I had this video as a teenager and it still amazes me almost 20 years later.

people forget that DC plays so many different styles, and that one solo that might pertain to what style he is playing wont be anything like another solo during another style, and it that versatility that makes him so damn great

@@leongreene3025 I don't hear it as four different time signatures. His feet are in 4/4, and I think of his snare in 4/4 too: he's just playing quintuplets for every half note. The right hand on the ride is just playing that three note grouping at varying speeds. Don't get me wrong though, I love it.

Around 3:45 and on I can manage so don’t give up the practicing. Just don’t practice it in front of people because it’s gonna sound like a mess to the untrained hear 😂

What makes Dennis such a great drummer is the way he can sit there and make the drums sing and sound musical. He's a great improviser and I've just always loved his style. It's his own and he doesn't go down the gospel chops route. He plays with passion and feel.

@dasglasperlenspiel1015 жыл бұрын
Wow! I'm not a fan of the styles of music that Chambers usually plays, but this is such a nice solo! His transitions between ideas flow so smoothly! The harder the idea is to play, the easier he makes it look, which is a form of mastery! And of course the dynamic range and expression of each rhythm, just great! At the end when he gets the quintuplets (lh) going against the marching band ostinato and jazz ride, SO slick (in a very nice way)! Great solo!

Neil Peart- greatest drummer!? I TRUELY don't think so. Jazz drumming; technical is more advanced than rock drumming. Putting Neil Peart with Dennis Chambers, or (billy Cobham), would be like what happened to Eric Clampton with Jimi.
@nuegai464211 жыл бұрын
Like how Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Carlos Sanata a whole list of other ones literally worship John McLaughlin. Jeff Beck and Sanata both admit they "worship" McLaughlin, Clapton has too big of an ego, but look back to the early Grahm Bond days for the real scoop... and Page? Page paid McLaughlin for lessons back in the 60's. Where do you think that whole 12 string came from? Comparing rock to jazz musically is like comparing single celled organisms to mammals in biology. Jazz can contain the whole of rock history within 1/2 a measure.
@i.musterman96610 жыл бұрын
Nue Gai that is true to some extent, musically speaking. rock, however, is not just about the aural aspect of music. some jazz musicians fail to see that simple fact over and over again
@hingadingadurgen14467 жыл бұрын
See here's the issue.... Peart COULD'VE done all this but he was about 4x more innovative, plus there's a difference between rock and prog....

I have no doubt. People usually mistake Dennis' armcrossings and arm-speed with the actual domain of the sticks. Concerning STICK-control strictly, I've never seen a better drumkit player than Buddy Rich. Every single/press/double/multiple/diddle/drag/flam roll happened exactly the way he intented them to be performed. With every lightning-fast accent put in a brilliant way as he produced his hyper fast rudimental combos. Pure excellence.
