My best friend had Borderline personality disorder. The expert testimony broke my heart. My BFF is not violent but knowing that her bouts of depression and highs and extreme switch between emotions - and realizing it’s due to fear of abandonment, broke my heart. I love her to pieces and we’ve been best friends for 20 years. My heart just breaks that I’m just now finding out that this is how she feels and what she deals with, for the first time. 20 years. She’s tried to explain and I’ve always been understanding. But getting further depth, it’s like a lightbulb.

This is one of a few compassionate responses I've seen regarding BPD. I too have a best friend that I strongly feel suffers from BPD (though in keeping with the disorder, sometimes we are best friends, sometimes we are not). It does indeed make me sad as well because even though the behaviors are often harmful and destructive to the people around them, they are also often loveable and joyful people.

I disagree with the notion of going easy on Amber Heard. Are you kidding? This woman is going to kill someone. She attacked Johnny on their Honeymoon, on a plane, in Australia - and it's all documented visually in photos. She is vicious and Johnny is lucky he didn't get killed in his sleep. I don't appreciate all the talking over the witnesses, it's very distracting. For that reason I won't subscribe to this channel.

I think what is missed here is that Amber has two diagnosis’ 1.BPD 2. Histrionic Personality Disorder I beg people to please research Histrionics. This is where Ambers personality differs from just BPD. Histrionics are a completely different ball game.

On the flip side though your BFF could enter therapy in order to control those behaviours, thats her responsibility. The diagnosis isn't an excuse for bad behaviour, it's an explanation.

I struggled with it. I was trained under a forensic psych and have sat through so many trials… Sadly this was not a terribly advanced explanation or a balanced description of the disorders or their impact. Most of all it was shocking to hear her say people with BPD are more prone to violence because every individual paper and systematic review absolutely disputes this…. I was shaking my head pretty badly.

After seeing Dr. Hughes’ testimony with her whole “post it” situation and then coming back to rewatch this…the difference is night and day! Dr Curry seems so much more credible, like she really knows what she is talking about. Dr Hughes seemed like she crammed for her final the night before but thought it was going to be an open book test. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Totally agree Sarah, and also the difference in their attitudes. Dr. Hughes seemed offended when the prosecution would question her, almost like ‘how dare you not realize I am the authority on all things psychological’ whereas Dr Curry takes a question as a teaching opportunity and completely holds her calm composition when the defense comes off as abrasive and challenging. Dr. Hughes seemed to accuse that Dr Curry didn’t interpret the tests correctly, didn’t know what she was talking about. It probably didn’t help her ego when she was mistakenly called Dr Curry several times…

@@whathappened1284 omg when Elaine called Dr Huges Dr. Curry, not once, but twice I was cackling 😂🤣 and the facepalm after the first one was pretty priceless as well. While Dr. Hughes’ resume had me quite impressed, seeing her actually testify had me questioning how she got her credentials in the first place and if I’m doing that I can only assume that the jury is also. The fact Dr Curry was able to give her entire testimony from memory and Dr Hughes could barely go 10 seconds without glancing at her notes really drives that point home too. To me she has a large bias to assume men are usually the perpetrators and women the victim. I wish JD’s team would have asked her if she had ever testified in defense of a male who had violence perpetrated against them by a female. The way she told AH’s story as if it was fact and she had seen it with her own eyes was just appalling to me and so unprofessional. I firmly believe that Dr Curry would have reported any findings that could have been seen as damaging to JD’s case if she had found any based on how she testified. I do not believe Dr. Hughes would have done the same.
@Cafe_Es_Bueno

Agreed. Even though Dr Curry is naturally likeable, you can feel there was a complete level of professionalism. By the book, the results are there and anyone can verify. I couldn’t be diagnosed at that age, but I WAS able to work on improving my interactions with others, understand my brain a bit better, and learned how to regulate my emotions (which will always be something I’m working on). I see myself in amber (when I’m unable to regulate my emotions), and am thankful I got help before I was technically supposed to because I don’t want to think how awful I’d be if I hadn’t. Emily as someone who’s avoided conflict with a partner who showed personality disorders similar to those you’ve mentioned in the context of this case, I’m very grateful to you for the explanations you’ve given about the need and right for compassion. Both partners suffer immensely, and while the diagnoses do not constitute an excuse they do and should help us understand where Amber is coming from and why JD took so long to come to public about the abuse he suffered. Yes it does happen that love happens to people struggling with PTSD in different, often irreconcilable ways. Compassion, though not to be mistaken for subjection, is urgent.

