Join us on Thursday, June 8th at 6pm CDT for the premiere of Keri Smith's interview with Canadian Powerlifting Record-Breaker April Hutchinson.
April Hutchinson is a Canadian powerlifter who overcame addiction to go on and set competitive records in deadlift and squat competitions. In a short time her success now includes both the North American Deadlift Record Holder and Overall Total Record Holder. Last year she competed at Worlds, and this August, she will again be competing in the North American Championships. Recently, Hutchinson has begun voicing her concerns with the Canadian Powerlifting Union, who are currently allowing biological males to compete in women’s powerlifting competitions.

I was powerlifter in college. (My last competition was at the USAPL Longhorn Open in Austin back in 2000 - so it's been a while. Lol) I enjoyed this discussion. Good on you for saying what needs to be said. I would have been pretty ticked if some heavy weight decided to identify as a 180 pound guy (or whatever the weight class was for me at the time) and blow away the competition because they were naturally giant. There's no substantive difference between someone pretending to be a different weight or age and someone pretending to be woman when they're not one. I hope you keep succeeding at what you're doing!

You're a badass! Thank you for speaking up. And love that you're using lifting to lift yourself out of a mental hell-hole! I think the boost in confidence and self-worth and self-image is one of the best aspects of strength and movement in general.

ive actually been observing that for a while (5:00), i dont have an addictive personality so i kinda wonder from interest to interest. but my wife and closest friends do have addictive personalities and they do toss themselves into most things that interest them. i see great value in that as they do tend to push things forward whereas i tend to just chill where i am. 16:00 thats what they rely upon, our desire to be nice and get along. emotional blackmail. i have had people i love try to emotionally blackmail into complying with what they thought was "good" and then called me selfish and then hint at that i am brainwashed and a conspiracy theorist. it sucks hard. i am still trying to get along as best as i can with these people, but i am now of the opinion that there is nothing more sickeningly, uselessly, worthless than a "nice" person. A nice person will allow a bully to bully.

In terms of world leaders who say epically stupid things, try watching New Zealand's prime minister, Chris Hipkins, try and answer a question from a journalist, 'can you define what a woman is?' His answer beams his disgraceful cowardice out to the world. And this question was asked a week after a 70-year-old woman was brutally attacked and hospitalised by a young man (trans activist) at a women's rally in Auckland while the police did nothing.

Only alcoholics think alcoholics are "extreme people" who go all in. It's not hard to go "all in" with destructive tendencies. Especially being lazy and not ever taking responsibility for your actions. Those are easy things.

All alcohol is bad. I know of old people who smoke every day and never had any problems from it. Doesn't make some cigarettes good.
