How can I directly connect with her. I am in the same boat and need to know how the loans are paid via HSCP
@ErikaCorrea11 сағат бұрын
Hi! The funds received by the scholarship don't have to be paid back. If you have to take out student loans, (I took out a lot of loans) they are paid back just like all the other student loans. There are many pay back options available. I hope this helps.

Since you’re active duty you will also be accumulating time for your retirement, so whenever start repaying the time required you’ll only need 16 years, and when you’re done doing your obligated time you’ll only have 12 years left until retirement! I’m trying to do this because I’m prior service so getting time for retirement for going to school is really valuable.

I applied to the Army as well! I recommend applying to all the branches to maximize your opportunities. I think the airforce was only doing 3 year scholarships at the time which is why I didn’t apply to the airforce. You can also look into applying to a NHSC scholarship.

I just received the HSCP Navy scholarship for PA school! How do you feel about the 3 year commitment? I am a little nervous and wanted to get more insight from someone who has received it.
@ErikaCorrea5 жыл бұрын
CONGRATS! We'll be in a similar boat except mine is a 4 year commitment. I'm completely fine with the commitment and my boyfriend is as well because I'll always be doing dentistry just maybe in a different place. We're both ok with traveling and moving somewhere else for a couple years. My two concerns are, having kids while being in the military and possibly being deployed afterwards. This is still 6-8 years in the future but they are still some thoughts I have. How do you feel about it?
@brookerobinson79665 жыл бұрын
I see the pros and cons of it. I also see how much I could grow as a person and as a healthcare provider, but it scares me! haha Also being deployed will be weird. I've been told it'll most likely happen. I am meeting with my recruiter on Wednesday to ask all of my questions, so maybe that will help me figure everything out! Thanks for your response. :) @@ErikaCorrea

What do they pay for after dental school? Do they pay for your housing ?

Technically, yes. No I have not yet been trained for this so it would not make sense for the military to send me to war while I'm in school because I have not been trained. Do you think it’s easier getting into USC dental school if you are already a student there?
@ErikaCorrea6 жыл бұрын
I honestly have no idea but I can say that the majority of our class either came from USC or UCLA undergrad. I think everyone had to work just as hard to get in. I don't think students that went to USC undergrad got priority if that's what you mean. I personally went to UC Santa Cruz for undergrad. What undergrad do yo go to? :)
@kaylalee34286 жыл бұрын
Quick question, do you have to do any service while you are in school?
@ErikaCorrea6 жыл бұрын
My only requirements are to complete the physical readiness test (PRT) twice a year and to attend quarterly collegiate meetings. I also have to send them my transcripts every semester and I have to be passing all my classes. The PRT consist of a 1.5 mile run, 2 minutes of pushups and 2 minutes of situps. Technically, since I'm actively duty, I could be deployed but they told me that it would never happen because it wouldn't make sense for them to take me out of school. They're investing in me so I could work for them as a dentist in 4 years so they want me to finish school.
@kaylalee34286 жыл бұрын
@@ErikaCorrea okay that makes sense! I figured they wouldn't deploy you sense your such a big investment. Thank you so much for answering my question

I had a question about the program, so since (I believe) you make up the amount of years they pay for. Since you’re already active duty does that mean your don’t have to work for them after?
@ErikaCorrea6 жыл бұрын
No. I still have to work for them for 4 years afterwards because I'm basically not doing anything right now besides going to school. I'm active duty right now and I'm getting paid but I'm not doing any "work" besides my dental school. In the other program, HPSP, you aren't active duty while you're in school like me and you work for them for 4 years as well. This one pays for your school tuition though so it's a way better deal if you get accepted.
@ew-op9dr6 жыл бұрын
Erika Correa thank you, also where do you work for the navy/army after?
@ErikaCorrea6 жыл бұрын
@@ew-op9dr I would be stationed at one of their bases. They are located all over the US. I will probably preference San Diego or somewhere else in California but ultimately, it is up to the Navy to decide where they want to put me. I was also thinking about maybe leaving the country to go live in Italy or Japan since there are Navy bases there too. I haven't decided whether or not I should prioritize paying off my student loans or traveling and living my best life.

How’s it going Erika, I’ ve been enlisted active duty for 6 years now. When going through the scholarship you received E6 pay, were you considered an 03E your last year of Dental School? I was under the impression that the rating of “E” were given to those who served Enlisted first then Commissioned. Also, your Basic pay jumped from 5k plus to 7k after taxes? The 5k plus you showed is the total for the month in that Grade with x amount of years served. Throwing that out there as some may think it’s 2 paychecks of 5k plus on solely basic pay alone. Your videos are great by the way 🤙🏽I hope to see more as I am following this process in the near future. 🔥