So I'm someone who suffered from very similar treatment to what Amber Heard is alleged to have done to Johnny Depp. As soon as I heard that the art supplies was all over the backyard I had to know who the artist was. My ex used to trash my art supplies. Paintings, materials whatever. It made me happy and feel self-assured so he had to destroy it. Google it and sure enough Johnny Depp is also a painter. So her trashing his art supplies, pretty consistent with everything else that is alleged. I feel like even as a rich person there's no reason to trash your own art supplies. Like if your the tortured artist type trash your own painting you know? Why take it out on mineral spirits and paint brushes? Anyone who paints treasures they're good brushes. Even if you buy the exact same brush it's not necessarily exactly the same. Trust me we become very attached to like three or four brushes. No artist is going to just throw them in the yard because of a fight. That's like the art version of sacrilege.

@@hazelangus i think the context is important. in a case like this it’s basically just a blatant attempt to attack and discredit every person that works for him as a liar because they work for him when if he was truly abusive not many people would defend or lie under oath to defend that, let alone when every person that testifies comes off as honest and share very consistent accounts of what went on in reality. it’s amber and her defense twisting and manipulating reality to paint their own nightmarish canvas and any of the witnesses who are not crazy people paint a very different picture, their only trick is to attack them and imply conspiracy between them and depp. but, let’s not talk about how much that crone and the rest of her defense team is being paid by amber to manipulate reality on her behalf, and their credibility, let’s focus on the credibility of anyone that johnny depp pays to manage his property, be his security or childhood friends. even though they must be getting at least what that island manager makes or more for this single trial otherwise it wouldn’t be worth this career suicide. but the legal system is dumb. what they’re doing is literally an ad hominem fallacy and has the express purpose of obscuring the truth in favor of a twisted contortion of reality that no one but amber knows the real johnny and everyone that tells the truth about what they’ve experienced with them is in the pocket of big johnny, and yet it’s allowed in a courtroom. outrageous and disgusting conduct by the defense, they should be ashamed

Thank you for pointing out that the diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder does not mean that Amber is a bad person. I was diagnosed 10 years ago and it is a very difficult burden to bear. You can overcome it, but it is a very difficult and painful thing that tears you down to the deepest core of who you are. If you think “I love you, go away or I hate you don’t leave me” that is what it comes down to. BPD tend to build up walls as tall as they can to protect themselves. They tend to be the ones that suffer from childhood abuse of any kind. A fear of never being good enough for anyone and being abandoned. I am not team Amber, but I do have a lot of compassion for anyone dealing with BPD.

Watching different channels reactions to that testimony is difficult. I know, from my poor sweet unbelievably strong and loving husband, dealing with a BPD person is HARD! I still have to remind myself that I may not be seeing things the way they really are and always go thru a checklist in my mind before I react to anything. If Johnny loses this case I’ll be sad for him, but I’m already so glad to see BPD brought out and talked about. It’s a cruel joke on the person that deals with it. Again, don’t come for me, I’m not on her side, but ugh, it’s just so hard to hear those things about yourself in private, I can’t imagine it being broadcast for the whole world. I hope she sees the truth for herself and puts in the work to reign herself in, cuz she’s the only one that really can.

As Emily said while Dr. Curry was explaining personality disorders, the diagnoses of BPD and HPD are explanations of behaviors but not excuses. Having one disorder or the other, or even a combination of them, does not exclusively mean you will be an abusive person. There is still a level of accountability to be taken that has nothing to do with the disorders, especially when taking into consideration the moments of manipulative speech, the calculative setups such as the kitchen recording and the audio recording of her challenging JD to claim himself as a DV victim with notion that no one would believe him because of his gender. Amber Heard may need psychological help, and we can hope that she gets it, but she still needs to be held accountable for her conscious decisions and actions. A diagnosis does not make her exempt from personal accountability nor should the actions be directly related to the majority of those who are diagnosed with these disorders.

