You don't know of things like 'Top Gun' RC plane competitions where people can take years to scratch build a plane. Unlike these drift cars that use store bought chassis, the whole airframe including tires and wheels must be custom-made from raw materials.

Sick, reminds me years ago on the scale4x4 forums a guy built his own hilux body out of aluminum baking pans formed over carved wood molds using smudgers. Now we've got 3d printers so the molds are the easy part. The reason he used aluminum baking pans instead of pop cans is it behaves a lot more like sheet metal at this scale pop cans are too thick for realistic denting. The thinner stuff is also easier to form I think he actually started sourcing specific thickness sheet aluminum eventually but, that was probably well over 10 years ago now so my memory is a bit cloudy haha.
@kpopRC
@kpopRC 8 ай бұрын
yeah we talked about it. the pop cans offer more memory.. for crawling i can see your softer aluminum working better. but for slamming and sliding across the walls of the drift track you need something that atleast wants to keep it's shape.

@@kpopRC Good point, one slam at speed would destroy it. Maybe the sub frame sections made of cans with thinner body panels for realistic dents while keeping structural integrity.

As a kid i used to use chicken mesh fencing and a thin layer of paper mache then spray paint it. Then me and my brother would face off and play destruction derby. The chicken mesh and paper would still crumple and hold the damage. Never thought to use cans at the time.

@@thirtythreeeyes8624 I wonder if I couldn’t make a 3d printed stamp mold, I have a s14 body with a s15 front end but the body is too unstable to slice in my 3d printer so that might just work
@thirtythreeeyes8624
@thirtythreeeyes8624 8 ай бұрын
@@hotboyracing I've seen people make sheet metal stamp molds with 3d printed before and it works good even with thick stuff, it should work great for thin aluminum. Just find a model of the body online, scan an rc body if you can or convert a model from a video game using something like blender or z-brush and then break the body into all the segments with positive and negative molds. It's a good amount of work but, once done you could pop out body panels in a matter of seconds.
