I've seen some large clearcuts with only a few snags left, sadly that is typical. I have also seen some very careful harvests to remove diseased oaks, and one cleanup after a small tornado went through the Fumee Lake area, so it can be done. A friend of mine had 120 acres that had not been cut since the early 1930's and several jobbers were after him to let them harvest the timber, said they would do a good job, but he said there is nothing to say once you are left with a stump so it still has not been cut. Leaving oil jugs and grease gun tubes is criminal and that is where there should be oversight and fines. Thank you for the video Jeep.

It's a real shame how bad it looks now, it reminds me of the animated film "FernGully" 😢🌳❤

That’s on crown land right ? You should email/contact the federal MP for that area. And tell them about the mess the company left and the dangers of leaving the small stuff to dry up. Especially considering what’s happening this year with forest fires. What a shame. Thanks for sharing. Take care and stay safe.

They are still removing logs. Maybe the cleanup comes at the end of the project.

@@EconoChallenge Hopefully they clean up their mess. Shame they’re removing trees that weren’t damaged from the storm last year. I’m originally from Navan and the storm ripped thru there pretty hard.

Wow, it's amazing how easily and efficiently we can cause havoc and destruction, so sad.

Bare earth. Unless something else happens after they are done, mother nature is starting from bare earth.

I get why they clear the pathways but why not clear all the downed material to avoid feeding future fires. Nate

The log removal is still active. Maybe they do the clean up at the end of the project. If that happens I will post another update video.

Hire a Forestry Mulcher to clear so you only have to harvest firewood.

On the one hand, it is good to put good trees to use after a storm like this. But the company that did this did a poor cleanup job. Where I live it is required to either mulch or make burn piles to get rid of the smaller material. Burning is sometimes quite tricky, and mulching requires special equipment. It's too bad it happened in a favorite spot of yours. 😢😢

Thank you for this reply. The removal of logs is still going. Maybe the cleanup comes at the end of the project. If that happens I will post another update to be fair.

Too bad so much was wasted. The branches and other “non-lumber” materials could have certainly been used to make mulch to help support the next generation of trees that should have been planted. I have heard that in Germany they use even piece of each tree that’s harvested. I’ve never been there to see it firsthand but believe it most likely is true. It also would have been nice to see them leave some of the old growth trees to become nurse logs. Here in the PNW, I’ve seen places where trees are in a straight line from nurse logs. Bottom line, we as a species could and should do much better than that. Thanks for sharing.

Canada needs to do a much better job in forest management, the current fires just prove the neglect…

I have only seen a few examples of logging operations in Ontario, New Brunswick and British Columbia. It appears to me the further you get from the public eye the more corners get cut. Rules get bent. Blind eyes are turned. OR We don't have the tax dollars to spend on properly apply the rules we already have in place. What ever the reason I agree we can do better.

It comes down to money. We don't want the "resources" to go to waste so we employ the cheapest method for extraction. Never taking into account the cost to the natural environment or the cost to future generations who have to clean up the mess we leave behind. All of the young trees that were waiting in the under-story to grow into the sunlight revealed by the fallen trees have been killed during the removal of the logs. Now we are starting from bare earth. It will be two or more generations before we will see the forest as it was before the storm.

It comes down to money. I’ve sub contracted for the US Forest Service. The money has already been given, in retrospect. So they want those contractors to do something for that money. As a Marine, before being a civilian contractor, I’ve been around forest fires. Just one Squadron of 46’s &53’s , we could have put out several forest fires around Southern California. We were on standby a lot, but never called. I found out years later as a civilian that the Forest service has contracts with companies. So they could not call the Marines. As a result, millions of dollars was lost in property. It is sad.
