1. There is a slight problem with the software. 2. Do you think we can lower our costs if we hire a freelancer? 3. I am sure with the support of our team and his learning skills, he can get it done. 4. Can I just add something here very quick? 5. I am not sure it is the best idea. 6. Could you please share more detailed information about this subject with me?

Hi there! Great effort. Let me give you some feedback: 1 - pretty good, but better if you say "I think we have a slight problem with the software" OR "I'm afraid we have a slight problem with the software" 2 - your anser works well, but you could also make it a negative: "Wouldn't it be cheaper to hire a freelancer? 3 - Great answer. Tip: Say "You may be right" OR "That may br true" 4 - Great! 5 - Good. Use Sorry at the start to make it even more softer and diplomatic 6. Great!

Hi Derek. I am from India. I just stumbled upon your site today and I have found it very useful to learn business english. But the problem is that I am not quite good in Written and spoken English in general. Do you have any tips to share how to begin with learning Spoken English in day to day life and also how to be good in written English? Thanks Derek for your time if have read this. Keep posting such awesome videos.
@derekcallan-englishforpros4 жыл бұрын
Hi Atin, thanks for your message. Glad you found my channel! So, how to learn spoken English in day to day life? Good question! First of all, don't worry about mistakes - just try to speak as much as possible. If you don't have many opportunities to speak, try creating short dialogues for everyday conversation and practise reading them out loud. In order to speak more fluently, you'll need to learn more vocabulary and phrases. Set yourself manageable goals for learning vocabulary. Pick a new topic each week (health, travel, sport etc.) and focus on that. Try to learn 10 - 20 new words or phrases per week depending on how much time you have to invest. To improve your writing skills, try keeping a diary in English. Write a few sentences each day. If you stick with it, you will improve. These are just a couple of ideas. There are so many other things you can do, but it always depends on your situation. By the way, I'll be launching an online course soon where intermediate - upper-intermediate learners will be able to improve their small-talk and conversation skills. This might be something for you in the future. Anyway, good luck with your learning and all the best for now, Derek

@@derekcallan-englishforpros Thank you so much Derek for taking time to reply me. I will definitely do whatever you have suggested but I am wondering if you can recommend some books or some material from where I can learn phrases and vocab which are useful in day to day life. I know if I need to speak fluently grammar is the last thing I need to focus on. So if you could suggest me some good and useful materials related to phrases and vocab it would be very grateful. I am also looking forward for your new course on conversations. I hope it will get on board soon. Thanks again Derek. You are awesome.

Hi Atin, Here are some suggestions for learning vocabulary and phrases: British Council free resources - learnenglish.britishcouncil.org/vocabulary The Cambridge Vocabulary in Use books are also very good - www.amazon.in/s?k=cambridge+vocabulary+in+use&crid=XZNB33JJW9YB&sprefix=cambridge+vocab%2Caps%2C191&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-apa-p_5_15 IH Bristol website is great for expressions and phrases - www.ihbristol.com/useful-english-expressions I think that should keep you busy! However, things are extremely busy these days so I don't know when I'll actually get to create those lessons. They are planned though so please be patient. All the best, Derek

Hi there! My feedback: 1. - great! You could also use "'I'm afraid" at the start of the sentence to make it even more diplomatic and polite - "I'm afraid there's a slight problem with the software" 2 - Great, but don't forget "it" - "Wouldn't it be cheaper....?" 3 - This is okay, but you could also say: I can see your point, but he doesn’t have the right qualifications for the job. 4 - Great! 5 - Sorry, but I don't think it's a good idea. - use sorry at the start 6 - perfect!
