Take a look at disposable bamboo dinnerware and cutlery. More environmentally friendly than paper plates or plastic/styrofoam products. They can be burned in campfires or thrown away with garbage. You should be able to do dishes with minimal water by first wiping them as clean as possible with papertowels that can also go into a campfire. One pint of heated water is all you should need with another pint used for rinsing. Save the water to put out your campfires. Some vanlifers will use a spray bottle that's half vinegar, half water that cleans and sanitizes dishes. Cast iron pots can be cleaned with salt. There may be days you just can't reach a public washroom. I'm a long time tent camper and these are techniques I use.

I can't believe I wasted 3 years watching vanlife videos. I lived in my Jeep Patriot for 9 months (Dec 2021-Aug 2022). I was completely stealth, so my brother was the only one who knew about it. Everything I needed was less than $500; excluding all of the various trial and errors that I had for window coverings. I finally just painted my back and side windows black and put up a curtain up behind the driver seat. Note: If the front is wide open, people will Never assume someone is sleeping in it. I could park in really nice neighborhoods and wake up at 8-9am! I removed the front passenger seat I could stretch out and sleep comfortably on a thick memory foam, and fleece blankets to stay warm even during 40 degrees. One suitcase for clothes, the bin for TP & absorbant horse pellets. A bin for stove & dry foods. An ice chest was a major pain; the ice melted too fast and my food would sit in water...so I just bought cold items as I needed them. Once I learned about OMAD/I.F. it really simplified my cooking & weight loss. I had an amazing Hammock-Chair to read my Bible at the park/beach. Water was only .30 gal. A Gym to shower/exercise, a small storage unit for extra food, clothes, etc. For the past 5 months I've been in an apartment and yes I've enjoyed having plumbing and a refrigerator, but I'd rather spend $600 on gas Averywhere, than $1,300 for rent in only 1 place. Once my lease is up, I'm getting back out again...for good. The only thing that I'll do differently is to remove the back sears to add Solar for a real frig/freezer, and be able to STAY COOL while I sleep during the summer. Q: I wonder if it is possible to use propane to have A/C all night, his heater?

When I started this "van life" I was scared people would not be happy with me parking in front of their house, and I still do. My advise is to find a parking spot on the street, with pleanty of cars so you blend in, make sure it's not in front of a building, like a house or an office, and always be careful that you do not disturb anyone who happens to be around you, no loud music or loud generators; not only because it's annoying but you also don't want to draw attention to yourself, after all you're goal is to stay hidden in plain sight. I also advise you stay FAR away from parking lots like you find at town centers, etc, because those are private properties and they can tow your vehicle if they feel like it.

For a temp solution, add a thin piece of wheat metal with caulking to the rear window and it will make a gutter for the rain.

I built out my van and traveled around the states five years ago solo for 6 months and it was by far the best time in my life. It was my van and that road trip that got me hooked on traveling, but now I travel in my motorhome that has all the conveniences of home and really came in handy during the Covid shut down. Enjoy your travels and adventures, be safe out there.