I know a few people (have had them as clients) with BPD and all of them behaved in similar ways in their personal intimate relationships and could not maintain friendships over the long term because of their insecurities, jealousies, accusations, being unfaithful themselves… it’s the hallmark of a borderline personality to have volatile unsteady personal relationships and being unable to maintain long term relationships. And yes, it seems beyond their ability to control their feelings and reactions to those feelings. And yes everyone I knew with this diagnoses would create drama, have abusive even violent tendencies (against others or themselves- had one client stab her boyfriend and attempt suicide on a few occasions) and yes they will make false accusations, plot elaborate schemes to get the other to prove their love or loyalty or exact revenge (mental illness doesn’t mean they are stupid)… so while she will be held accountable as she should and her worst fears are coming true - exposure and abandonment - which will be one measure of consequences, her inability to control her emotions and disordered behaviors will hopefully be taken into consideration at sentencing. She is very very psychologically ill.

Oh she definitely needs help. Her little jerks during the “cabinets being slammed” was very sad because it was very clear that she was “acting”. In almost any but the worst types of mental illness the person absolutely still needs to be held accountable for their behavior. You have to own your own issues and once pointed out, you need to deal with them. Breaking someone else is not excusable. Destroying a career, a lifetime of achievement is wrong in so many ways. I don’t want anyone to think that you get a free ride when you get a diagnosis. All you really get is a chance to learn from your mistakes and how to reign your anger and anxiety in. I am pro Johnny all the way. I didn’t even know who she was until this all started. Dr. Curry is amazing and hope Amber gets her head on straight after hearing Dr. C.

I am an expert on hair and makeup. I owned and operated my salon ans Dayspa for 20 years I worked in the field for 35 years... I formulate products. I am an award winning makeup artist because of my formulations and artistry. I have a degree in science in Natura health. I also was planning a weeding in the Bahamas at the Ocean Club/Atlantis...I went there every year in December to January and a few times for events I can assure the humidity and heat was far too much for me and we decided to have the Wedding in Florida which was still humid but more manageable. The Schvitz is real down there it's a walking steam bath I cannot see a bride taking that chance with her dress unless she had 2 dresses... Her makeup pallette to cover bruises is not ideal. I am very well aquainted with that wheel in several brands.. Usually they are made from the same handful of companies They use that on dark circles under eyes and ok the pigments do correct some lighter problems BUT they are not opaque enough to cover bruises...Also the heat and humidity would melt that off, it blooms and turns darker. It would DEFINITELY be noticeable and not look natural I do have extensive experience in this... One example was a mother of a bride that had bad bruises on her face from a car accident and several clients with port wine stains any many with melasma... I have even had clients with face cuts and scars I use liquid latex to cover for photos etc. The color neutralizing concealer works to a certain extent but it's not enough. Opposites on the color wheel neutralize each other.. That is color law. If you use yellow to neutralize purple aka a bruise... It browns out. Especially in heat. If it's a lighter bruise and you have an excellent skin tone concealer and foundation you can get away with it but if it's dark it doesn't look natural. It will look brown... Some try orange over a blue bruise that also browns out... It looks like makeup especially on someone as pale as she is.. It does work better on someone with olive skin or darker complectio or tanned skin. On very pale skin.. This would not be enough... It would be noticeable... If she had a team and other products to help her. She should have stated that... She was trying to sound like an expert with a product that honestly would not be enough Especially in the humidity and heat What does work Is white makeup like clown makeup... With titanium dioxide in it to make it opaque... It covers a bruise and it looks white. Powder it in I used a special white powder I mixed myself to prevent color bloom ... And then apply a flesh tones concealer over it...but that can pull up the makeup if you are not careful... I used Airbrush Makeup over that. So you don't move the product around.. In the heat makeup melts, blooms and sweat will make you want to wipe your face.. Also facial bruises usually have some swelling. This makes the area look raised and the pores can look enlarged... The heat and humidity can make that worse I assume Amber had a team of experts helping her... Even so she would know that this is a process that takes time between each layer. Not just a light concealer. She would need something along the lines of theatrical makeup or very high coverage But when she showed what she used... If I were on her team there would be no wayyy I would let her show up with just that wheel. She is an actress she has access to special effects artists... They are amazing We know Johnny is the King of actors who special effects makeup. So why would she pick something we know is not enough for severe bruises. I question her completely. Personally all I am hearing in her testimony and others was.. Johnny wanted to walk away during a fight and she couldn't handle it. She got physical trying to keep him there. Also what was that couch couch couch audio we heard in another day of testimony... She treated him like a dog.. A literal dog.. She was degrading. We hear him time and again beg to be let go. He sounds like the one afraid and abused...

