Maybe the parachutes proved that over driving a car will give you slower lap times. The chutes just forced you guys to drive a bit slower which actually will improve your lap times instead.
@TheHoonigans5 жыл бұрын
Exactly
@dakdewolf5 жыл бұрын
Maybe that, OR they didn't do any practice laps and were just naturally getting faster. Most people can pick up about 5-10% in lap times over the first few laps.

Why all the hating on the Crossfire? Especially by all the couch racers that have probably never driven one, just as I haven't! It's basically a Mercedes SLK, 6 speed manual, RWD, goes around corners, does burnouts with big skins, is cheap & decent looking in my opinion! What's not to like!
@lb9gta3075 жыл бұрын
I always thought they were good looking cars minus the ribs on the hood and silver trim around the windshield. Hated dealing with the German engineering from a repair/maintenance standpoint. They were fun to drive though.

It’s good but it’s ugly
@stuartreilly965 жыл бұрын
@@octane613 It may be ugly and a wombo combo of german complication and chrysler unreliability, but I've gotta say, it's still a rwd v6 with a 6 speed, and those chrysler/daimler v6s are pretty bulletproof. Just sold our '03 E320 that had 180,000 miles (bought at 106,000) and we only did oil changes and a serpentine belt. Still ran flawlessly and could get 32 MPG averaging 86mph.
@petergriffin46295 жыл бұрын
My dad bought an SLK 320 6 speed manuel for me and my bro as our first car. It's definately not as bad as some people say, but it consumes a lot of fuel for not being fast, it understeers like shit, I mean like real bad. So if you want to do some donuts you have to use the handbrake or really twirl it around cause driving in a circle and popping the clutch just makes it understear somewhere, even in the rain. And they fitted the legendary Mercedes Benz grandpa wobbly steering to it. It has play, it's the opposite of progressive. But for the money you pay, ours was 7000€ you get a rwd V6 with 200hp, AC, cruise control a decent stereo and you can drive without a roof. So I loved it.

I think that the real reason why you guys where faster with the parachutes, is that you're driving faster when the timer starts. With the control laps, you started like 20 meters (yes I'm European) in front of the starting line. So you never have the speed that you'll have after the whole straight. Maybe you guys had to make 2 control laps instead of 1 lap. But keep up the good work! I'm enjoying all the content!

Yeah obviously this wasn't to be taken too serious like a mythbusters test. That being said I'm sure the lap times were better with the parachutes because it forced them to not overdrive the car. Without it they were sliding around the track like crazy losing time.

Another angle... The way that the chutes were set up with a cantilever to the body, likely made the car understeer a LOT less than it did in stock form by shifting weight off the front tires during cornering like a swaybar or spring change would.
@anthonyhobbs47245 жыл бұрын

@30psiCTR5 жыл бұрын
Holy shit, you guys actually beat the brakes off the crossfire
@jamesherrick19995 жыл бұрын
This didn't work as expected because the parachutes drag force cantilevered the yellow frame arrangement towards the rear of the car thus pressing down on the rear of the car. Just like a big chav wing would do. mount them at bumper height and it will drag straight back on the body of the car and not apply rotational force to the frame. Which will slow you down.

That result is all related to where the chutes were mounted. You basically created a long lever arm that was pulling the back of the car down and adding lateral stability. The extra drag wasn't a factor on such a short track. Try that at a full size road course and the results would be much different.
