In my opinion Weep for Love would have made the better choice for release as a single over Japanese Tears. Anyone interested, check out the studio recording of Weep for Love and compare the songs and let us all know what YOU think with a reply in the comments here.
@akirafelix3865 Жыл бұрын
@@djkingstonvibes i mean, almost every other song on that album is better than Japanese Tears. He just wanted to give the "angle" of the japanese fiasco. But yeah, Weep for Love is a better single choise for the album. He also released Go Now as a single around that time.
@djkingstonvibes Жыл бұрын
@@akirafelix3865 After Weep for Love, I would have recommended the re-recording of Say You Don't Mind as a single over Japanese Tears or the redo of Go Now. That said, "everyone" is familiar with Go Now (the Moody Blues version with Denny on lead vocal), especially everyone into music in 1980. It was a hit in the USA, UK, etc. back in the day. If you ever listened to the "oldies" or "classic rock" radio stations in the 1980s, Go Now was in regular rotation.
@akirafelix3865 Жыл бұрын
@@djkingstonvibes the Go Now single was a double a-side along with Say You Don't Mind. That single is credited to The Denny Laine Band or something like that. While Japanese Tears is credited to just Denny Laine. It's really strange. It might have been the record label not knowing how to go about the promotion or just Laine's lack of understanding about his own appeal.
@djkingstonvibes Жыл бұрын
@@akirafelix3865 Thank you for the details on the singles releases. I do wonder if Denny made a mistake with Japanese Tears being a released song at all. First, it was not that great a song (and Denny mentions it being a promotional tool of a song)... Second, I imagine it annoyed Paul McCartney and when Denny announced he was leaving Wings in early 1981 rather than waiting for McCartney to pick up Wings touring again, McCartney likely thought Denny was too much trouble to chase after to try to get Wings back together. Seems it was 2 publicity stunts on Denny's part... 1) Do a song Japanese Tears about McCartney getting busted in Japan, 2) Announce quitting Wings rather than wait for the Wings touring hiatus to end. To give Denny some cover from blame, Denny does mention in the interview he would have not done a song like Japanese Tears unless his friend "Brian"(?) in the audience had not come up with the idea. I wonder whose idea was it to officially quit Wings. Another one of "Brian's" ideas? Is "Brian" the one Denny referred to when he said someone who worked for him said some things in the press about Denny being mad at Paul (about not touring) and that kept Denny and Paul apart professionally from then on? (Those details were in another Denny Laine interview post Wings break up.) Lots of drama and twists to end days of Wings. It is a real shame Denny and Paul never got back together after the Wings break up. They were a great combination on Denny's songs, Paul's songs, projects like Denny's Holly Days album of Buddy Holly covers, and The Denny Laine / Paul McCartney rock 'N' roll jam sessions material.
