I love how you said "it's just 4 years" hahahaha! Thank you for the video though, I'm gonna be a junior in college after summer ends and I hope I can get into a dental school with my gpa
@DrWendy7 жыл бұрын
lol do you think 4 years is a long time??? I feel like it is but it still went back kinda fast :P good luck!!! let me know if you have questions
@ppatelnickpatel7 жыл бұрын
Dr. Wendy it's a little long, but I know it'll go by quickly because I'll actually be learning what I want to learn you know :) I do have a question how many volunteer and shadowing hours did you put in before applying? Is there a certain amount you need?
@DrWendy7 жыл бұрын
i think some schools like NYU require like 100 hours of shadowing. I only did like 50 hours of shadowing but I had a lot of volunteer hours. It's not a bad thing to have non dental related hours that shows variety and interest in other things too
@ppatelnickpatel7 жыл бұрын
Dr. Wendy it's really difficult for me to get shadowing hours because no one in my college area is allowing me to shadow unfortunately. Volunteering I'm currently working on though 👍

Thank you so much for you videos!! Literally watched your video about getting into dental school even with an F and subscribed after a few seconds. You are so genuine and so encouraging! Chem 2 is kicking my butt right now and I was starting to feel like looking into other careers with less schooling. But, your words of encouragement are helping me to want to keep going!

ahhh good luck!! hope i gave you some inspiration! Physics and chem were a pain in the ass but you will get through it!!!

Exam grades mean nothing if you have no dexterity. My class ( apart from 4 or 5 students ) were ultra competitive, secretive, knowledge hoarding assholes. Have an outside, private practice dentist as a mentor if you can. They will give it to you straight and pass on knowledge that your professors never will. If you have people skills then you should be fine in the real world and that is what I look for when hiring. Learn about managing a practice from your boss once you secure employment and you will be fine once you have your own practice.

Thanks Dr. Wendy! Very informative video :) I'm also a Canadian Dental student starting U1 and I'm wondering if you have any study tips to do as well as possible and any tips to keep stress as low as possible (because I'm anticipating a lotttt of it). Cheers!
@DrWendy7 жыл бұрын
i wasn't very good at this but my best advice is DONT FALL BEHIND! lol try hard to study a bit every night and not procrastinate - this will keep stress down! I should offer some sort of online mentorship program yes?
@Pacem3217 жыл бұрын
OMG YESSSSS an online mentorship program would be a GODSEND!!!!
@DrWendy7 жыл бұрын
i'm thinking some sort of forum... but on SDN there's already all the information that you need lol
@Pacem3217 жыл бұрын
Yeah a forum would be awesome! I find SDN super helpful but also a lot of the people who comment on there are just so depressing XD It would be nice to have a community of optimistic vegan dentists/ dental students to encourage each other :) Good vibes!!

I love watching your videos so much! I’m a junior in college and I’m very worried about my GPA. I have a 3.72 at my current school but I had a 2.65 from my previous college. I’m a bit discouraged about applying to dental school

Schools generally place more weight on your most recent grades since that is more indicative of your current study habits and level of maturity.
