I thought the same. Alan's always smooth and soft-spoken, and the interviewer also had a gentle voice and manner (plus the two seemed to have nice chemistry/rapport). The whole thing was very mellow. Also, it's interesting that this isn't the only DM/ASMR video: the interview that Paul Gambaccini did with them in 1993 has the same vibe. (I know it's weird/random, but two of my biggest loves are DM and ASMR, so a mix of the two is ❤.)

I can tell it’s 1988 because I am a robot and analyzed the entire internet in a matter of seconds with the sole purpose of figuring out when the heck this was recorded. Also the bird sounds remind me of my old friend, Birdy, who also chirped a lot, quite a lot for a human.
