Great Video! Thanks for the in-depth review. It was very helpful as I am the type of user you described, just installed this system in our own office, by myself, with 'a little bit of knowledge'. After deploying, I have a scenario that doesn't seem to be covered in any forum or video that I've come across so far! In configuring the UA-PRO for 'entry' we want some users to have the 'mobile button' feature enable for access (ie managers and directors), and we have other users that we wish for this feature to be disabled (ie majority of our employees). We desire this so that the managers can remotely unlock while they are out of office, but we do not wish for majority of employees to have this feature, and instead for them to only be able to unlock when in proximity to the UA-PRO reader and the mobile tap / nfc feature for unlocking. It seems that in the UA-PRO settings the 'mobile tap' is only a toggle switch for active or inactive and that is limiting for our scenario. Conversely, when configuring the policies and users, there doesn't seem to be any control whatsoever on which entry method feature can be applied to a specific policy or user. So my question is: is there a way, or a hack, to deploy a feature like 'mobile button' entry to some users and not others? Have you come across this scenario, or have any silver bullet hack for a way around it. Advice is greatly appreciated! Cheers.

Basically you get to set up whether the user has a keycode, an RFID, access to the door app, and whether or not they are a guard. The guard is the only one that can let people in remotely, somebody rings the doorbell. They get notified and can click to let them in on the phone. As far as the app itself, I don't think you can limit the different ways they can access with the app, meaning press the button, shake or present to the unit..

Unfortunately they are now requiring a $5/month PER USER charge to use the platform to open doors using a phone NFC. The UID platform is fine (now a requirement for using a cell phone for badging in), but maybe for $1/month instead of $5/month would be more reasonable... Realllllly disappointed as I purchased the UA Pro G2 based on this review, then immediately had issues trying to get a handful of 10 test users going with this. To clarify in the video he says its free up to 50 users and it is only free up to 5 users (not 50). Great video, the product is amazing, it just sucked as they are paywalling basic functionality. Ubiquiti is also pretty famous for ignoring critical feature updates such as automatic reboot for device health...

This really sold me on the features of Unifi Access, but the ongoing costs are too high for me with the changes to the Cloud Basic Plan. :( I would suggest you add a disclaimer to the description or something so people aren't mislead into thinking they can make do with the free plan.

Good video, thank you, like your stuff. Reading the Ubiquiti Reddit, a lot of people seem to suggest not using a g2 reader pro for residential use. Would you agree or disagree on that for an install that would include protect cameras and why? If so, would you recommend for a residential install that a g4 doorbell pro combined with an access lite to be more appropriate, or is Ubiquiti just not great for residential access solutions? Is something like Hikvision better for residential access solutions, even when the rest of the network and cameras are Ubiquiti?

Great video! I only disagree with the power aspect of your review, most people would use a fail-secure system that when there is no power, locks, in contrast with the magnet used in your installation that is a fail-safe implementation. Also, you can hook up the access hub with batteries to keep it working even with an outage

It works off of the users credentials. It can not be "forwarded" to someone else, but you can set up the app on a new phone or share credentials

1 big issue is there is no multi-door hubs only single door. Also, The access hub should have a external 12v power input option so u don't need to have poe++ switch. and you can run it from 12v dc security power. Its not cheap either, hubs 1 per door, many cameras many readers, rack mount poe switches, UDM-SE, many access points, it all adds up to many thousands...What is good thou is its all controlled in the one place. providing you're own backup power should not be an issue.

How have you been contending with the camera capture not being wide enough to capture the faces of people at the door? Even when mounted at its highest allowable height it basically misses the entire head of average sized adults.

The latest version of access lets you use a camera from protect.. It's basically the feature I was asking for in the video, they've implemented it. You could also put a camera on the hub itself..

Would be so nice to use unifi access / uid also for our hotel customers. some hotels have no receptions, the guests check in automatically. so it would be so great if there is any api or file format for communicating with the booking system or even offer an integrated booking system. so the visitors dont have to be configurated manually. has anyone any news on this topic?

Oh don't forget to have a manual override option (key switch) for your locks, it the system is compromised and locks you out, or stops responding. Also setup a emergency backup system this is an emergency all doors open or all doors lock down, this is a override that bypass the hubs , the emergency option requires a password and is too slow in an emergency a panic button separate wired system is best. say gunman, or a fire. no time for passwords. system could malfunction too, must have a override.

Magnetic locks should only be used in low security need applications, too easy to overcome, especially when low-powered and sorry but PoE of any standard is not adequate. Not bad video otherwise, plenty of detail and answered many of the questions others have missed. LOL @ Marty being a bad-boy.....

Could you explain a bit more what you mean when you say 'PoE of any standard is not adequate'? Is it non compliant to be using that to power the access hub? Also, wouldn't using an electric strike be the answer for the external doors? This system is designed for those as well. Magnetic lock can be just used to secure internal sensitive areas, and will fail open in the event of extended power loss which is what you would want.
@bentheguru4986
@bentheguru4986 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewjohnston359 I am refering to mag-locks, not strikers. Magnetic locks need power to hold closed (electro-magnets) and the lack of power from PoE will not generate enough flux to hold a door secure for anything above the wind.

What have you done since they changed the basic plan to 5 users and 5 guests in UID? I just set up my first door for my small business I am an Electrical Contractor we have 7 people in our shop/office. Just wondering if I should just stay on Access or go UID? We run Talk so hoping the UID App will eventually have a soft phone but for now cant see spending $4.5/month per user for door access. Thought about looking at just trying 5 users and set others up as guests but I have about 5 delivery drivers I would like to set up as guests. Just looking for your input. Thanks!!