But months later I wanted to rewatch it with your commentary because I value your insight. I can’t thank you enough for your voice of reason and compassion regarding mental illness and how it’s not ok for us to judge and condemn. It’s natural to be upset at what AH did but we still have to remember that underneath the ick is a human being who needs help. Remembering this helped me forgive the woman who did this to me and it helps me to recover from my own BPD. We all need to remember that abused children do not grow up to act functionally and healthy. In that sentence alone we can all find some tolerance and compassion for the little girls and boys who grew up to have addictions, personality disorders, etc. and that’s also my story. 💜

It's hard to listen to. As a Psychotherapist listening, there is so much projection going on and manipulation from A. It's sad the damage that has been done and hoping all sides can get closure and move on ...........❤️❤️☮️🙏🎶🦋Yes, really makes sense with psychological explanation by Dr. of A.

I’m psychologist in training and I’m not diagnosing anything but i was having a hard time as well because of the huge contrast in animation from ah vs minimal animation in jd reactions. It was truly painful to hear.

I have BPD. seeing some of the things I've seen in the past 24 hours was difficult. I've often said that I wouldn't wish the "BPD spiral" on my worst enemy. the recordings of Amber crying as Johnny tries to leave hit different when you can put yourself there and feel that desperation in a different way. but I can also remember a partners face as I physically blocked the bedroom door. there are truly no winners in a relationship with a person who has untreated/uncontrolled BPD. you can medicate the symptoms of BPD, but it's not like bi-polar disorder where just medication can kind of keep you leveled. I was on FIVE psychiatric medications at one point and still self harming and struggling. BPD is painful, even when you're inflicting pain too. that all being said, I've never said or done something hateful and not immediately had regret over my behavior. I have broken things, thrown things, hurt people and then literally sobbed with shame and regret for my anger three minutes later. it feels like an out of body experience to not be able to regulate your emotions in that moment, but to know it's not right or ok. the amount of work I had to do on myself for myself was substantial. I couldn't get therapy and had to work to become mindful and I feel like a different person often now. there are of course still things that literally "trigger" me, but I've learned to handle myself so much better. a person has to know they need to put in the work. when I was diagnosed, the psychiatrist didn't even tell me. I was at a psychiatric urgent care center and they just put it in my chart. the RELIEF it gave me to have answers about years of emotional dysregulation was crazy. but you have to WANT the answers. you have to WANT better. and after that diagnosis, what you do with it is up to you. when I watch her reaction to this, I don't see discomfort the way others do. Amber looks angry to me... frustrated, smug, bored even. I don't understand why she wouldn't want to help herself and get better. maybe that's the HPD, which I don't think I can relate to at all. I would love to have the information and resources she does. I would love to have this kind of evaluation, of course without it being broadcast to the world. I don't think she's a monster, but I don't understand her level of manipulation and seemingly refusing any accountability. even st my worst, I always apologized for the things I did and felt awful.

Brave of you to help us understand this BPD condition better. I think AH didn’t go into her childhood much due to some things that may have happened that made her disorder emerge. We should have compassion and empathy for all. But lying and continuing to hurt her former husband is wrong. I hope she finds help and healing. Sounds like you have worked hard to find out why you are the way you are. Good for you! ❤

Today was so entertaining! Johnny Depp has the best witnesses. They are all just cool people doing their jobs. Ben was great, love the Island Manager, the psychiatrist was outstanding! The cop was even chill yea I went didn’t see anything and left. Adding up to Johnny winning! I hope he gets his name cleared and get his life back!

I tried to watch the LegalBytes coverage, and... they kept saying Dr. Curry was stigmatizing mental illness, and that her testimony was "not a good look." I... don't understand people sometimes

I was diagnosed with C-PTSD after multiple evals, including 6 hrs with a neuropsychologist. BPD can be misdiagnosed initially as PTSD because both have emotion dysregulation, but further testing clarifies. That’s how Heard could have been diagnosed PTSD mistakenly.
