It's not Clapton playing slide; it's the late Duane Allman. Clapton played on the Beatles White Album on While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

If you’ve ever seen Goodfellas, the second half is used as a pretty memorable needle-drop over a montage of mob hits. That might be where the sense of familiarity is coming from.

The song was to his close friends wife Patti Harrison wife of George. She eventually divorced George and with George’s ok moved in with Clapton and married him. Eric and George remained close friends until George’s death. Patti left Clapton because of his drug use. He did clean up eventually. The slide guitar on the song is but Duane Allman of the Allman Brothers Band. Duane was killed not long after in a motorcycle accident.

Unplugged was actually a TV show, "MTV Unplugged" where artists would perform their songs acoustically.

First heard Clapton through the Beatles. Then then Unplugged. And for a few years I kept “discovering” him on random songs and bands. I Shot the Sheriff cover - him. After Midnight - Clapton. Yardbirds - Clapton. Unplugged - him. Derek and the Dominoes…Cream etc he seemed to be involved in everything I was latching on to at that time.

A classic :-) When I was young (oh, oh, boring middle-aged anecdote coming up), the unplugged version was super popular. Had a similar experience like Nathan. When I heard the original, I was blown away. Famously, this song got Clapton to snatch off George Harrison's then-wife Patty Boyd...(well, shortened version of events). The ending section that is usually cut-off on the radio, is just beautiful. BTW, useless information. Boyd may be the most influential 'muse' in rock music. Songs alledgedly written for her are: "Something" (Beatles/Harrison), "Layla" (Clapton) and "Wonderful tonight" (Clapton).

This band and this song by them is a long story. They all played together with Delaney and Bonnie and Friends. They were George Harrison's core band, backing him for 'All Things Must Pass'. This, their only studio work. The first three songs were all them. Clapton met Duane Allman and was invited to play slide on the remainder of the album. Duane came up with the idea for the opening 'Layla' riff. This 2nd piano part ending, isn't part of the original writing. I'm not going to spend a lot of time writing the story. I suggest you read about it. EC has been revered for his guitar work since the 60s. He's in the R&R Hall of Fame 3 times. THREE! He's more than worthy of study and having his music reviewed.

Hi, Ryan, just found your second channel) so great to see your reactions again! And your friend too! I have a suggestion I really think you may enjoy this one) as long as I remember your music taste)) it's new band for me, just discovered them last week because they've been representing Finland on Eurovision (one of the biggest song contests in Europe, each European country brings only one song). Mostly it's just fun TV show, it's also great opportunity for young artist and bands to show themselves to a huge audience. This year surprisingly we had two bands with rock songs. A band from Italy called Maneskin with "glam rock" and of course Blind Channel from Finland. The Finnish guys I just loved even though their music is not as heavy as I usually listen to. They call their style violent pop. To me they have nu-metal sound combined with pop, electronics and rap.. if to compare with other bands it's probably early 2000s: Linkin Park + AFI + 30STM + Poets of the Fall.. but they also have a really nice fresh new touch to their music)) I literally can't stop listening to all three their albums, playing on repeat in my headphones for the last 4 days. Their life performance on Eurovision was also great. Please react to it)) I really think YOU may like it! kzbin.info/www/bejne/nICzeKuHacuajNk Sorry for a really long writing)))

Album is front to back, killer blues. Clapton has IMO never surpassed this album. Song is Clapton professing his love for Patti Boyd, wife of Beatle, George Harrison. Eventually she left Harrison for Clapton although they too would later split.

This was Clapton’s attempt to escape a bit of the superstar mania that came with playing in two “supergroups “, Cream and Blind Faith. He was ready to play in a working band, not a collection of egos. After touring with Delaney and Bonnie and Friends( along with George Harrison and Dave Mason), he decided to form his own band. He essentially took most of Delaney and Bonnie’s band and formed Derek and the Dominos. Duane Allman, though never an official member of the band, did play on this album. This is my favorite Clapton album . I feel that he never made anything close to as good, since.

Old enough to have known this song since it first came out, I've always loved it, top 10 easily, and quite often I like the second half better than the first. It's a sad, resigned kind of sound - it's the kind of thing Elton John might have written (maybe why I like it so much). Eric Clapton dead? God, you gave a heart attack thinking I'd missed some terrible news! Last year I bought tickets to see him during a four-night 'residency' at the Royal Albert Hall in London, due in May this year. One week ago, 18 May, was my day, a chance to see someone I've wanted to see forever. I spent twice what I'd normally spend to get a good view. (The RAH is a lovely old building but it's designed for people to see things happening in the middle of the arena, not a one end: there are often railings and basically other people in the way if you have a cheap seat.) Then they postponed the shows to next year. That wasn't too unexpected, obviously. The trouble was, due to other bookings, four days became just two days. They cancelled two days. Guess what? They cancelled my day! The others are, naturally, sold out. Eric's getting on. I may never get to see him now, which is a terrible disappointment. So all that remains of my dream is a voucher for another booking at the RAH. No one's caught my eye yet, so I'll keep waiting. As to more Clapton, I must admit to really liking his 1986 album 'August'. It was produced by Phil Collins, so there's a bit of a different tone to it, but there are some great songs on there: It's In The Way That You Use It, Run, Tearing Us Apart, Holy Mother, Behind The Mask. The final song is a fabulous 6:23 'Grand Illusion' which might be worth a listen. I'm not a Clapton completist, don't know all his work by any means, just love that album. I remember listening to it in Spain on a wonderful summer holiday!

The acoustic version of this song is akin to the obligatory "I'm all washed up now" Christmas album many musicians fade out with. LAAAAAAME! Oh, and extremely boring!

I don’t agree with you, but I applaud your engagement. I’m an old lady who likes to see others’ enthusiastic opinions. And, by the way, subway tiles in kitchens are cheap, banal, and devoid of imagination. There are reasons why they used them in subways. 😏
