Love this song. It was such a surprise from them at the time; we were used to seeing them as 4 moody post-punk politically fiery Irishman. Suddenly we're hearing a relationship song from them and not yet another power ballad which was so popular in the 80s... but a real, mature song which was moody, tense, restrained and had a feverish heat to it. It still smolders today and stands among their best work.

Dude. Everything you said about this song is exactly how I felt the first time I saw it on MTV in 1987. This is such a timeless piece, the musicality and the sheer emotion in this song is incredible. The crazy things about is that while it is layered and builds little by little it really isn't that complicated a song, based around those four main chords the Bass comes in with. Yet it is absolutely a masterpiece of musical art. Great reaction. Oh and Dude, talking about the hate mail you said you get because you don't know the music of those times or people saying you should? Just ignore it man. Reactors like you give us the joy of experiencing the song again almost like we did the first time. That's priceless stuuf man, so thanks and best to ya.

A stunning band that are so phenomenal as a lot be act too !!! I’ve seen them a few times and each time was an amazing day and you felt so euphoric with the sound of their tracks still lingering with you on the road home too ….. One of the best times was when they played at Murayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on the Pop Mart tour. The venue held about 60,000 between seated and standing. I was working for a security firm at the time that did the security for most of the venues in Edinburgh and Glasgow that held larger concert numbers. I was stationed in the mid section at the back of the stadium furthest from the stage. I got a spare pair of tickets and gave one to my boyfriend and it was such a well behaved section that all I had to do was to walk up and down the steps checking no one was needing help. I spent the rest of the show just standing there watching the show and it was such a special night …. It’s one of the best shows I’ve seen and made so special that I had Stewart with me xxxxx Amazing !!!

What a Monday, my hymne of life (innocence), then later ONE and SOMETIMES YOU CAN MAKE IT ON YOUR OWN (experience). The whole album JOSHUA TREE is atmospheric and brilliant; e.g. take the package BULLET THE BLUE SKY (political song) + RUNNING TO STAND STILL (addiction song) from the concert Paris 1987. The last title you can also see Live in the St. Patrick Cathedrale Dublin, 24.12.2022, Bono and THE BUSK so passionate and fantastic with the harmonica end. It's worth to see. My first U2 song was Two Hearts Beat as One and it took about a month before I found out the name of the band. In the past, when listening to the FM radio you'd wait till the end of the song to find out the song name and the band name. But so often a commercial break came on and you'd have to wait to hear it again and hope you'd get it. Some songs from other bands took a few years to find out who they were. I'm sure this happened to a lot of people that grew up in the 70's and 80's. I've been a fan of U2 since then.

This song was written about the conflict of fame vs religion in Bono, Larry and The Edge in the early 80’s when a church group they were part of called ‘Shalom’ tried to tell them they couldn’t serve God and music at the same time. Brian Eno and actually tried to toss it out until one of Edges friends sent him the infinite guitar pedal they invented that makes that long ringing note from the guitar. It was the atmosphere that brought which saved the song.

The Joshua Tree was written lyrically by Bono specifically for & about America. Bono was so adept & brilliant lyrically, that he he could write songs with a surface meaning & a deeper more macro meaning as well. While this song is written in a person to person context, it is also a song written by the world to America. Bono is a outright genius & Poet Laureate for a generation.

From liking much of U2 songs over many albums, I found out about Daniel Lanois, French Canadian pronounced like Lan-Wah, who produced a lot of their music, a lot of other great music like some of Peter Gabriel's, also the sound track to the game Red Dead Redemption 2. Daniel is truly a musical genius. After listening to Daniels own music I could hear his influence in their sound. "Still Water", "Jolie Louise" "The Maker" are just a few I recommend.
