This is one of the greatest songs of all-time, in my opinion. A true masterpiece. I remember REM's Michael Stipe saying its the one song he wishes he had written himself. The whole of Achtung Baby is U2's masterpiece album. Every track on it is wonderful and the album was a massive game changer for U2 in so many ways. I'd love to hear you react to more songs from it, especially: THE FLY (amazing guitar from The Edge) ZOO STATION (brilliant European industrial rock sounds) WHO'S GONNA RIDE YOUR WILD HORSES. UNTIL THE END OF THE WORLD. ULTRAVIOLET. LOVE IS BLINDNESS - heck, just every damn track! I adore U2. I love their 80's work too, which was very different but 90's U2 is when they really took chances, were experimental, adventurous, creative.Other songs I adore are: STAY (FARAWAY, SO CLOSE) from their Zooropa album. HOLD ME, THRILL ME KISS ME, KILL ME (a great rock track theme song from the Batman movie in 1995.) YOUR BLUE ROOM (from U2's Passengers side-project with Brian Eno.) DISCOTHEQUE and MOFO, (from their POP album in 1997, shows a more dance/techno sound from the band) Like I said, in the 90's, whether it all worked or not, they weren't afraid to branch out and experiment with different sounds and styles. Some fans adored the new European industrial and electronic sounds, others preferred what they were doing in the 80's, either their early 80s Irish rock and New Wave sound or their later American rock and blues sound) .Some, like me, love it all, but especially 90's U2. :) From the 80's I'd definitely recommend: THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE (song) BAD The whole of the Joshua Tree album (which is U2 in their 'Americana' period) - in particular the first 4 tracks on the album are magic! Plus, DESIRE and ALL I WANT IS YOU, from their Rattle & Hum album. Damn, so many more songs I could recommend but I think I've mentioned enough, lol! Their more recent output has been more conventional and less creative, I guess, more MOR and playing safe (still many good songs though) which makes a lot of people foolishly slag them off and call them boring, completely forgetting about or ignoring the first 2 decades of incredible music U2 gave us, which is such a shame!! Glag you're listening to this iconic band, Dereck. Please delve more into their music, you won't be disappointed! :)

Seeing your love for U2 continue to blossom, as a younger fan myself, is so heartwarming! Was nowhere close to coming into this world when this song came out, but I don't believe, that means it can't touch me just as close as it did anyone who heard it on the radio for the first time in '91! For the next steps on your wonderful journey, "Every Breaking Wave" is a modern U2 MUST (some folks in the comments recommended a stellar live performance already!), "Beautiful Day" for something more positive, uplifting and high-energy, and "Pride (In The Name Of Love)" for another politically-charged U2 classic!!! 💓 Whatever path you take next, I cannot wait to see this journey continue :D

Love your reactions. Always heartfelt and genuine. One is a special song. A song that just transcends other music and genres. Achtung Baby is a gorgeous and dark masterpiece. The very best of several U2 masterpiece albums. For something different, and may just reduce you to tears, consider reacting to the live version of Love is Blindness from ZooTV Sydney. I can never get through the guitar solo without tears welling up. So much anger, and sadness channeled through his instrument.

I’ve read many times that the original meaning of the song was a conversation between a father and son. The son was telling his father he was gay and his father was totally against it . Actually, it’s about a band breaking up, as U2 was on the verge of doing when the Edge proposed a chord progression for the bridge in “Mysterious Ways” and inadvertently gave birth to this song. They thought the magic they once had disappeared. It didn’t. The song is brutally honest…”We hurt each other and we’ll do it again.” Rolling Stone magazine falsely claimed it was about AIDS just ahead of U2 signing off on it being used for charity.

One is a song Bono said in an interview he wrote about a close friend of his and the turmoil he went through with his father after telling him that he was Gay at a time when this was frowned upon in Ireland thankfully not now. a number of Rock and pop stars have named this song as among the greatest they have ever heard including Robbie Williams { Take That} Noel Gallagher { Oasis} and Axl Rose { Guns n Roses} who said I think their song 'One' is one of the greatest songs ever written. Now I can see and understand why people were into U2 years ago. Every Breaking Wave from Songs of Innocence is a career-great, imo!! As great as One, I'd say no, my pick for U2's best composition would have to be New Year's Day or With Or Without You, but just because a newer song isn't as beloved or considered as "great" as the classic stuff, doesn't mean it can't be great in its own special ways.

@@sp0ngeb00b7 They have had great songs since then, but the Achtung Baby/Zooropa period has a very distinct feel that I don’t see being recaptured. I’m just glad they had this period to begin with. Most musicians never reach this level, much less, have it cemented in history.

Dereck. There are WAY too many songs that were HYPER famous and have played on and off since the 80s that you say you never heard before. It's impossible unless you hid in a soundproof booth for most of your life. So SOMETIMES, saying I heard that before, but so long ago, that I forget the vibe.. IS acceptable.. I GET the first impression angle.. BUT, it's just not believable at this point. IF I am wrong. Then I am REALLY sorry that you missed out on so much for most of your life. And that you are realizing that there is something MORE than the 2 or 3 tunes you must have heard before you started this channel.. PS: The French stuff.. NO PROBLEM, some of it I didn't even know existed. Et je suis né au Québec.. So nothing to say about that. But NEVER having heard of Depeche Mode, U2, Pet Shop Boys, Ah-Ah, The Police, and all of the other stuff that runs on dance floors even today.. NOT so much...

Im a child of the 70s, did not grow up in a soundproof box but have not heard many songs by u2, depeche mode and have no idea who Ah-Ah is. Dereck does often disclose if he has heard a song before but perhaps not seen the video during a reaction..

Yup like Jacinta said, there are many songs I've heard before and I do disclose this in my video before or even during a reaction. I'll say oh yeah I remember this or heard it somewhere. All those artists you mentioned I never discovered, I didn't have music like this growing up or at least never paid much attention to so I dismissed it. Tons of artists I've heard before like Aqua, Britney, Christina, Shania, Faith HIll, Euro 90s, why do think I don't react to them?? What about other reactors??? You could say the same thing as well ???

@@DereckReacts No offense but wow you were listening to real shitty stuff while growing up 🤣 and that's fine cause it now allows you to share your freshness on such good pieces of music like this one

It is possible to know of a famous band or singer and not know any of the songs, you might not of been born when these famous songs were first released😊

Here i am, thinking "Oh, a newer U2 Song" - then realizing it was in 1992 and it is now 30 years old... FFS

the "Berlin" version takes it to an higher dimension: the band dressed like drag queens, driving with trabis around Berlin and an old man posing in front of the Berlin wall
