Oh, right! One more thing about the sacrifices/costs of joining an agency; your content does not belong to you unless it's stated otherwise in your contract. Compile every piece of knowledge you'd like to share in this comment thread;

Even Callie's music? I knew they got a cut but also the whole copyright too!? Though I at least understand the IP of the model and likeness of the vtuber belongs to Cover. We have a direct case study of Kizuna Ai as how that works.
@Blue_Spirit7
@Blue_Spirit7 2 жыл бұрын
@@ceresbane I believe its common in every corporation that what is done by a employee in working hours belongs to the company, in Calli's music my guess would be that either she graduates but still gets a cut from music streaming OR it goes the Rushia way and it all gets nuked, OR maybe even the Coco way and it's just there, standing, menacingly.
@ceresbane
@ceresbane 2 жыл бұрын
@@Blue_Spirit7 I wonder if Coco still gets royalties. If I recall Japanese law in particular, the creator has certain privileges. The only extent I know is you need permission from a manga or book author to use the story or characters in the book. Technically no fee needed but its often agreed that you pay a fee to be given the permission. So with that in mind, surely musicians have some kinda authorial ownership of their music. And Japanese artists have the right to give or deny permission in using their music in stuff.

Oh god yes, be sure to thoroughly study the licensing terms related to your contract. And if you intend to invest a lot of your own money (and/or your viewers'), try to negotiate/buy as much ownership as you can. The dream is to get full ownership and performance rights for the character, their video and music, and their channel. The agency only allocates a certain budget for sponsoring the creation of their talents' original songs, animated videos, live2d and 3d models, and merchandise. Any more than that has to be funded by the talents themselves. So imagine you commisioned a bunch of talented creators and together made some amazing piece of art, but it will get deleted if your employer terminates your contract. Would you be willing to bet the farm on that? Take a Rushia MV for example. The lyrics, vocals and music might be salvageable. The artist name would have to be re-branded on all platforms. The video is almost certainly lost, in the best case it would need to be fully re-drawn and re-rendered using a different character. Now take Houshou Marine. Her songs are heavily tied to her character, not very portable. The Unison MV cost as much as a brand new car iirc. Her new MV costs 4 times as much. Like holy shit I hope she's not throwing that much money away on a property that she doesn't fully own and that will self-destruct under certain conditions.

Putting aside vtuber audition things, this is how to apply any jobs based on this video: 1. Basic and common skills, i mean really basic, something that normal people (and you) do everyday, or in short, you-know-how-to-use-computer type of skill. 2. Portofolio, such as CV, certificate, or any proof that you have enough experience in the field that your job recruiter wanted from you. This is to ensure that you know what you're signed up for, and know what you're doing in your future job in general. 3. Your actual skills. Show up what's your true skills and how it will be useful in your future job. More so if you are actually talented and has achievement in it. 4. Professionalism. You're gonna have to follow some strict rules of your company once you are accepted. Show them how you are able to dedicate your time and efford to your job and follow their rules and targets. 5. Self reflection, such as your pros and cons (physical and mental health, skills, etc [do not show too much of your cons, though]), your self-goals (salary, fame, etc), and your self limits. Learn how your true self willingness to your future job before you're going to apply because once you're accepted, it would be pretty hard to leave. (sorry for bad english and long post)

Basically, it's a job. And a really high demanding one at it. Anything relating to human interaction is going to be hella hectic af, and anyone who had work experience with retail or customer service can agree that you're not gonna please everyone. You'll be hurled the worst of humanity in your daily lives, need to touch grass to regain sanity, and be really creative on deescalating your patrons, or for content creators including vtubers, their fanbase. And to you who thinks anyone can be a vtuber, it's true, but most of the best ones are either university art graduates or currently taking the course; either workshops or colleges. Talent can only bring you too far. It's easy to think that whatever vtubers do, is a world where 'talent' can be used. It's an artform for me... something that requires a lot of hard work, that we the viewers can only see the end product.

Worth mentioning imposter syndrome. A lot of popular VTubers say stuff like "I don't know why anybody watches me." People who are very skilled at something tend to think of themselves as worthless frauds. This happens to people in any high-skill or high-profile profession. If you feel confident about your talents, that could even be a bad sign. Don't let imposter syndrome stop you from applying. Obviously, you still must be prepared, but you might be a lot better than you think.

@@yukimochimochikazumito2032 TBH, I always hear this trope about women, and I don't think it's actually true. Though I usually hear it with reference to dating. I see a lot of women complain about dating prospects or how a lot of men actually just wind up talking a big game and being lazy fucks who won't even put in the minimal effort to get laid or seem even at least slightly presentable or sociable. And for V-tubing, I can absolutely see these agencies preferring women to men. But of those women they aren't going to pick anybody that they think is boring or a liability. Men may be horny, but not all of them are lonely or going to put up with bullshit. They're happy to be horny, if, and only if, the fantasy can be maintained without involving them in drama. Which is ultimately what V-tubers are selling. But even if you did have such a low opinion of your audience that you think they're just shit-flinging chimps, you're still better off entertaining them with somebody who's good in a public-facing role.

