Denzel Washington is a man who has just made his life matter, by talent, honesty, dedication and kind sincerity. Well done sir. Hope you are not finished yet - you're two years younger than me.

The Most humble answer I've ever heard when being asked about being a sexy man, is from Denzel. Nobodies perfect but Denzel always seemed to have kept his head on straight in his career. If there is a role model in Hollywood, he's been it. 🙌🏾

Denzel's portrayal of Steve Biko in Cry Freedom was an absolute mater class in his craft. I first watched it here in Australia, accompanied by my then Fiance who was a political refugee from an African country & who's experiences had been not too dissimilar, and so this story had a very personal and individual resonance for us.

Is that the movie where Denzel gets whipped in the arse and then about 10 seconds later, tears start flowing down his cheeks? I've always wondered why it took so long for the tears to start streaming down. Getting whipped must be seriously painful and surely the tears would flow more or less immediately? Also, I read somewhere that an American teenager got whipped in Singapore in the 1990s after he was caught vandalising cars in that country, and he got whipped in prison as punishment. As he was being whipped, bits of flesh from his arse flew into the air. Today, 30 odd years later, that guy still has scars from those whippings.

That Ellen P. Had the audacity to call him out of his name with no respect. Him not responding did more damage to her Ellen P. Then any thing. Because he is a respected man. Denzel is VERY VERY generous with this old guy. Maybe he was a great interviewer at one time but in this interview Parkinson was horribly informed and less than professional. You never put out into the world false information for the public to take as truth unless everything has been fact checked. Denzel is a pro he simply stayed humorous and generous and simply corrected Parkinson. That's what a classy individual does easily. And Parkinson's focus on being a black actor as oppose to a different angle to denzel's career, is indicative of the racial discrimination problems which are wide spread in the UK.
@linmonash12443 жыл бұрын
Yes the great Denzel managed this interview with grace and courtesy - but I have a great deal of respect for "Parkie' too. He's a lovely and respectful man without a racist bone in his body and being 'clunky' (and relying on background researchers and producers who were running program content with an insular 'Anglo lens' ) is not the same as being racist. He was horribly embarrassed after this incident and never made such an error again. Which proves that a lesson delivered courteously - 'sticks'.
@RoughRider7573 жыл бұрын
@@linmonash1244 I'm certainly willing to be generous with this older guy. And I think you are being overly generous with him by putting all the blame for this unprofessional interview, on the backs of Mr Parkinson's support staff. I'm not sure how fair that is to them. Without question it is the responsibility of the person conducting the interview to make sure all the information he or she is using as fact, is 100% correct before one word comes out of their mouth. The interviewer must put forth their own due diligence prior to any sit down before putting their reputation on the line. And that's done by fact checking. The world is filled with people who are oblivious to the facts about other ethnicities and their backgrounds. That is no excuse for being unprepared and unprofessional. That's such a easy fix. Hire a more diverse informed team. Or fact check everything.

Yes, the part about him drinking was extremely inappropriate. I live in NYC, and I've seen Denzel multiple times in plays, in addition to meeting him in person, and he doesn't have a reputation for substance abuse. In addition, I work in the industry and Denzel has an impeccable reputation. I've never seen an interview like this, and I must say, Denzel is way more gracious than I would have been. He handled this interview very well, under the circumstances.

Well, you seem pretty prejudiced yourself regarding "this old guy". Denzel Washington was directly quoted in The New York Post (February 27, 2001) as being "inches away from alcoholism" in his younger days. Parkinson therefore referenced Washington's own admittance of once having a drink problem.
