I just got a budgie yesterday, and it’s really tame! It doesn’t run when you get close to the cage, it actually stays close and it already started singing a bit! It can also comfortably eat. It doesn’t move around much and I’m yet to see it drink or play. Any advice on when I should start letting it out of the cage? well well well, it’s been a month, and i love him so much!!! he is so cuddly, he spends most of his day outside, he loves sitting on my head/shoulder and he’s super playful! he flies up to me all the time!!! i’ve never had such a friendly and loving budgie :’(

If I let my budgie out, I'm going to worry about them not being able to go back in, since they're still scared of me and feel uncomfortable when my hand or myself is near them..
@shriihanmukherjee65023 жыл бұрын
I know by now you've probably sorted this issue out, but for anyone else in a similar situation: you need to train your budgies a little before you let them out, as forcing them back into their cage is worse than just not letting them out in the first place. That's another reason why it's important to have a large cage, as they might have to stay in the cage for the first week-month. Before letting your budgies out of their cage, they should be comfortable enough to sit on your hands- and preferably do it on command too. There are a lot of tutorials online about how to get to this stage of trust, so I won't type how to get this far here. Otherwise it's going to be a huge hassle trying to chase your bird back into their cage.

I cant understand why people spend so much money on wooden perches in the store, while you can find them in Forest for free. Just Wash them under hot water and put them into oven, and then they are clean. I also dont Think that yearly check ups are neccesary for healthy Birds, just New ones might need it or when they seem to be sick. I thought you know the difficulties that you can have with parents for vet Visits. But it was a nice and helpful Video, i very liked the blue flying room

@anserbauer3094 жыл бұрын
I agree. Perches are easy to make safe and toys are the same. Visits to the vet can be extremely stressful to birds and cause them enormous anxiety if they're not used to travelling or being outside their home. They can be wormed etc at home without any need to be transported. If their perches are good and they get plenty of exercise, there's no need to stress them with bi-annual vet visits.

The last budgie we had was like having a dog, actually he was worse than a dog! I have so many stories about that bird! First off the dog comment, it became attached to me like a well trained dog does to its owner or master. It knew the sound of my car as it pulled into the driveway, it would listen in the morning , as soon as my feet hit the floor he started squawking, and loud. It didn’t matter if his cage was covered he squawked and nothing would stop him until I went downstairs and went to his cage or someone let him out. He would even fly up the stairs to find me if I didn’t come down to the main floor, if his cage door had been opened he would fly up the stairs to find me. He also had over a 50 word vocabulary. This budgie was hand raised from hatching by a very special breeder. Back to the dog comparison, a dog can usually be shut up from barking if trained correctly. This budgie, Tweety, could not! My voice would set him off or if I was in the room and his cage was not open he would raise hell if he could see or hear me, sometimes but rarely a cover quieted him down but at times we had to let him out to shut him up and he would be right over to me on my shoulder.. He passed one winter about 11 or 12 years ago. And he now has a marked resting place at,the end of the backyard. I think we all say “ hi Tweety” when walking past his resting place. Tweety was a special bird.

We have conversations and although he doesn't talk he seems to like company and music being on.

My budgies disliked me for a long time. I got two at the same time and turns out they were opposite genders so they kind of just bonded with each other and didn’t need me. I wanted them to feel safe around me and their home (although they have a huge cage. 4ft tall, 3 ft wide just for two little budgies) but anyways, I started just leaving their cage open all the time. I cover the windows and mirrors and anything unsave, and they’ve really seemed to trust me more after it. Now they’ll be flying around my room without any disregard for what I’m doing. I know it’s not likely they’ll bond with me, but at least we have a bit of trust now. Also I literally can’t get them to eat fruit or veggies, like at all. They were getting really overweight with the seed and I was worried about their health so I brought them to a vet and the avian vet said I need to try taking the seed and replacing it with fruits or veggies for long periods of time (like 8 hours obviously switching out the food so it doesn’t get yucky in their cage) but they would rather not eat than eat fruits and veggies. I then tried to mix the fruits with the seed, like roll some bananas in the seed, but they still just ate all the seed and left the banana. Anyone know how to get them to eat fruits and veggies?

And simple health checks, i mean its not neceselary once in month but maybe once in 3 months or as you wish
@anserbauer3094 жыл бұрын
@@iiamiko6580 I own several hundred birds. I have raised and bred birds for 40 years. I have outdoor and indoor birds including many parrots over the years. I have rescued car-struck wild birds and hand-reared native birds. I hatch birds in incubators and trained birds for others. If bird owners learn about the dietary needs of their animals and provide them with adequate housing, stimulus and exercise, there is no reason to subject their animals to the stress of vet visits more than once every few years, if that. Unlike mammals, birds are far more prone to stress-related illnesses and injuries and exposing them to monthly or 3 monthly vet visits is, in my opinion, unnecessary and unkind. Birds given a varied, seasonal, healthy diet should not need additional vitamins at any time in their lives unless they are sick and owners can easily learn what they need to, to perform their own 'health check' just as well as any vet. If you need a vet to tell you your bird is too fat or too thin or their dropping are too runny (which is all they really check), then you probably aren't spending enough time with your bird.
@iiamiko65804 жыл бұрын
@@anserbauer309 if all owners were like that then profesion veterinar wouldnt exist but not all owners are like you or me, they give birds small place to live also dont provide healthy diet And vitamins when its needed. And most of time they suffer from anxiety. Also most birds are bought to Kids who cant take care of birds properly so whos gonna remove bloody feathers or chip the nails?
@anserbauer3094 жыл бұрын
@@iiamiko6580 It is true that for some people, nail/beak trimming is something they would want a vet to do. But just like doctors who tell us about healthy eating/lifestyle choices, vets have a responsibility to educate owners on the basics of providing a healthy environment for their birds. In my opinion, any vet who encourages people to bring their average, ordinary, healthy budgie to a vet once a month for a 'health check' is behaving very unethically and certainly not in the best interests of the bird. It seems to me your argument is "Because people mistreat their birds, they should take them to their vet all the time". I say, if people mistreat their birds, then they shouldn't have a bird. If people are too lazy to look up how to feed and care for their bird, then they shouldn't have birds. Having as many birds as I do, sometimes they get sick and I still need to take them to the vet for a prescription. BUT if my birds do get sick, it's not because of poor diet, lack of exercise or improper housing.

