I remember the first time I listened to this scene on the audiobook. I had only just recently found out about Hoid and all of that, and I never expected to get a scene like this from a guy who I thought just made cameos. I was sitting on the shore of a lake in Wisconsin, USA, and it was late at night. It was a little windy, and chilly. I remember how the imagery and the music I imagined blended so well together, not only with itself, but also with my immediate surroundings. That, coupled with the excitement of seeing Hoid in such an involved role/scene, made this so memorable to me. Man, I love this series. EDIT: I also just realized something: In thise scene, Hoid tells Kaladin a story about a group of people losing the justification for their violent acts. The people of the island thought what they were doing was right, because the emperor told them it had to be that way. Later on, Kaladin does the exact same thing to Szeth. Szeth considered himself bound to anyone holding his oathstone, therefore any violence he caused had the justification of him following his oath, serving his punishment. By nature of being a radiant, he removes Szeth's justification for killing all the people he did, e because Szeth then knew that he wasn't wrong about their return, and was never truthless.

I didn't think of that Szeth connection! The only thing I saw was that the final chapter is called "In the top room", and we find out the Almighty was dead. Just like the people of the island finding their emperor dead, the Alethi have to realise that their dogmatic Vorin culture has no justification. They've been doing things in the name of the Almighty for so long, and yet he's been dead this whole time. Not only that but the emperor's body had been at the top of a tower, and Dalinar's betrayal takes place on "the Tower" right before he finds out the truth of the Almighty. AND TO GO EVEN FURTHER, Brandon plays on the Vorin belief in symmetry by telling the story of Wandersail in chapter 57 and revealing the truth about the Almighty in chapter 75.

Hoid is always such a character. He's not my favorite, but he's involved in a lot of my favorite interactions. I especially like how he taunts prideful morons, but always is kind to the ones who need it (Dalinar, Shallan and Kaladin). I can't wait for when the Graphic Audio people get the Rhythm of War book updated to 'The Dog and the Dragon'. I seriously want to hear that one story.

Hold up didHoid really say to a potential windrunner :" Would that I could make my word carry stones, that would be something to see"? Words that can carry stones like oath that give acces to the surge of gravitation and adhesion. I mean that's pretty clever right there.

Definitely not. Hes one of the only few I can picture in my mind. But I can't help but hope for them to cast relatively unknown actors who have the right direction to coax a phenomenal performance from them. This goes for all cast members, but having Danny Devito as Wit would also make me immediately love whatever happens in his scenes 10 times more lmao

I agree with the comments about Wit's voice, he always sounded much more... I don't know, blasé and I guess witty (pardon the pun) in my head. But knowing what some of us know of Wit's real background at this point, maybe this voice was chosen for a reason? I don't know if BrandoSando has any input in the casting of audio books, but if he does, maybe we all were wrong about how Wit sounds? Maybe it sounds like this for a reason?