One good thing I’ve seen at least, is that unlike real-world talent agencies, they won’t ignore you in the future if you apply and they don’t think you’re ready. If you send a demo or acting reel to a talent agency and it’s trash, they will remember your name and it’ll be difficult to get them to consider you in the future. At least both Cover and AnyColor have said keep trying, so they understand that people can improve over time.

Yes actually, the "show yourself" Do means that we show our tenacity, perseverance to truly join.. Because i believe most people doesn't really genuinely join agency out of passion (which is normal). Afterall, a decent company, even tho they are there to make money, they still care about the employee, because good relationship with their employee can be a good thing in the long run. If the employee show that they truly willing and genuinely care for the company, it shows and the company can see it (well.. Not all of course). But of course, you need to be competent, not just passion.. But if your willpower is so strong, of course you will strive and improve

I knew I wouldn’t be accepted but I still thought it would be interesting to try since I was a lot more optimistic and wasn’t thinking long term. When I talked with a close family member about it, they asked a lot of the things I didn’t think about such as if I would be able to handle the stress or understanding what I might be agreeing to. Although it made me upset at the time it sort of brought my standards back down to earth as I realized I didn’t really have a clue as to what I was doing. Even if it was disappointing, it just made me want to work harder by myself and figure out if this is something I would actually want to try doing.

Good video, nice to hear this as the Vtubers in these companies likely aren’t allowed to talk about this stuff. The scale of the Vtuber industry is getting bigger, so it might seem like being passionate and being yourself is too blissful as advice, but it is still the foundation of the audition. You have to be passionate enough to work past any limitations and guidelines of working in this company, while working on what you want to see from yourself while in this company. That’s what it means to be passionate and be yourself. Building what you want to see from this is just as important as meeting the company’s expectations. Good luck to anyone auditioning!

12:44 This is why I hate the EN community constantly saying "they're just playing a character bro." Not only does it act as some sort of excuse for them to do really weird things with the "characters" (let's look at Peko and Miko or KSON and Kanata), but it shows that they don't realize that most of the chuubas are just being themselves, mostly. And that disconnect leads to some really disgusting things that the EN community refuses to admit. Like, EVERY entertainer puts on a facade of some kind... but they're not playing some scripted character. They're just playing up certain things because it's about ENTERTAINMENT. But they're not actors. Another reason why I hate people calling them "voice actress" instead of "roommate". VA makes it sound like they're playing a character, when roommate properly acknowledges their personal life separate from their streaming life but that their streaming self is still, usually, mostly their real self.

As someone who has loved watching youtube and content creators since I was little I have a love for creation as well and honestly since I fell in the rabbit hole a while ago I greatly enjoyed watching vtubers and it makes me think that maybe one day ill have a chance myself to be something. Your video was greatly helpful and I think you for making it and ill probably watch it again when I actually do either try my hand as being indie or go for an agency like Nijisanji or Hololive, I just hope the fact that I not really one to lead a convo when others are talking plays against me. although I myself have confidence in myself and how entertaining I can be there are always the uncertainties of the interview or applying and how well one can do. I shall work and strengthen my skills and sharpen my tools thinks to you before I even attempt to take that leap. Again I think you once more your video was greatly enjoyable and informative as someone who in recent days are getting more and more interested in applying by the day. and if I do maybe one day manage to get in it would probably be thinks to you and your video.

Super helpful video!! As a person planning a debut (hopefully next month, everyone underestimates the amount of work it takes such as making/getting a model, having a brand or idea of your brand, getting the setup right, etc.) Honestly the best advice I've heard is do not aim high thinking you're going to get to be in a big place like hololive or nijisanji, focus on having fun! As someone preparing for their debut I often remind myself this, because I've been prepping for months, and it is good to not get a full head! Having fun is what VTubing is all about, so remember that

