Great video, but didn’t you forget David Sylvian: “Blemish" and “Manafon”? And while I’m at it, this years reissue of David Sylvians: “Sleepwalkers” is a wonderful compilation as well. By the way you should check out the two resent reissues of his brother Steve Jansen: “Slope” and “Tender Extinction”. Great albums, and David Sylvian is singing on two tracks on “Slope”.

Another great video. I have a couple of the albums mentioned, and agree with your comments on those. (Dillard & Clark, Coltrane) In these days of tight money I can't afford everything, so hearing from a reliable source steering us to the best choices is a big help. Thanks!

Mazzy. Great overview. The David Crosby 1971 LP - MoFi stated it was their last 'full analogue' production. Also - great story. The recording engineer at the time recorded the sessions at 30 ips - double the standard 15 ips. of note: Wally Heider’s Studio in San Francisco: The recording engineer Stephen Barncard along with assistant Ellen Burke incorporated innovative mic techniques that Barncard had been developing for months. Then ran tape at 30 ips instead on 15 ips.(inches per second) which was considered absurdly extravagant, but by doing so the retained a wider range of frequencies and detail overall.

A great Lp, my OG has an enchanting sound, was always happy with it. I really don't hear the psychedelia in it as you state Mazzy, despite the fact they were all wrecked while doing it. I hear more of a progressive approach to his songwriting, lots of classical and other European influences in there, even jazz. Doesn't sound like jazz, but you can tell he was listening to jazz at the time.
@asufluffhead Жыл бұрын
Both the Mofi SACD and 45rpm LP sound amazing, but the OG Atlantic is excellent and the Classic Records is one of the best sounding records I have ever heard. Amazing/enchanting album to say the least.

Hi Mazzy you had me at reissues. Have to cut down unfortunately. Dont know what Santa has planned for me but I promise I have been good. I got the Elton John Madman box, Kinks muswell/everybody's in showbiz and the Beach Boys Sail on Sailor box set this year. For me that is very good... and very selective. Wishing you all that is beautiful in this season. More music but mostly Health and happiness

Really loved all those jazz releases you showed early on. I’ve got to grab that Alice Coltrane, for sure. Toast is great, but I can’t get away from those live Neil Young releases. So good. His archival output is second to none.

2022 has been the year of Neil Young, Toast is a very good album! I need to check out that Karen Dalton album, Cheech Marin use to live with her and Lacy J. Dalton for awhile in Los Angeles near the Whiskey A Go-Go, right around the time she was working on that album.

What's Going On was well worth the hassle of trying to get the Kevin Gray cut over here even though the KG version was pressed at GZ in the Czech Republic just that UMG were trying to palm us off with a cut from digital file version rather than the recorded whose European jacket original had Kevin's name on it.Kevin nailed it with his cut. Marvin didn't get wrapped up in slogans but webt straight for the questions, the moral and spiritual questions that matter and we need to ask them and they're still relevant. Blemish was a favourite of mine this last year and was pleased with the extended re-issue of Japan's Exorcising Ghosts too While I didn't get the record of Blue Train, I did get the double cd which was very nicely presented for a cd and sounded great through my SMSL dac so whatever format people got that on it was worth the wait. Sending you and your family seasonal wishes and we'll see you after Christmas where Mr Claus has some 14x14" packages I believe for me!

Totally agree on the David Crosby, incredible sound, one small correction though, that release is actually AAA, no digital step according to Mofi, possibly there very last all analogue release as everything going forward will have the DSD step.
@SafeAndSoundTXAudioExcursion Жыл бұрын
I don’t believe there is a digital step in Crosby MOFI, probably the last release that was actually all Analogue.

Subjective as it is, I gotta disagree on the Coltrane 'Blue Trane' LP. It was never one of his best or most endearing, at the time he didn't even want to do the session, he was done with doing hard bop. He has said he liked the record, but if you listen to his next LP 'Giant Steps' it's a world apart. Blue Trane imo, is not worth the falling-over-oneself to get an expensive reissue. The fact that it is his only Blue Note leader LP....who cares.
@mazzysmusic Жыл бұрын
Fair enough. I love the record even though it’s not one of my top three Coltrane records. But this great reissue of it came out this year and this video is not about ranking all his albums. ✌🏼
