Derek Randall Nottinghamshire Legend my grandparents favourite and my all time favourite cricketer. I remember fondly his cap doffing to Lillee, fantastic fielding and Nat West final 1985 heroics. Thank you Arkle for the happy summers of yester year.

So under-appreciated throughout his career. He definitely had peaks and troughs, but he was one of my all-time favourites.

Derek Randall. Always a pleasure to watch because he relished every game. I have never seen a cricketer so enthusiastic whether batting, bowling or fielding. My all time favourite player.

Such an unusual batsman, obviously more than capable of hitting big shots. Love the way he vocalises his displeasure!

Derek Randall: The selectors' scapegoat every time England lost. Too much the 'common' man for the upper classes who ran our game then.

Loved watching him fielding, he could save 20 or 30 runs which always put him ahead in my mind when he went to bat. Always tried to think like that when in the field myself.

I've owned Bob Willis's "Diary of a Captain" (1984), which charts this series in some detail, for a long time. Suffice to say, he took a rather dim view of Hadlee's uncharacteristic loss of judgment during this test match. But, being the intelligent strike bowler that he was (they are more common than you think!), he empathised with his counterpart's frustration; he even forgave him (almost)! It's a real treat actually to see the incident(s) described in the book as they happened.

A wonderful watch. Loved the Richard Hadlee Derek Randall handshake after the dismissal . A time of greater sportsmanship maybe ? Cheers

I thought that when I first saw this vid, but then Richard and Derek were team mates at Nottinghamshire. There again, Arkle is a real sportsman

Read Randall's autobiography, "The Sun Has Got Its Hat On": he looked up to Hadlee as a kind of mythical hero. Hadlee thought Randall was a bit crazy. Which he was :) And a genius, of course.

Good player to watch when he had his eye in, but he had weaknesses, not least of which was his liking for wandering across his crease without getting his front foot down the track. That made him vulnerable to lbw decisions and it was often his undoing. His test record is okay, averaged around 33 with 7 hundreds and 12 fifties but hardly the stats of a great player. Entertainer yes, amazing fielder yes, great test match batsman, not really. One or two highlights like this but overall his career was pretty average.

Loved watching Derek Randall have to say Hadlee bouncing the much faster Bob Willis was dumb. Bob was a extremely hostile genuinely fast bowler
