is it possible to upgrade Tourney TX 800 FD and RD to Acera M3020 without changing any other parts
@pchykins668010 ай бұрын
IMO, Shimano Altus M310 RD is the MVP of cheap rear derailleurs....why? it's almost indestructible, shifts smooth using indexed shifters but works best using friction shifters...can be used up to 40T with no dropout extension...can work up to 46T with an extension...also, if used on a 20" folding bike, it can basically make climbing way easier!

Absolutely!

Friction shifters?? I guess any derailleur will work fine with friction shifters.
@marciooki5820 Жыл бұрын
👍 the shift loos smooth and solid. Can you tell us what was the biggest difference you felt between Tourney and altus? Thanks
@HomeLeHat Жыл бұрын
Hi! It is a little bit smoother on the bigger gear transitions. And I don't need to re-adjust it that often anymore. But keep in mind that the Altus is just a little bit better than the Tourney. You won't see a lot of difference if you don't experience any issues now with your Tourney.

@@HomeLeHat thanks for the reply. I think I'll follow your advice and keep my tourney (no problems at all)

thanks for the video. Where did you get your RD-m310? thanks
@HomeLeHat2 жыл бұрын
I just ordered it online. You can find it on Amazon (but really expensive). Or if you live in Europe from bikester or any local shop should have these. They are just a tat better than the tourney. Ask for a 7/8-speed Shimano Altus.

I'm replacing my Tourney rear derailleur with an Acera RD-360 after 3 years and thousands of km of riding. Don't ask me why because the Tourney shifts flawlessly and is smooth and quiet when clean, oiled and well adjusted 😆
@HomeLeHat2 жыл бұрын
Haha. Yeah I also did not really had a problem with the Tourney, but instead of cleaning it I decided to change it. The Altus (almost comparable with the Acera) does shift nicer on the higher gears. But shifting to the lowest gear (smallest) it’s still a gunkey feeling. I think it has to do with the bigger teeth gear difference between 1 and 2. In all. One of the lesser noticeable changes if you shift gears only incidentally.

@ferguson814 that would be a 52T. To be exact; this one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b6LFo2aKnL1reas

Yes probably. This is a 7 shifter

Do you have to use a hangger with m310 or can it be used as Direct mount
@HomeLeHat Жыл бұрын
There is no hanger included. If you already have a 7/8 gear derailleur on your bike than probably you can just re-use your current hanger. If your bike doesn’t have any gears right now than you probably need to figure out what kind of hanger you need. Mine is a part of my bike.
@waynestevens1654 Жыл бұрын
@HomeLeHat my bike doesn't have a hanger iam using a 6/7 tourney had a few they only last about a year the springs in them a crap my front drive set big ring is 48 38 28 and 7 cogs at back all shimano just wanting a better derailleur
@HomeLeHat Жыл бұрын
Ah than that is the exact scenario as mine. The m310 should be an upgrade build quality wise. Other than that I don’t feel significant differences in gear shifting compared to the tourney. Maybe just slightly better

Shimano altus is it work for a trekking road bike

I think so. But I do feel like the tension is not great enough to do off-roading. It's better than the Tourney, but still just enough for normale use.

Someone taught me that the highest quality 7 speed mtb derailleur is a 9 speed derailleur. With that I can't wait to replace the tourney with a Deore m591

The m591 does look awesome!

@@HomeLeHat ikr. I was so close to getting a shimano alivio before I realize Deore has a 9 speed.
@patrickrenschler Жыл бұрын
when you say this, do you mean that you upgrade everything to 9 speed lol? Or do you keep the cassette at 7 speed and just trim the limit screws so that it's not possible to shift beyond 7?
@lgdelgado Жыл бұрын
So... have you upgraded to Deore m591? What's your overall experience? Much better than Tourney? Thanks!
@SketchbookGuitar Жыл бұрын
@@patrickrenschler afaik it's all about the cable pull ratio and apparently 9 speed is compatible. You can use a 7 speed shifter and that would work as is.
@nuclearguitarfare4653 Жыл бұрын
You should really get the proper tool to cut cable. It's worth the money and you can crimp an endcap on.

No the RD-M310 is for 7 or 8 speed. For a 10 speed you better look at the Shimano DEORE line. Like RD-M5120.
