I just love it wehn you do rig run downs of Session Players. I learn so much from these and find insights on things I never would ahve thought of. Not that i don't with toruing musicians but it seems like you have more time to sit down and get into the nuances of everything they use and it gives me ideas for gear that might be useful to me. I would encourage you all to do more!!!

Many thanks to Derek and John for this interview! I've been a fan of Derek for years and had the honor to meet him at 3rd and Lindsley a few years ago when I moved to town. He was so encouraging and gracious with me, and I actually saw him the next night at Basement East. So cool! He's definitely one of my favorite session guys. I'm blessed to now be gigging in and around Nashville and I think about Derek's kindness towards me often.

Amazes me how many stellar players there are “behind the scenes” - you know Brent and Bryan Sutton but I’d never heard of Bukovac until his rig rundown, and now Derek. I met Derek about 10 years ago playing with Natalie Hemby at Tin Pan South. He was very gracious when I asked about his pedalboard. I live here now. I do find it funny that he begged us on IG to never play/write tracks with those 10ths riffs again... he played them near the end on the Duesenberg. haha! Great interview!

I use the first version Dark Glass, bass compressor! now they make a guitar version, but buying that elevated everything I was doing, for solos, if I’m playing rhythm, I turn it off, sustain is maxed, but no added color, I had a boss, sloppy/messy sound by comparison, adds color & distortion, where the dark glass does not.

Cheers
