Here's a very short definition of what each of those trains are Diesel-electric a big diesel engine spins an electric generator that then produces power for electric motors that are connected to the drive axles Diesel-Hydraulic to keep it simple it basically acts like a bunch of torque converters that are connected to the drive axles Diesel mechanical it's a gear train the diesel engine drives the wheels through a gearbox which then has an output shaft that splits off to the drive axles Steam engine a fire is lit under a high pressure tank with water called a boiler which then produces Steam that Powers a piston controlled by a complex gear linkage that adjusts the timing. The Piston is connected to a bar that is connected to all of the drive Wheels

I dunno about train engines specifically but diesel engines don't use spark plugs so they don't need electricity to keep running, which is why you have a fuel cutoff switch. Anyway I really enjoy watching Derail Valley so I hope to see more of it!

LOL i was gonna comment the same thing. that's also why diesel can run away just because they use the compression to ignite the fuel source (diesel or oil).

In case anyone cares or wants a more detailed explanation: Old school diesel combustion engines that utilise mechanical fuel injectors can run without electricity, because the injectors and fuel charging systems don’t rely on any electricity to power them. Thus diesel will keep being pumped if the alternator on these engines ever failed. It can be reliable but also quite dangerous when a diesel starts to enter critical runaway. Modern diesel engines however, the ones which’s fuel charging systems are fully dependent on electricity to power and actuate them, can also technically run without electricity. That’s if they’ve entered critical runaway. For example, if engine oil enters the combustion chamber through a major leak on enough cylinders to keep it running, you’re running the diesel on oil. This is because the oil pump is mechanically powered by the crank and provides the diesel engine with “fuel“, since diesels make use of their high compression in the cylinders to ignite its fuel instead of relying on an electric spark to ignite the air fuel mixture. And yes, this will blow up the engine if it starts “drinking it’s own blood“ Now, I’m not knowledgeable on diesel trains in particular, as I worked on cars mainly. But the concept should still apply to trains, given the diesel in locomotives derail valley are all “old school” in their engine design.

I suggest keeping your copay as low as possible. Also mouse wheel often works better than grabbing and dragging things like brake wheels and doors. I also often get the consist set up before putting the orders in the machine to save time for bonus pay.

Dear kan, diesels self ignite. Diesel engines with mechanical fuelpumps dont need any electricity to run. As long as the engine is running you have power from the alternator too. So you dont need a batery at all, they are just for starting. A gasoline engine does indeed need electicity for spaks. But not a diesel, it regulates rpm and power complety bij injection timing and injectjoin time (amount of fuel)
@TopiasSalakka Жыл бұрын
The reason why it didn't shut off is because it's a diesel with a mechanical injection pump. Diesel engines don't need spark plugs, they just need compression and fuel. So, since the fuel injection is ran purely mechanically, shutting off the electrics won't do anything, requiring you to press the fuel cutoff button. Meaning, they did simulate this correctly too.

The job starts once you take it so the timer is going the entire time you are prepping. You can look at the job requests forms and see the car numbers for the load and then be able to find it in the yard before taking the job. This will help you get bonuses for fast delivery.

Diesel engines don't use spark just pure compression. Older full mechanical diesel doesn't need electrical power to run That's the reason for a separate fuel shut off because the only way to shut them off is to shut off fuel or air or let the compression off.
@K1lostream Жыл бұрын
The diesel didn't shut off when you killed the electrics because diesels don't fire by sparkplugs - they fire by comprssion, which is why they're so clattery, because they're like double the compression or more than gasoline engines. Anyway yeah, as long as theyre getting fuel they'll run, so you shut em down by starving them of fuel. Fun fact, if an oil leak happens that means a diesel can get its own oil to burn, even shutting the fuel off won't help, it'll just runaway until it siezes up or explodes.
