New Zealand farmers are known for their stoicism and resilience ... but not for opening up and talking about their feelings. Yet this is just what a group of farmers have had to do as they deal with depression.

Some of these comments are rediculas this is about depression not his job. Depression is nothing to make light of. This family has opened up and let us into their story, so please be respectful

I'd be pretty depressed contributing to that much animal cruelty, too. It's no wonder animal farmers and slaughterhouse workers have higher rates of suicide, depression, are over-represented in violent crime statistics, etc.. Convert your land to farm crops, or get out of farming entirely. It's a dead end street.

a very lucky man to have such a wife. in very way. How she handled and helped this food man before during and after. I had no such partner. I was with a woman who allied more and more pressure to attend all sorts of events and not acknowledging the depression or the accompanying alcohol abuse. A woman like that First Lady in this interview is an unbelievable person to have by your side.

I’m not a farmer. But what this man did and the expansion of the farm to ring depressed and never really realising it. This happened to me. I was totally stretched, and thought that i could do anything. I bought too many properties. They were almost all good assets. But I could t manage them. And I wasn’t thinking straight about the whole thing. In the meantime I had a full time job that I was attending and this was no small job. full on global controller role with a base in California whilst I lived in London. And not just travel to get to work but also serious international travel also along with serious stress. Alcohol abuse was huge for me. It was when I’d travel. On the plane. In the airport lounge. In the hotel. In the bar. I restaurants. With colleagues. With friends. Abroad. In London. Everywhere. and cigarettes were huge also. Though I managed to give them up a few times and eventually for good. And other bad habits too, addiction with women. I totally collapsed in the end. and no idea if can survive much longer now.

a good partner, a good woman can go such a long way. women are mostly hugely strong beings and multi talented and that couples with the nurturing instinct is enormous. My life would be very different if I had chosen a great partner.