Sharing love is a beautiful thing when he talks about not having someone to share the experience with and how much better it might be that’s where I think he’s missing something because his little puppy loves him to death and that’s the best companion you could ever have and that puppy put up with a lot to be with him because I’m sure that puppy wished that he might have a yard or a bigger space to sleep in not seeing the puppy is going without pointing out that he already has someone who would literally do anything for him because he loves him so much so don’t lose sight of that. I was an unwilling participant and I have been living in my car which is a Toyota Corolla for the last 5 1/2 years so the time of viewing this video he’s talking about five months. I couldn’t imagine sharing the space with anyone else. A van is a little more roomy but with the amount of stuff that he has it’s too cluttered and why I have storage that you’re not actually needing because you’re just keeping things that you don’t really feel like being bothered with? He should absolutely get rid of all that rebuild the entire bed structure put in some drawers put in a pull out for dog bed so that the dog can be there or even a pull out step so the dog can get on the bed with him and definitely build a small kitchenette he can get a compostable toilet and make a space for that as well he could put it on coasters and roll that sucker out one Asko to the bathroom so it feels a little more like home I would definitely clean it up and get rid of the things that you don’t actually need or use there’s no point in keeping clutter it just makes you feel heavier and the reason for that is because well it’s all energy anyway those are my thoughts I definitely could be a little bit better about organization but I have essentially everything that I need in this vehicle and I have learned that I need almost next to nothing and would be shocking if I moved into a space because I have that little now I do have two storage units and I’m going to liquidate because at some point I decided that I along with other people who weren’t being honest with me were going to get a place together and that never happened so I started accumulating furniture because I wanted to do furniture flipping and not only that I felt it was therapeutic so I ended up with all the stuff that I now have to pay every month for that’s $160 that I could be putting in my pocket. I work every day I’m a rideshare driver sometimes I play hooky for weeks at a time. I have that option and flexibility whereas people who have a place have a revolving debt every month and pay the rent their utilities and then they have all their miscellaneous which is toilet paper and things like that I actually don’t have to pay for those things because whenever I have to go to the bathroom I just go to public place. When I have to shower if I can’t get one at a friend or family‘s house then I’ll go to the truckstop because something about the gym doesn’t make me feel so good so I don’t like going in there with all those people and I’m not interested in any of the other amenities so there’s no point laundromat for laundry I make my own schedule I can work when I want and not work when I don’t want that in the beginning I saw this is being a punishment there are times when the weather is very unbearable and up until recently I didn’t have but everything blanket that doesn’t even fully cover me. I have a homemade pillow that’s organic. I have a 25° sleeping bag now it does occasionally get colder than that when it kind of works like a little cocoon and I keep my car pretty clean for a person who lives in it I have to because of my job but even if it wasn’t for my job I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to stand and get into messy I have almost 368,000 miles on it and she needs a new transmission she needs a new axle in the front and two new shocks but I really couldn’t be more grateful for everything honestly I mean I get to look at nature all day long I get to change my views all day long I don’t have to be here if I don’t wanna be but I stay because my grandkids are here so I’ll know more than a Stones throw away sometimes I go six days from now to shower I have a couple bottles of spray in my car there is very things I have mouthwash and I have a toothbrush and toothpaste if I really need to find an area where I need to go clean up I can do that sometimes I don’t feel like it though but I never stink I keep wipes in my car that way if I need to freshen up a bit I can and I’m a 53-year-old woman the whole thing Started when my narcissistic boyfriend threw me out at a gas station and I became immediately houseless but I do have a heart therefore I will always have a home My car was vandalized overnight back in the spring time I was sleeping it was about 2:30 in the morning and I was in Walmart parking lot which unfortunately isn’t always safe because I’ve even been stocked but these kids decided they were bored so they were gonna try to bust out my front window well they’re not designed that way so it wasn’t really possible but when I walked by my car their attempts to break my front window woke me up I didn’t stop them from trying to break the back window which they were quite successful at that point when I heard the pallet hit my window and everything started to shatter before it started falling to the car I was already sitting up and it was too late I think in that case I probably would’ve laid on the horn and scare them and they would’ve ran they would never had attempted to break my back window but it was a very expensive learning curve they were never caught I did chase them down and they ran it by the time the cops came which was an hour later I was said and done and I ended up at a pocket $400 which people think rideshare people make a lot of money we don’t we make $.60 a mile at least I do and it’s not even the money it’s the principle of this thing so for me a tiny home would be more ideal that’s what I would really love on my own piece of property rain water harvest solar panels growing my own food making my own plant medicine and being out here doing what I enjoy doing without having to think about the cost of living and having more space to do it in like a proper bathroom a proper bed so I can actually recline all the way because I can’t do that in this vehicle I can’t take my backseat out because I need it for my customers and my crates take up a lot of room but I can fit a decent size luggage in here for people going to the airport. All in all it’s been a decent experience and even though there have been some times where it’s been really really frustrating or a little bit scary I pretty much didn’t have to worry about feeling unprotected because I would do whatever would be necessary but things will happen in life and it’s really how you feel about it that makes the difference. I definitely handled them breaking my window very well comparatively speaking. They were a little frightened when they saw me charging down the parking lot with my car and then being on foot and hopefully they’ll feel discouraged ever do that again because they definitely were not expecting me to be in my vehicle. Some people think while they got away with it OK that’s what it looks like but at the same time we answer for everything we do and don’t do so I try to be a better version of myself every single day We can focus on other people and turn that in on ourselves or we can focus on being a greater version and spread that outwardly Gandhi did say be the change in the world you wish to see in though I’m not perfect I definitely do my best

Hi. One tip. Propane is heavier than air, which means it pools on the bottom of the van and works it's way up. I am glad you have a detector, but put it some place lower than the bed, so you get an early warning before the gas rises to where you are in bed instead of on the shelf where it will go off after the gas has already reached you in bed.. Happy travels.

^^^^^ this. Just sold my class C and it had a detector in the back bedroom and it was close to the floor for this reason.

High roof. I have had both low and high. Since I got high top vans I’ll not go back to low again. Just being able to stand up to put your pants on is enough benefit for me. Only downside I’ve ever found is the height and some parking garages, other than that it’s all good.
