Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another ABBA Reaction with "Put On You White Sombrero." ABBA takes there iconic talent and fuses it with this amazing sounding track. I still can't believe it!? Frida's vocals by far are the best I've heard thus far projection, and vibrattos. Even the "rejected " ABBA songs are leagues above the mediocre "best" songs of other bands. This song is a gem and one of the best examples of the supreme blend of A and A's voices. That "3rd voice" is so prominent in this. Great on the ears.

ABBAs songs are full of catchy and happy melodies; you get in such a good mood when you listen to ABBA. Their music pick you up when you are down or in a depression. Make you want to dance and celebrate being alive. The music is effortless, and yet so complex in all their different layers. In my opinion, Benny Andersson is one of the very best composers of our time. When you really and fully understand the text of ABBA songs, you will be amazed of the depth in the lyrics and the phenomenal insights in the challenges of being human. This ability allows us to easily identify with the lyrics. I do not know of any other group that can captivate me and enchant me like ABBA. Their music and lyrics are magical. Neither do I know of any other group that can evoke as many different and genuine emotions and feelings in me as ABBA do. This is a rare talent that ABBA have in abundance. I go as far as to say that this talent makes their music and lyrics a real healing on a very deep, unconscious level. Just wanted to say I saw ABBA live at Manchester Free Trade Hall in 1977. I was 20 years old and it remains one of the greatest nights of my life. I'm now 63 and love every track these guys ever put out. Their musicality and vocals, from both girls, are unsurpassed.

I also discover this song now, it's absolutely divine, Frida sings with such passion, so loud with a gorgeous vibrato, then both girls harmonize beautifully as in all their songs. Agnetha doesn't come in till part three of the song to give it the full soprano lift. Versre one and two of the song was Frida (alone) doing her own beautiful opera style backing. The two girls sang together completely on the last verse and did it amazingly. What a wonderful song!

The song is a great example of a musical phenomenon made up of the voices of both women Frida nad Agnetha, the compositional talents of both men Benny and Bjorn as well as the lyrical talent of Bjorn. The four of them created and developed Abba's original and unique sound that can be considered in the category of musical syncretism. Each of them alone was not the same, anymore. They were just made for each other and... pity that they broke up in both musical and private lifes.

Re: high unison chorus, metallic edge Bjorn has explained that metallic shimmer edge in high unison chorus is from Frida. Per Bjorn ---Paraphrasing: - Agnetha is a pure soprano. - Frida is a mezzo-soprano, with a very wide range. - the girls sing a lot in high unison (same pitch). Agnetha stays in her neighborhood, while Frida uses her wide range meet Agnetha. - Agnetha stays in her range, and has short travel to high unison. - Frida has the longer travel to high unison chorus. - When Frida reaches high unison pitch, she puts on a metallic edge in her upper range and that is when that metallic sound happens. You can her this in lots of Fruda's solo works. An example is 'Life on Mars' (75) cover. He often demonstrates visually with his hands. One hand Agnetha up high..The other hand Frida lower and coming from below and reaching Agnetha and that is when Frida puts that metallic edge on her voice and that ABBA trademark sound happens. Agnetha is awesome, but she does not have Frida's sense of pitch, diaphragmatic breathing nor refined vocal skills.

And if you can react to the concert video version that is something special. Only when I got the live 79 cd and heard some of the intros throughout did I realize they made a special effort to introduce Agnetha as Bjorn's friend. That along with the song was I think a way of saying that even depsite the divorce things would go on and they would always be friends. Kind of sweet.

ABBA fan 4ever! One of my favorites (including the full album). ABBA fans certainly recognized how ABBA was progressively changing their styles and some format. They were just evolving a newer sound while still retaining the true original Abba style. I feel VISITORS and SUPER TROOPER showed this trend and maturity. I was so sad in 1981-82.
