? That way you can buy little metal spring push tabs and space them to fit your plates for easy storage rather than the bungee cords
@DENMONKEY4 жыл бұрын
the top section of that door where the bar is, actually comes out. I might have alook at removing it and see what options I have there. cheers for the input Aidan

i use a bcf camping bag for dishes etc as it keeps them clean and doesn't take much space will be making table for back door later at the moment keep jumper leads and emergency triangle in the slots but might change to condiments when table made but good luck on your design less weight on back door is better

Thanks David, yes weight is on my mind. those cups etc don't weight much at all, so I need to consider my materials carefully. fingers crossed it all works

Interesting to see your ideas. Great idea to put a light under the high brake light. I’m thinking about the small battery LED lights from Supercheap, usually in a bin near the counter. I’ve used the ball type for lighting around a camper trailer. Great lights and no wiring needed.
@garya66474 жыл бұрын
And if I glue a small piece of metal underneath the brake light then I can use the magnet on the light to mount it!
@DENMONKEY4 жыл бұрын
I've sussed those out. I think they're only about 5 bucks. I have these touch led strip lights got ages ago and need to use the for something.
@garya66474 жыл бұрын
Well I thought it was such a good idea that I’ve done it. Glued a 2cm washer to the brake light case and now can use the magnet on those cheap swivel led lights. Thanks for stimulating my brain cells!

Could you use rare earth magnets behind the plastic to hold the metal cutlery in place?

Bloody good question. I'll check. I'm not sure if the metal they are made of but I have a feeling it's not very magnetic. Plus I'd need to get the magnets from China and that could take months 😁

Hey Den Monkey i have a gen 3 nm and the space in rear door is huge this is were the rear seat head rests were meant to be stored, theres netting across the area and all sorts of straps, the head rests have long since dissappeared, maybe you could grab the gen 3 netting from wreckers or after market and secure all the gear, will rrry and email you a pic, the table ideal is really interesting seen them for jeeps and the like after market. Looking forward to the next video in this series.

thanks for the ideas Dave, in the 4th Gen, they seat heads were stored in under the floor in the same space where the seats folded into. Unfortunately that's pretty full up in there. I do love that area though. I've got a rough plan now after reading everything. I need to check a few mates set ups out for some specifics and source the right materials I need. I think this might go through a few versions before I'm done

Idea is good, i would however not cut the plastic part under the bowls, i would cover the whole door cover with a bungi cargo net. Then it could hold cloths, paper towels, and keep the plates in tact by fastening the net in the middle and other strategit places with self tapping screws to clamp the plates down tighter. Accessible from the top

Need some help..... I have 10 - 36 volt 225 watt solar panels. I want to buy batteries for it.. I like to buy the common 12 volt batteries.. Maybe 4 to 6 golf cart or solar batteries. Question: Can I buy a Mppt Regulator to convert the 36v solar panels to charge the 12v batteries? What would you do?
@DENMONKEY4 жыл бұрын
yes, you can but with so many panels, I couldn't point you to one big enough to handle that sort of current. It would also depend on how you wired up all those panels and what voltage is being sent to the controller. That size of set up is a bit outside of my comfort zone I'm afraid. Whilst all the basics are the same, I haven't set up something that big and couldn't give you any advice on brands or ideas on the challenges you will face in doing so. Check out some of the tiny home or off grid type channels. they should have the info you need

If you have watched my walk around videos you will of seen what I've done. Someone below said about cutting into the bottom to slot the plates into. I don't mind that idea. Personally I think the spots on the back doors of the Gen 3 & 4 is perfect for coffee, sugar, tea, cups etc etc. I keep my coffee cups, plates, bowls and cutlery in my draw. A set for 1 or 2 people takes up very little space. Interested to see what you do with the set up mate. If you are doing a drop down table make it adjustable so saucepans don't slide off the cooker etc. I've had it happen and my meal ended on the ground.
@DENMONKEY4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I like your full size table. I'm planning on using up the whole width , adding some fold up sides(wind blocks) and maybe slide out section from underneath. I don't know how realistic I'm being though. I want the table to be made of stainless but timber will be easier to work with. Lots of ideas but I need something I can actually make and not cost a fortune.
@MicksGarageDarts4 жыл бұрын
@@DENMONKEY I did think about a Stainless cover for the cutting side but after my Aunt painted the bottom side I wasn't going to do anything to cover it. If you are ok working with thinner timber I'm sure you could make a slide out section from the side. Another option could be a bit stored under the bed that clips side and has a leg for support. Maybe small bags bolted/stapled Under the table that can hang down with utensils for cooking.

G'Day mate - A few ideas - You could remove the entire black trim & custom make a carpeted MDF board, gives you a nice area to add all the bungees, shelves, cutouts etc. Continuing on with your ideas - Utensils: Grab a little pencil case/canvas pouch of some sort & screw it alongside the handle. Lights - On my setup I ran LED strip around the window perimeter, one amber (for the bugs) and one cool white. A head torch was still needed sometimes. I'll send you a link with some pics of my setup & some other ideas I've collected along the way. Heres an x-trail but worth a gander: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n2rXmWOElrSqrMU Cheers

Thanks turorit. I'll sure it out. That utensils set I put the pic of had it's own case. I haven't seen it in person but it might work like the case. Sing a board could work but id definitely have to cut away the panel. The to section is removable but the lower is all one part. The dual colour light is on the cards too to avoid bugs. Thanks for the input mate.
