The new normal Stadium build: $3 billion Stadium life: 20 years Who pays for it: taxpayers Net worth of the team playing there: $1.5 billion or greater. If the owners want a new stadium, they should pay for ALL of it, not the taxpayer.

That isn't true any more, there are a ton of jets fans all over the NY area, especially in NJ. The days of the Jets being mostly queens and Long Island ppl is long gone. Growing up in NJ I was a rare Jets fan , these days there are a lot of fans there. Doesn't mean I think.swanp stadium is great, just that wherever they put it some ppl are going to be inconvenienced. Getting to Flushing isn't easy even from long Island, thanks to all the Robert Moses perpetual traffic jams ie the lie, northern state, southern. State and grand central/ bqe.

No! First, they own half of Metlife and the Giants have no reason to buy them out. Second, I recall when the Personal Seat Licenses were being sold the Jets did not sell all of theirs so they probably have a mortgage still outstanding in New Jersey. Third, they draw almost a full-house on game day; the billion dollars for a new stadium might better be placed in Mr Johnson's bank account. Fourth, this is a relatively new building with mostly acceptable amenities. Finally, came you please post any articles that suggest this is in the process of happening?

It is generic. It doesn't offer fans any more than giants stadium did, it was all designed for the corporate box crwd, that is where most of the money went. They also screwed up the parking, it used to be easy to park there. Now they have reserved parking, and they totally screwed up access thanks to the ugly pile of crap next door, American Nightmare. Once they started building that they redid the roads and it was awful. Not to mention the cost of parking is sometimes more expensive then the ticket I bought. 60 bucks, 70 bucks?

The Hudson yards stadium fell through because of the Dolans using their clout and bribes to get politicians to block it,especially Sheldon silver, who was powerful and blocked it ( he went to jail for corruption). Hudson yards was the old plan (which is a bad plan, there is too much on Manhattan for travel to Midtown to be a good idea). This new plan is speculation that the Mets would help them build a stadium in Willets Point (which is a bad confluence of traffic surrounded by neighborhoods who generally dont watch football). A brooklyn location along the Belt would also be hard to sell.

There is a huge difference between artificial turf and natural grass. I played football all through college and everyone i played on art. turf i could feel it in my knees by halftime and all of my lower joints would be sore until at least the next day. In college you're young so i could imagine how it would feel for late 20s - early 30s with all the miles those guys already have on their joints

They've already started building the infrastructure for the new MLS stadium. They already have plans to erect a mix use neighborhood around the new stadium. Cohen wants to build a new casino in the Citi Field parking lot. There's a lot of red tape with the city before that can even get approved. It may or may not happen. So a new Jets stadium in Flushing Meadow is VERY unlikely atm. As a lifelong Queens resident, I don't want either.

Where exactly is the available land in Queens to build an NFL stadium? The approved NYCFC stadium is getting affordable housing built around it. If approved the Mets parking lots would be cluttered with a casino, garages, and a park. Land is scarce The Jets already heavily invested in their training facilities in NJ. MetLife Stadium is getting a natural grass field for the world cup. The stadium itself is plain but the location really is perfect near several highways + public transit. How is it that these brand-new "state-of-the-art" stadiums become so obsolete in a short amount of time?
@NimbusBrain
@NimbusBrain 8 ай бұрын
"Obsolete" has nothing to do with the shortcomings of the stadium. The biggest problem is a design flaw regarding the escalators. They should, as with the old stadium, be dedicated by level - one for the upper bowl, one for the middle, one for the lower. Instead, the escalators serve all levels. If you are in the upper bowl, you get on the escalator, get off, then walk to the next escalator, which serves a lower bowl and repeat the process. This causes desperate overcrowding as all the lower bowls merge with the crowd from the upper bowls. This has to be managed by throttling access to the escalators, forcing people to use the stairs, which are not friendly to the elderly or physically challenged. The escalators will become extremely dangerous if overloaded, because when you reach the bottom, the crowd may not be moving due to the merging, so you will either be ground up by the escalator or go crashing into the back of the crowd at the bottom. So if the Jets can get out of there, congrats!

On the surface, the idea seems excessive. However, the Jets have always been the "other" team at MetLife. If they had their own stadium, it could be a huge upgrade over MetLife. We're talking about a dome. It could be the "Queens palace" where events are held year-round. International soccer games, concerts, conventions, Super Bowls. Imagine a Super Bowl in New York, because of the dome, every decade. National conventions more and more frequent. It would be THE destination for live concerts, where performers would conclude a tour with a massive show. And the Jets would have a home of their own, the same as 29 other teams. There could be some public funding, but this would be a venue that instead of sitting idle like so many stadiums, would make money$$$. However, a dome is a necessity.

The new soccer stadium is already under construction as the land where the junkyards and auto repair shops has already been cleared out. I’m ecstatic as a jets fan on Long Island but I don’t buy it. I could be wrong but what’s the incentive for the jets to spend more when fans will show up regardless of the stadium? Second, there’s at least 10 stadiums in the area. Will the residents be fine with stadiums popping up left and right? Lastly, probably more importantly, where is this stadium going? The Citi field area already feels tight, add an MLS stadium, and an NFL one, and it just doesn’t seem possible. Again, not an expert, but that’s how it feels. Unless the jets team up with NYCFC and the MLS approves a joint stadium, which I know the MLS prefers soccer specific. Or they can sell them on making NYC the largest, premier soccer stadium for the national team as well. I’m rambling, although how unlikely, it’s good news as a jets fan. Come back home.