Any tips for getting budgies too eat veggies? My girl Buki is terrified of them 😂 I make up a chop once or twice a month in bulk and freeze packets. I defrost and mix it in daily to seed, it’s the only way I can semi get her interested. I’m not sure how much of them she actually eats though. I’ve tried desensitising her or leaving things there for a few hours, she just won’t touch that side of the cage until they’re gone. I’ve even tried eating thing next to her to show they’re harmless, she might take one bite but then refuses to touch again because they’re a wet texture. Fruits is a total no go for her.

All other Budgies I’ve had love to nibble of carrots and things I out in the cage but she will just sit in the same spot of the cage until it’s gone. Katrina Sayer some people actually don’t start with chop, introduce her to each food by itself (try fake nibbling it then offering her some, they are pack animals) so you can see what she likes, then you can incorporate it into chop. For example, my bird is obsessed with lettuce but hates carrots, so when I make it I don’t put carrots in etc

zoesterii that’s what I did for weeks to begin with, no luck at all. So I gave chop a shot and she gets excited every day before I put it in.

I’m watching all these videos in preparation for the two birbs I have reserved in a pet shop. There is a classic green budgie who I named Nikki and a gray one who I can’t decide on a name for. Stella is one option and so is Summer.

My Basquiat is tamed and easily hops on my hand, eats from it etc, but he doesn't like to get out of the cage, at all. He accidentally stepped out of the cage twice, panicked so much I had to pick him up from the ground and calm him down in his cage... what can I do?

I 😢am - not a novice to budgies. I love them - they are underappreciated little parrots. They should live at least 13-15 years in captivity - with proper diet and plenty of freedom (supervised). Wild ones live up to 20.

In a previous vid it stated no nail trimming, holding tight in hand, can cause bird to lose trust???

I have tried giving my two every fruit and veggie they are allowed to eat, they tasted each one and that's it. won't even take a nibble. All they want is seeds, herbs, and snack sticks. Vet says it's a little odd but they are as healthy as can be.

I now have a bird room (yay :D) and they have 2 cages, one is one of those regular sized budgie cages that you'd see anywhere (not the super tiny ones tho) - this isn't their permanent cage its just another spare one which they like to use sometimes so why not leave it there. The main cage is huge and has loads of toys and some platforms which is cool so they can rest their feet if they want to. They also have one of those twirly rope perches which hangs in the middle and they're addicted to it XD Also around the room we put natural branches on the walls, which also have toys on them. I still plan to get even more toys for them and hopefully more done for the room (not sure what yet but maybe an edible plant that budgies can safely eat if I can find a good one somewhere hopefully) but the cage is open all day and sometimes all night because they like to sleep on the branches outside the cage lol

Also fun fact my lutino budgie called sunny screams like hell whenever she's doing something. U always hear her before u see her 😂 - just to anyone who wants to get a budgie dont be fooled by their tiny body they are noisy af

Aww my house is really small and we don't really have space for a cage that big :( (we got the biggest one possible in our house but it still seems small to me ;-;)

If your budgie(s) come(s) out of their cage often then I'm sure it's okay! Try to get a bigger cage if you ever move though!

I’ve tried introducing every kind of fruit and vegetable to my parakeets and they will only eat apples and seeds. I mix pellets into the seeds and they leave the pellets. I even took their food away for a whole day and left only a nice mix of veggies but they didn’t touch it. They’re too small to go long without food so of course I put their seeds back in. Any advice? Is it the worst if that’s just what they eat forever? I think I’m doing everything else right. But I can’t figure out how to fix their diet.

Could you tell us more about what to do once you get the birds? Like, how do you let them out of the cage, how do you put them back into it, how to train them to come to you. I got 2 budgies a week ago and soon I will let them get outside the cage & I want them to have plenty of space but also to train them somehow not to maniacally fly around 😂 I simply don't know what to except once I open the cage. Pozdrav! 🐦💖

Daily, I feed my budgie Kaytee fiesta parakeet food, treats (millet, treat stick, cheerios), and I offer a small amount of fruits and vegetables. Is this a healthy diet? I'm new to keeping budgies and birds in general. Any advice would be very helpful!

But how much time would it take for a budgie to adapt thd current people and the environment? From the first day since I bought them I let them to play outside the cage for an hour but later they don't come back and I'm trying hard to get them back
@LP-XXX4 жыл бұрын
You really should wait for them to return on their own, nearly all budgies will return on their own as soon as they get hungry or sleepy