I can't imagine how much research this took to make, nice job! About the whole experience in content creation thing: maybe specify previous following and the level of content creation as well.... Example: I've been making gameplay videos since I was a kid with my friends starting off recording gameplay from a Dazzle DVD recorder, editing in pinnacle studio, and uploading with copyrighted music back in 2008ish before the channel was nuked... then moved on to co-editing for a clan channel that separated.... then moved on to just streaming on Twitch and converting clips to TikTok/Shorts.... My point is: anyone can do this, I'm not special.... What I do is essentially not real content creation (since all I did is the initial stream setup, utilized DaVinci Resolve nodes to automate converting clips, and the occasional stream upgrade/optimization for the 3 regulars that watch me) and my chances would be low as hell at any agency because of low following/how basic the content is compared to other streamers. My content *(not this channel, Twitch)* is for all intents and purposes basically entry-level crap. *TL;DR:* Specify whether being a small time streamer with a small following is the same as not making content at all.... Because it feels like that is the case.... no matter how long you've been making content, if it's basic crap then it feels like you're essentially the same as someone with no experience in the eyes of anyone important.
@knexfan100
@knexfan100 2 жыл бұрын
@xYou didn't read my comment properly.... I specified twitch in the original comment.... this is my personal channel where I upload rants and unlisted videos to make my friends laugh. I have 2 channels.... one for random friends stuff/salt venting (this channel) and one with a completely different username to keep things separate. I don't upload gameplay to this channel. And I also specified that I upgrade the stream quality occasionally (ie, as soon as I can afford/have time to install items for the stream like cameras, heart rate monitor, sound dampening the room, GoXLR, etc).... Reading comprehension, try it sometime lol. Also, saying "good content will have good followers" is half true..... you can have a small community, sure..... but blowing up the conventional way (without the assistance of an agency) is a combination of luck, content, and work ethic.... Ask any independent streamer and they'll tell you something along the lines of this. DSP made garbage content back in the day (he pointed a camera at his tv to record gameplay) but he blew up back in the day because he was one of the first to do it, he used to chop his videos up and spam upload dozens of the resulting shorter videos a day, and he accidentally birthed a community of people that made fun of how badly he played games. Some of my favorite streamers are small but have all the overlays, art, voice acting, singing, constantly speaking to chat, and/or good at games and still average 20-50 viewers after years of work and upgrades. Mic_Feedback on Twitch is a fantastic example of this....I've been following the dude since his mlp music days, movie streams, all the way to today where literally 7+ years of streaming later it's still just his tight-knit small community with maybe a few new followers that stuck around after a raid..... dude had 60ish viewers last I checked.

I was actually planning on joining the next wave that came up, but thank god I didn't because I didn't exactly have the setting for it nor do I have the proper background to increase my chances of being accepted. This video is very precise, if not accurate, and would highly recommend listening to it, especially the 'be yourself' part cause if you give them what you want them to see, it's ganna seem 'out of character' and it isn't what the agency hired you for. As well as the increase your skills part. If you get rejected the first audition, don't be afraid to practice and ofcourse become better even if it's a little bit, you don't have to gather viewers, let them gather towards you. As long as your familiar with editing it should be fine, and your pc should be able to handle it. I'll keep this advice and other vtuber's advice(cause they did experience it first hand) in mind, and you should too if you're determined to be one of them. And always remember the sacrifice you have to go through. Stay safe everyonee !!!

I'd just like to add that some agencies, mainly western ones, have a lot more freedom even if they can't give you as much of an audience boost as Hololive or Nijisanji. VShojo just brings you in as you are. No need to rebrand or leave your community and VTuber friends behind. You also get to keep the IP and all the stream revenue since they only make money from merch and sponsor deals. I don't think they pay for your model, but they can help you get bigger name artists that you couldn't reach before. Cyberlive is basically the same but they'll provide you a pre-made model that you can then keep and use even after leaving the agency. These agencies might be smaller and provide you with less clout than Niji or Holo, but you get a lot more freedom and won't be left stranding if you leave the company, so keep lots of options in mind.

Reminder also: All pros come with cabeats and other cons Hololive and Nijisanji may be strict on screening talents and they are VERY tight on the leash with their talents to avoid any West Taiwan Antis or Rushia incident, but they provide a lot of technical support and pretty much handle anything a Vtuber talent wouldn't be expect to know how to deal with (Legalese things and specially more complicated sponsorship deals), but be prepared to work there almost like you were in any other corpo job, rules, limitations and lots of having to talk with upper management for most things. VShojo and such provide a lot of smaller benefits and freedom as well, but understand that they also have flaws in areas Niji and Holo don't cut short, specially legal and support to talent when Drama happens (Melody case and the NuxTaku Vs VShojo mess as well), so understand that freedom also comes eith you being on your own devices regarding some annoying shit.

@@andrehashimoto8056 VShojo hadn't launched when Melody got hit with that copyright claim so it's debatable how much they could've helped her with that, but Legal Help is on the list of things they offer. Also none of the talents were "left to their own devices" on the Nux situation. He made a video exploiting a crime committed against them for views. They didn't stop him hard enough. The members asked him to take it down privately, he refused. Then they called him out publicly and the rest we saw. It doesn't seem to be a legal case at all. I agree with your overall point though. All agencies come with their caveats and none of them are perfect. I'd say apply to all of them if you're interested, since it can be a good experience to go through the proccess, but measure things and do the research carefully when deciding to join any company.

I've been thinking about the pros and cons of becoming a vtuber for a long time now. I really like the aspect of being able to interact with other people while staying anonymous by using a vtuber model. The rigging and the various vtuber personas look really nice as well! And personally I always feel the most happy when I can make others laugh or get into fun conversations. But the things that have been keeping me from doing just that are many of the reasons that were listed in the video- I don't have a PC to begin with, I'm not sure if my health can keep up with running a schedule while still doing another job, plus my voice starts getting strained/hurting after I talk for like 2-3 hours continuously (many vtubers stream for like 5-7 hours). But if I somehow manage to get a pc I would definitely try to stream indie to see if I can handle it long term to begin with. I'm also very interested in learning how to make a vtuber model. I'm really glad this video wraps up all those important points! And even tho there's so many hurdles I still feel motivated to work towards making it happen some day 🙏
