as someone who has bpd, I completely understand where Amber is coming from and her intentions when she says she wants to resolve things instead of running away from the issue. Unfortunately she doesn't understand that she's unwell and doesn't know how to communicate properly which is why they end up back in this cycle. Johnny is doing the proper thing. When I'm triggered like that, I stop myself from behaving this way by walking away and reseting for a couple hours. If I'm too blinded by my rage, I have asked my parter to remind me to walk away until we can communicate properly. So he was 100% correct in wanting to do that. But again, she doesn't seem to understand that that needs to be done in order to be able to resolve things. It's sad hearing this, I hope she gets the help she very obviously needs. I would also like to add that before I knew I had bpd, I acted very similar to the way she does (without the physical violence) and I will agree with her when she says that him just walking away when she's triggered will make things worse. Since she doesn't have the proper tools to be able to de escalate the situation herself, or even understand that what she's doing is wrong, walking away will further trigger her abandonment issues. It takes a lot to realize that the way you behave is toxic. And it takes a lot of work to be able to handle bpd. And of course, the bpd isn't an excuse and she should face the consequences of her actions.

@atinity67492 жыл бұрын
I have little bit sympathy for those statements because I was in an abusive relationship where my partner did drugs and tried to hide it from me. He beat me and gaslight me. We never had normal conversations, everything was arguing all the time because I was so traumatized and he was high and defensive. Anyway, I hated when he left in the middle of the argument. It felt like he just dropped all this shit in my lap, said something shocking or rude and when I tried to make sense of it all, he'd said that I'd make him feel stressed and he needed to leave because I was being so negative or hysterical. I felt like there was ants inside my skin, I felt so uncomfortable because all those unresolved issues were buzzing inside my head and I got no resolution until he came back, which was the next day after drinking all night, or worse, he might disappear on a bender. I'm in healthy relationship now but we never really fight so much that the other person needs to take break or get some distance, so I don't really know how it looks in a healthy relationship. If my husband said he needed few hours to clear his head I don't think I would have a problem with that. I could get a trigger response and feel that fear of abandonment, but I don't think so. I'm pretty well adjusted, nightmares are quite rare at this point. But AH and JD were in a toxic relationship, JD did drugs so maybe Amber really felt like JD just leaves him when she's most vulnerable. She claimed that he says he just needs few minutes but it's always more than that... so does he just disappear? And for how long? Also, if your partner is vulnerable, scared, crying... isn't it a little bit cold to just up and leave? Like you could reassure them at least that you care about their well-being even if you're in a fight right now. That being said, it does feel like AH is using this "please don't leave me" as a manipulation tactic, but I also can give her the benefit of a doubt and say that there can be huge fear of abandonment, and it can feel really cruel if JD always leaves her in the middle of the fight, especially if he just leaves for hours or days!

JD ("When we argue you tend to throw punches"), AH ("I'm not talking about when we get physical, I'm talking about when we argue"), JD ("Yeah, but..."), AH ("I'm talking about arguments, I'm talking about argument, I'm talking about arguments"). It doesn't get more circular than that. AH wants JD to stay and 'argue', but JD hates how the arguments tend to get physical on her part. She skirts the issue by only wanting to talk about the arguments (verbal) rather than address the physicality. In short, he's a bad guy for not staying despite the obvious discomfort, and any attempt to address what causes the discomfort is avoided. There's basically no way for him to get to any kind of resolution. On and on it goes. Oh, and the supposedly 'abused' is maintaining the circle to trap their 'abuser', who is just trying to address the physicality of the arguments for everyone's benefit. Multiply those arguments, injuries and addiction over the course of years and it becomes easy to understand why JD testified to feeling like he was going insane.

@@JLynnEchelon No I do not believe that Ben King would forget a painting that been defaced. A huge part of working in millionaires homes is ensuring the assets they leave lying around are safe and in good condition. This includes Art and Antiques which despite being incredibly valubale are often put on display in high traffic areas. If there was damage to the art- especially something so visually striking like a penis- he would probably rememeber it. Maybe it was on one of the paintings King mentioned done by Heard and Depp while in residence? King didn't testify to damage done to these if any 🤷🏻♀️

The description on her arms that Ben is giving sound very much like what someone who self harms/cuts looks like as they’re usually fairly uniform, spaced like Ben described, & not jagged at all. I would think that if she sustained them in a physical altercation with JD, that uniform would not apply. The pictures later were hard to see, but forearms are the most common place for people who self harm to cut. I say this as a licensed psychotherapist who has worked w/ many clients over the years who have self-harmed. A large number of those clients have significant abandonment issues. I know it sounds crazy that Johnny drew on the wall with his blood. But after I had been beaten by my ex with BPD a so many times when they would draw blood I sometimes found it so comforting to just let it bleed everywhere I could instead of trying to bandage it up so they could sit with the consequences of what they had done and have a lasting reminder instead of just moving on and acting like they had done nothing wrong. Maybe me and Johnny are both insane but it feels like the only way to get back some power in that situation and I don’t regret it at all.

It's also very common when we are injured (and even more so when we are under the influence or have lived in a state of elevated stress for a long time due to abuse) to enter a dissociative state as a response. Literally letting yourself bleed or leaving some kind of physical mark behind is a form of grounding; it's a way to try and return to reality so we can comprehend our situation.

Like she was warning him that things were going to go down if she had to say it again. I grew up in a household where if my moms wanted us in our rooms, instant transmission style, she would say it in this similar fashion. Like "Room! Room! Room! Rewatching this after watching Amber’s testimony. Johnny’s recollections seem way more genuine. The only thing I think he ever downplays is how much he drinks. I think he’s embarrassed about it honestly, not even the drugs so much. It’s the drinking he can’t seem to admit is a bit out of control. Still the way he talks to her is always very calm. You can tell the audio they have of him yelling is like him at his last straw where she’s just pushed and pushed. He clearly takes his aggression out on inanimate objects and I think maybe he does have a destructive side, but because of suffering abuse as a child he just focuses his anger at anything but a person.

I can only imagine how difficult, and at times, shameful that he is having to put his most private parts of life on the world stage. A person truly being abused DOES NOT antagonize the abuser, they want to do anything to avoid a confrontation! JD told her when he was going to record her, she recorded him without telling him. I don't understand why her secret recordings were allowed with the way the law is in the state that this is being tried.
