This thing has 2.3 MILLION km on the clock in 13 years, and yet somehow we routinely manage to keep trains working for 50+ years. That's really amazing!

30:40 What is that spooling up sound after the SLT has stopped? Happens every time the SLT comes to a halt.
@Kromaatikse2 жыл бұрын
A likely possibility is the air compressor. Air pressure is used for the brakes, doors, and suspension on many trains, and all of those are activated as part of a station call. Some trains use electric motors instead for the doors, but the suspension levelling valves still operate mainly when the train is halted with the doors open. It could also be the air conditioning going into boost mode, to compensate for the draught when the doors are open. I'd expect that to be of more utility in particularly hot or cold weather, rather than a damp but otherwise mild autumn day.
@CabviewHolland2 жыл бұрын
I do not hear this after each stop. It sounds like the automatic aircon/ventilation switching to a higher rpm. Compressor cannot be heard from the cab, so that’s not it.

Utrecht Vaartsche Rhein is a new one for me. The proximity of the station to CS renders it a bit pointless, no? We take holidays in Het Grote Bos near Driebergen but have not been since 2015. I see Driebergen station has also been totally remodelled too. I loved the spoorweg overgang there but it was not practical with so much traffic on both the road and rail. Thanks for the trip in one of my favourite places in the world!
@CabviewHolland2 жыл бұрын
Hi Walter, have you also visited the Bornia forest, also called Heidestein near Driebergen-Zeist? There used to be a narrow gauge railway 100 years ago and elements of that are still visible.
@waltertownsend38212 жыл бұрын
@@CabviewHolland Hi, years ago, we went to somewhere called the Heidepark or Heidetuin which were some gardens off the Ouwe Arnhemsebovenweg, if I remember correctly. Are you writing about the same thing, perhaps? There was a lot of heather in bloom, and it didn’t look very obviously like mini railway territory but there were some random bridges and things.

als machinist ken je de weg uit je hoofd, dus weet je waar alle wissels, seinen, stations etc. zijn en de ATB laat het ook weten als er een grote snelheidsverlaging is, dus word er bij mist ook gewoon op volle snelheid gereden

Hm, 485 km (300 MPH roughly) per day 365 days per year. for 13 years. That says the trainset managed to average about a bit over 20 kph for every hour of every day. And the trainset keeps on going. Persistent little beasts aren't they? The fog is more impressive at night when the world outside vanishes completely. I remember the ride some time ago with this happening. The Ghost Train ride, I called it in my head when I dreamed up that Twilight Zone take on it. This fog got down to maybe 40 meters visibility for reading a speed sign. {O.O}

Don't the trains just follow the tracks even when visibility is minimal? That's not something I'd point out to my employer if I were a conductor. They could replace you with a radio controlled 'On' / 'Off' switch and hand-held speed dial back at dispatch. You're not thinkin' too good this morning, are you? Is that why you're late? Sleep in? But I'm not gonna say any wise-guy stuff. I already drank my coffee and ate all my powdered donuts. You had to know there'd be no mercy coming from RT in Puebla, México, ¿verdad? (true?) ...
