I really wish they'd cast the singers out there with just right amount of warmth and brightness for this opera today. We get so much wobble!

Amazing performance. They are all marvellous singers and do full justice to Strauss' glorious music, their voices blending perfectly. We can't get better than this.

Actually, it did get better once with a 1933 recording with Lehmann, Olszewska (sp) and Schumann. The final trio is so incredibly beautiful you'll weep. It's on Naxos.

This trio is beautifully balanced. All three are in fine voice and they give way to each other to make the most important lines stand out. Tomowa Sintov is just gorgeous in the opening. A full ,rich toned voice.

Anna Tomowa-Sintow as Marechal is less sarcastic as Elisabeth Schwarzkopf but nobel in her gestic and mimic. Her Interpretation shows the pain of loss of her young lover, which she go through with enormous dignity. Agnes Baltsa is the youngest singer of Octavian in history of Salzburg Festival and Vienna State Opera. Her boyish charme in this recording is brillant. And finally Janet Perry perform a shy young and quite innocent dealing Sophie. Bravi to all!

Perry's Sophie is amazingly smooth and limpid. Such a very ethereal warm Sophie. Balsta was lovely in the role vocally and physically in her acting she really nailed the male aspect. T-S was radiant smooth, powerful and glowing. An excellent ideal performance.

This is the performance I grew up on, and I adore, A.D.O.R.E. all three women, and there really is nothing that could ever replace this in my heart, but good lord God is this slow. I remember critics writing as much back in the day, but I had nothing to compare it to then. I remember, was it Alan Blyth, rest his soul, that said something to the affect that this was Rosenkavalier filtered through Brahms' requiem. Probably the wrong appropriation, but I miss Alan Blyth, so I thought I would mention him.

So many people consider Te Kanawa's Marshallin to be the gold standard, but I keep coming back to this one. It's so beautiful to have a big Straussian voice who could sing the most delicate piano on the Ab and crescendo to a big spinto sound up on top like Tomowa-Sintow
@jasonhurd4379
@jasonhurd4379 3 жыл бұрын
I'd like to see these folks who consider te Kanawa 'the gold standard' in this part. It's nice if the Marschallin has a creamy voice, but that's not half as important as her acting skills and, most importantly, her verbal acuity. Any Marschallin who approaches the role generically, with little attention to word-meaning or to the myriad shades of emotional development through which the character passes, is a failure. IMHO, Schwarzkopf and Felicity Lott, between them, comprise 'the gold standard' for this role.

Ma non tutto il Rosenkavalier e' così. Ci sono delle mezz'ore insopportabili. Strauss e' meglio in opere di un solo atto come Salome o Elektra dove non si dilunga. Arabella e' insopportabile.

Although I am not a fan of Stitch-Randall I will opt for HvK's first Rosenkavalier. The second time around he has made more cuts and the tempi is slower. I was lucky enough to see ES in the role a number of times and she is still the benchmark for this role which is not to say that Tomova-Sintow is less a Marschallin, just different and glad to accommodate maestro's tempo.
