Silent 16mm containing a series of shots centered around the topic of transportation--a Department of Street Railways bus yard, cars parked in a large rail-side lot, cars in a junkyard, fuel pump close-ups, and traffic on I-94.
The film opens with a series of shots overlooking a group of Department of Street Railways buses parked in a winding cluster in a parking lot--presumably at the Shoemaker Terminal. Several of the buses have c. 1968 advertisements for Old Taylor whiskey on their sides. "Gratiot Third," "Chartered," "Jefferson Express," and a "St. Jean" are the visible route signs posted on the fronts of the buses. The remnants of street car tracks are also visible in the lot.
In the next portion of the reel, the camera pans around a lot densely crowded with cars from an elevated location. A railroad yard is visible in the background..
Next, in a two long pans, the camera films buses parked in garage bays, again presumably at the Shoemaker Terminal. The route signs here include, "Gratiot Express," "Clairmont Warren," "School," "Jefferson Express," "Chartered," "Chartered Express," and "Gratiot Third." Afterward, three buses are filmed simultaneously leaving another set of bays and rounding the corner to proceed through the complex's lot.
A junkyard is the site of the film's next sequence. Here the camera captures stacks of car bodies, a pile of assorted scrap metal, and a crane and fork lift moving cars. Train tracks are visible adjacent to the yard in the background.
Afterward, a series of Wayne fuel pumps' counters are filmed as they ticks upward. Gas is priced at 41¢ and 37¢ per gallon.
Freeways are the subject of the final portion of the reel. First are a series of shots of a traffic jam on westbound I-94, as taken from the ramp from southbound I-75, above the Woodward Avenue/Brush Street exit. Next, from a slowly moving car on westbound I-94, east from the John R overpass, the camera rolls through the windshield. The recording ends as the car carrying the camera approaches the Second Avenue overpass.
The film is on wound on a plastic core, and was stored in a 35mm tin with film 2015.007.098.
