I think a more accurate test of this theory would be to put weights inside of a car and take them out 100lbs at a time. Aerodynamics of the car change completely every time you remove and exterior panel. I enjoy the test and the concept however. At least someone took the time to do it in any manner to show the legitimacy of losing weight as an alternative to gaining power. So thank you for making it, would love to see it again with a more accurate presentation if you guys get the time.

Still kinda proves a point here, but just for the sake of argument: 1) Since the car is already in motion and at speed by the end of the 1/8th, you can't just simply double the times or expectations to carry out to the 1/4. It would translate a bit differently 2) Some of the components they remove are affecting aerodynamics, which will affect the amount of wind resistance the car has to overcome especially on the top end.

There's a lot of X factors at play, though, that keeps this from being 100% accurate. 1) taking off the bodywork, especially the doors, really hurts the aerodynamics and can hurt the time by 1-2 tenths on its own even in a 1/8 mile. 2) even with an automatic and the same driver, no drag runs are perfectly consistent and about .15 seconds is literally an eyeblink, so expecting perfectly consistent results is unreasonable. 3) the base weight of the car is a big factor in determining how much 100 lbs will affect it. 100 lbs. on a 4000+ lb car matters less than it would in a 2000 lb Lotus Elise as the percent of total weight removed is less. It's possible that in an open wheel car that weighs around 1000 lbs it would make *more* than .1 second difference for each 100 lbs. Bottom line: the 100 lbs=.1 seconds is just a rough rule of thumb, not a universal constant for the reasons stated above.

Why do you think you typically see veteran racers (with street tires) drive around the burnout box? If the back glass acted like that much of a parachute it would affect all of the runs after the doors are removed and not just the one with a burnout.

Drag is negligible at low speeds. Also....removing the doors does NOT increase the drag, really. There is no airflow through the car unless you remove the rear and/or front windows. Can't forget that without a lot of those doors and body panels, the wind resistance increases a ton

Aerodynamics play a roll. Once you remove the doors, wind pressure more easily pushes the car back

@wmc1285 жыл бұрын
Ryobi is owned by TTI, same company that makes Milwaukee power tools. A drill driver is same as most brands some have better performance than others but each will do same job.

The front doors on a police car below the armrest part is bulletproof there’s armor plating in them to help keep officers from getting shot in the lower part of their body and there’s Kevlar in the back part of the front seats That make them stab proof so that nobody in the back seat can stab them If they had a knife and wanted to Do harm to an officer
@alecfleming3736 жыл бұрын
mike quinn I didn't know this. Thats kinda cool!
@nothing2see3156 жыл бұрын
There's a metal partition between the front and back seats usually
@nothing2see3156 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure i see that partition on this car as well

Don't forget about air resistance because as you strip out the doors bumpers and stuff the air resistance changes

The joys of proper weight reduction in an effort to gain performance are endless, but I so wish I could drop 1000 pounds out of most cars in a reasonable way. I absolutely loved the test, great work!
