while i understand lynchings were normally occuring during a picnic setting, the term picnic was originally a 17th century french term of pique nique which was an out door bring your own food event. im not trying to troll here just saying.

I have watched, listened and read Akala for over 15yrs..He is one of Englands most honest, educated, philosophical, insightful, creative, talented and caring human(e) beings. I travelled to England over 30yrs ago to my first Anti-Nazi rally in Brixton London and yet Akala is one of the finest voices of reason yet and put all my youthful anger into poetry.

How’s it going mate ? I found your comment rrely interesting I’m obviously from Manchester uk and akala is my hero over here but even now they won’t play his tunes in the uk on radio . My question is as a americium when you came here to learn . Did it open your eyes. To things about America. ? I’ve been to America and have family there it’s a cool pace but seems like a lot of Americans are brain washed be nice to here your thoughts

Don't have much to add, but Akala is a national treasure, just like seeing him get more exposure, and he speaks for all the oppressed regardless of race.. even though I personally think 'race' is a divisive concept, only leapt on by the 1% to divide and conquer. Nice reaction. x

Akala is truly one of a kind. The fact that he isn't one of the most revered artists in the world is proof of what he says in his lyrics. He's too intelligent and powerful to be in mainstream culture... Great reaction ✌

Brilliant reaction to one of the seminal FitB sessions, However - I really feel I need to correct you on the origin of the word 'picnic' - that word was already in the English language before lynchings in the US were a thing. It comes from a French word meaning outdoor dining and was in use in Britain to mean what it currently means (to set up an outside dining experience with baskets of food and cloths on the ground or seats brought for the occasion by the 18th Century. It is true that during the era when lynchings became a key part of the anti-civil rights conflict it was often the case that the perpetrators wrapped a communal picnic around the act - So -yes the word has an unfortunate association with lynchings in the US, but that is not the origin of the word or its actual meaning. This was a false fact that spread across the internet in recent years

i agree all the technology and people cant mobalise huge numbers for a cause ,sometimes they can but compared to people who didnt have smartphones its pitiful. modern day has a lot of comforts that they didnt have back then. bread and circuses.

I never realised how much culture means to kids. I'm on the British end, they are part Maori. Clashed with their dad so told them it was his job. They are fluent in Te Reo, Now their dad is. Didn't know it mattered but apparently it does.

Ah bro, picnic is from the frend pique-nique. (I'm not denying that lynchings were used as social events obviously. Just the etymology of picnic x)

The term picnic did not actually come from lynchings, this is a common misapprehension. The term picnic is derived from the French world Piquenique which date backs to the 1690s. The term meant a gathering of people bringing things of their own to share and sample. However, the settings of lynchings were said to be picnic like as lots of people would gather around to see these atrocities.

No you are wrong on picnic. It originates from France and has nothing to do with lynchings, it may have an association in America but it's certainly not how the word originated.

Did you know that homophones were recognized even by people in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s and despite the etymological roots of a word it could be purposely used as a winking reference?
