How would you define a vintage sound? Dennis Rux is owner of the Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! studio and has a unique perspective on vintage recording gear and the techniques that shaped the sound of decades.

What defines vintage sound for you?

Vintage sound refers first to the amount of gear involve to produce a particular sound, for example if you consider that analog console it is complex board with many components as condensers resistances tubes transformers, etc... indeed other gear like levelers compressors EQs reverbs add the same taste, increase the deep and the nuances with these particular sounds that came from that equipment... I am talking about distortion, harmonics, noises, dynamic processes... when you recreate a specific sound you are an artist... that is the reason of why I choose RME because after all the process you will need record all into DAW or recorder with a great converter crystal clear and precise to get the sound that you recreate!!! I am agreed with Dennis RME gives support through the time and those drivers with TotalMix is just amazing feature... because we want just a stable system to work with for some years!!! Keep on people! Good vibes.

@@RMEAudio Of course my dear People! I would say that it corresponds to psychoacoustics and how we interpret and name the sensations ... "vintage sound" can be interpreted in many ways ... lofi, warm sound, tape machines, tube amps, old gear and instruments, particular style of music, etc. To me is just recreate a particular sensation or emotion that makes you feel any special... Greetings

Nice Desk. Throw in a couple of vintage LA-2 comps. I miss using a desk. I use RME 800s currently and pine for a newer RME IO. Retired now its just out of range financially. I do agree that period between '65 and '75 was the biggest sound change period where snares, guitars, vocals and recording in general came unto its own. I started at 17 in '67 on a tube desk and experienced the gear changes. Between Europe/Britain with EMI/Germany making astonishingly cool mics/desks and in the states with people like Bill Putman and Paul Wolf at API doing sonically quality products, Dean Jensen too and California companies, the clarity and punch changed big time. Thanks for your video Dennis.

Luckily there are many inexpensive vintage desks out there! Combine them with your Fireface and you have a beautiful setup.

As Dennis is going through the features of the desk it made me think that Totalmix FX shares some of its design.
