I've always wondered what was in your record collection whenever I saw photos of it, so I'm really excited about the series. I used to go through the bands in the "thank you" lists on records and cd's to discover new bands and it feels like this is going to be a great discovery adventure. Thanks so much for taking the time to put it together!

Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death was about the 3rd cd I ever bought in about 1988. I remember for about 2years nothing I listened to compared with Dead Kennedys. Still love them to this day. Public Enemy were my first two, but Dead Kennedys sent me off on one of many tangents in my musical journey.

Hello there. Three records that totally changed my life is Fresh fruit with DK, Thou shalt not kill with Antidote and most of all MGE with The Damned. I still remember how the sun was shining in through the window when I first heard Love Song. Almost religious and I’ve been collecting records since that day in 1980. Cheers, Stefan/Existenz

Hi Dennis ;) I'm 23 years old and I play guitar, and, like you, I started with Metal. I discovered you with your album “Songs To Fan The Flames Of Discontent”. I was able to see you with INVSN at the Sonic in Lyon. It might have helped me at a time when I wasn't feeling very well and, suddenly, I have an older friend, the one who allowed me to discover you with Refused, he hits me on the shoulder, to show me Dennis who is enjoying the music with us in the pit. It's the first time I saw you in real life, and seeing you allowed me to realize that you were human XD For someone my age, you are an example and an inspiration :) Thank you very much to you and your friends for the live, and your humanity ;) I hope that I see you again live, and that my English will be a little more presentable next time XD (I almost forgot, I find the concept of your videos "extraordinary" and if you hadn't done it, I would probably have dreamed of it)

Great list, and Bowie is a fantastic one to have as your first record. Nice seeing Anthrax here too - they've pretty much always been my favourite of the big 4 (apart from when I had a short but intense Slayer phase =P ). I have a few life-changing albums (In Requiem by Paradise Lost, Feedbacker by Boris, Prometheus by Emperor, Eremita by Ihsahn, Last Rights by Skinny Puppy, etc), but I actually want to especially give a shout to A New Morning, Changing Weather. It was the first of your music that I've ever heard as I actually found Noise Conspiracy before I'd even heard of Refused, and it was an absolutely huge discovery for me. I was around 17, and I was beginning to study sociology, and learning about Marxism and all that stuff started to get me interested in politics and social theory. Around that time I happened to come across Capitalism Stole My Virginity, bought the album (as well as Survival Sickness) and that really pushed me over the edge into actually becoming more politically conscious and educating myself, and become active. The booklet/fold-out that the A New Morning CD came with hade a huge list of books that inspired you, and I always thought that was a super cool thing to include, and so you got me reading stuff like The Revolution of Everyday Life. The other side of that fold-out had this essay about capitalism, consumerism, and the commodification of art, and I'm not actually sure whether it was written by you or if it was just quoted from somewhere, but I actually ended up quoting it as a reference in my final sociology exam =P

Thanks to this video I discovered other bands and other albums to listen to that will surely give me more musically and culturally. I started listening to rock music around the age of 10, but one of the first artists who made me discover the blues and who wrote lyrics for social revenge was Pino Daniele, a Neapolitan musician and singer who my father loved and passed on to me the same passion. Nice video and greetings from Italy!

This was a delight to watch. I'll definitely check out that Anthrax record. For me the life changing records have always been divided equally between punk and hip hop. I think what really got me started on the path to punk and hardcore was Generator by Bad Religion which I bought on cd on kind of a whim, not knowing anything about the band or the album. I was at the time kind of getting bored of the music I was listening to and watned to expand my horizons. I've recently (couple weeks ago) finally got it on vinyl. That one immediately sparked my interest in punk and later hardcore and all the politics that come with it. Eventually it lead to The Shape of Punk To Come. That was at the time the wildest and most ambitious music I'd ever heard. I'd say it still is up there too! You can easily connect the dots between the first time I put on that record and my decision to go to university and get a degree in philosophy. I ate up all the courses on ethics, politics and aesthetics. I even wrote an essay for one of the courses on aesthetics about the "Refused Are Fucking Dead" manifesto. Sadly that essay is lost to time but I got a good grade on it, haha. Other records that changed my life include Aquemini by OutKast, The Archandroid by Janelle Monáe, Apocalypse Dudes by Turbonegro and very recently Body Talk by Robyn, to name a few. Anyway, thanks for the video. I'm excited to watch more of them!

First record that changed my life: I guess it’s a mix of several or it’s just the way memory slogs things together, but I guess being introduced to like Evil Empire and (it’s corny to mention here, but I guess I wouldn’t be here otherwise) the Shape of Punk to Come. Records like these definitely derailed any path I was on and are still a building stone for who and where I’m at today, at least career wise. As a lil’ idiot in a suburb of Norrköping that still to this day is an on again/off again/almost exposed area it really brought me out of that bubble and then slammed me back down hard with another outlook on a lot of things, from how people are marginalised, to animal rights (the Jag äter inte mina vänner duet is the strongest since Celine Dion feat. Tommy Körberg!) and politics in general. This had a definite influence on me joining a political youth party in my teens, up until today when I’m 38 and working at the local union office (and I still usually crank the Deadly Rythm or Depeche Modes Everything Counts before going to a meeting with the employer regarding a dispute or whatever!) Anywho, later I got into things like Nine Inch Nails and Ministry, and then to mostly european stuff like (some) Einstürzende Neubauten, Nick Cave, Joy Division, Current 93 etc, then back to the americas when I bought Swans’ Soundtracks for the Blind on a whim, didn’t understand it at first and let it sit for a year but then doubled down on it and then went through like 5 years in a haze with mostly different Michael Gira projects on repeat. There was a period of a lot of shoegazing as well, which I guess is the only genre I’ve identified with the most. Around the 10s I tried breaking out of the mostly male led music I listened to and got into things early Bat for Lashes, Dum Dum Girls, Cults and so on. Now I’ve spent the last almost two years obsessing over Pascals Fuck like a beast (incredible, subjectively the objectively best swedish rock album in swedish ever) and IB Sundströms (mostly) Antropofagernas Rike II. There’s of course dozens of other artists and records and if I wrote this down tomorrow it would’ve been pretty different. Either way, it’s always interesting to hear people talk about their passion so looking forward to the youtuber era of your career!

I'm kinda pretty young (19), so I got to your Refused records through Cyberpunk. when I first heard those SAMURAI songs, they blew my mind away, and than a friend of my told me about the IRL band, which is, obviously, Refused. So I started listening all the stuff, from War Music to Everlasting and ended up being top 0.001% of your Spotify listeners, lol. I pretty much like Nirvana's Bleach album, too. I think you and Kurt are like the best screaming vocalists I could ever find, inspiring me to start off a band of my own (unfortunately broken up month ago, but I'll make a new one) and writing songs (written like 22nd song today). Thank you very much! P.S. Do you know any european labels that work with punk-kind-of-music by any chance? Awesome start! I'd wish you luck, but I think you have skill enough that you won't need it. My first record? Well, the first record I bought is boring. It's Kiss Alive, and I bought it to be cool with the kids. But, here's a first record that's much cooler: My Mom is cousin to James Osterberg. In May of 1973, He brought some copies of Raw Power to a family event, and gave a copy to 6 year old me. ( He must have been very high, but there you go) My Mom took it before I could listen to it, but I can still claim that the first record I ever had ( for all of about 15 minutes) was Raw Power by the Stooges!

Stuff like Opeth, Amon Amarth, Dimmu Borgir. Also in high school was when I first heard Refused and that probably had the biggest impact on me of any band, it made me a socialist.
