Hot Rod Hoarder

Күн бұрын

Denny George is one of the ultimate Hot Rod Hoarders! This CRAZY car collection is special because we have old pictures of many of the cars, dating back to the 1970's. Denny is one of my dad's best friends, and they've built some absolutely insane hot rods through the years. We recently had the opportunity to visit Denny's collection, which is scattered across several locations here in Tennessee. He has kept nearly every car he's ever built, and trust me when I say that he's spent a lifetime building awesome cars, so there's a lot to see here. He even kept two of his old drag cars, both of which experienced horrific crashes, and Denny tells us the stories behind them.
While exploring his hoard of awesome cars and parts, something caught my eye. It was a chrome straight axle, and Denny told me it came from "Loco", which was a Kellison funny car that he had in the '70s, which is a car that my dad and I now own. So of course, I brought that home as a cool souvenir to go with the history of his old drag car.
Denny has spent a lifetime as a machinist and fabricator, and he has dreamed up some wild ideas in the past 50 years. In my opinion, Denny is the Ultimate Hot Rod Hoarder.

@@HotRodHoarder Heard of 24 hours of Lemons ? Could perhaps be worth building up a unique car for that, doesn't have too follow the budget that closely if it's really a sight too behold or a really weird car, like one of these old cars with a more modern ish frame or suspension under it & a smaller v8 or v6. Do email them ofc with questions in general about what you can do and how safe it needs too be, and what they would want too see regardless of the 500 $ budget & see if they got anything you would be interested in building up with perhaps one or two of these yard videos sent for general ideas. Or what you own personally perhaps at the moment that you could modify a bit further and get safe enough for running in Lemons with a junk-ish engine of some sort. Maybe something like a mid engine mini truck or shortening a body of a car & putting it on another chassis could be fun as well. Like the Dodge Viper V10 Engined Rolls Royce from the mid 70's that was racing around in Lemons, dunno what engine it has now though. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWfCmmaKaauamtU If that doesn't quite work maybe do the Lemons Rally kind of a road trip more then a rally across a part of the US, street legal car and some free time, preferably with creature comforts like ac, heater working as they do go places that are both hot & cold.

@@HotRodHoarder Dude, I can relate. I grew up in southern Indiana when I wasn't globe trotting with my Mom who married a military guy after she left my Dad. I have been collecting and playing with old cars and trucks all my 55 years. Now my family has dwindled to just a few of us, and I have no kids. The zoning board is attacking me for having my old cars and trucks on my private property and I have fought as hard as I can but they are determined to destroy me it seems. I don't have near the old stuff you put in this video but I have earned everything I have. How can these monsters steal from a man after all the taxes and dues you pay in a lifetime? I wanted to tinker with this stuff in my retirement and keep bread and milk in the fridge by turning them out, one at a time,, now they're moving to steal everything from me and call it a new ordinance. Is there any car guys who are also patriots and attorneys who stand against this nazi bullshytte? I've helped others all my days, and the one buddy I had, who wrote for Mopar Collectors Guide magazine, Paul Wilson, got cancer and died, and since then I have been taking care of my Grandparents in their golden years. Now they've passed, and I am trying to get back to my hobby, but these unholy crooks are set to destroy me, they won't even recognize I have injured my back trying to meet their demands and they just keep attacking me. Do you know anyone in our hobby like Jerry Spence? (the attorney who defended the Weaver family from the government after they killed his boy and his wife?) I have tried to email Steve Mangnante at Hod Rod and Geoff Stunkard but haven't had any luck yet. Does Tom Cotter or anyone at Hagerty take part in any organization that looks out for gearhead interests?

Thank you so much for the tour of Denny's vast and eclectic collection. I heard about him parking his Chevelle upside down in the creek when we worked together at UTA in the early 90's, the man has nine lives. I have lost contact with him over the years and the last time I saw him was probably 2005 or 6. If you see him and could remember please tell him that I lost my wife Laurie on Feb. 5th to ovarian cancer. Some of our fondest memories are from the time that we lived in Dayton. We all partied a time or two in the house that Don Yahn built for us in Pine Hollow on Richland Creek, great times with great people.

Wow! That sums up the cars. The great part of this story is two guys who works so well together and create it out of parts and bits of cars some very special cars. It was hard back then to get two people to agree on anything but more so today. But when it comes to a creation your baby being 55 Chevy or whatever it might be. I grew up in farm country and my dad had a well shop and fabricating shop. Not just cars but we built a lot of stuff. You learn to build one thing you can apply to something else. We worked hard. Let you know what everyday I realize even more what a privileged childhood I had. Sir you've had a privilege childhood growing up around these cars being created. But you don't need me to tell you that. See that's the true gem of the story. Thanks for sharing.

The people who see this posting as being about hot rods and collector vehicles have seen really nothing; This is most important because it provides a view of the real America. And these are the men who are able to well maintain this great nation. And to those who would snort at that, you do not understand the making of this country nor are you worthy of the blessing of this country. i think it's cool to have couple of cars that could be daily's and couple projects on going. Maybe couple of I'll get to it eventually, but that's it. I started down this road when I started to notice after around 11 cars and only 2 were runners and only 1 that could be reliable enough for long trip. Sooner or later what, when, how do you clean it all up. Leaving it for someone else to do?

I had a neighbor ... dozens of classic muscle cars and some rare cars in the woods... he refused to sell he said he'd rather watch them rot into dust before somebody else gets his treasures

That's a real shame! It would be fine if they were protected in a shed or a barn, but having them rot outside seems a waste.

Our trips up to 411 for the Rat Rod Rumble were always a lot of fun. Drove my old rusty Henry J up there one year.

Great video, thank you! I love that 34' Ford. I always wanted one of those to build a California Kid clone. I like that early 60's Fairlane too, another car I always wanted but never found when I could do something with it.

Thanks for the video. I like the winters. You can do some rubber necking through the woods. Lots of projects. Man got to have a clean up. Lot of good on the floor. Or give it a new lease of life to the next generation. Thanks again. Cool footage. Keep um comming.

“I tell you what-I tell you what!” This’s what can be created when skill, dreams and NOT sitting at the Bar “telling stories, but makin them!” You can feel the PTSD when he’s recalling the ‘65 Malibu/Chevelle crash in to the pond. The instinct to pull the helmet off during the search for an escape route is a survival tale God had a Hand and Plan in! I was saying a Prayer of Thanksgiving that he lived to tell it! Ty for posting. I’m glad it wasn’t a Z16, (seeing the 327 on the fender)!

God played a big part of his survival, for sure! I was curious about the car's factory options so I looked at the cowl tag. It was a Super Sport car, but just the standard small block variety. Would've been crazy if it was a Z16.
