People who say it's vain to not want acne are people who have never had a chronic skin issue. I don't have acne, I have rosacea, but I can tell you that it definitely affects your quality of life. Not only is it carrying the burden of public scrutiny every single day of people looking at you and judging you, it's *painful*. All the time. And it's incredibly frustrating to be in pain every day no matter what you do.
@mashaa.75093 жыл бұрын
People are so judgemental. They will see someone with troubled skin and tell us about home remedies as if they have any idea what theyre talking about. Theres often an assumption that were just not doing enough. Not washing our face not trying hard enough to use the right product etc. As if genetic, hormonal, autoimmune conditions are not a thing. No random person, you have not unlocked the hidden secrets of treating acne, exzema, or rosaeca. I had no idea rosaeca can be painful, thats awful. I hope youve found ways to manage it a little!!
@nellis93773 жыл бұрын
@@mashaa.7509 you're exactly right. People need to learn to mind their own business. Like, people are aware of what's on their face. They know what they look like, they live in their own body. I don't need some random to tell me what I need to "fix" about my body - I am well fkn aware. I don't know if everyone's rosacea is painful, but mine is as it's gotten worse as I've aged. I feel like I have sunburn on my face 24/7. I have Sjögrens Syndrome as well so that might be contributing. I was on steroid therapy (for something else) for a long time and getting acne is a side effect and I really empathize for people who have acne regardless. It really hurts.

@@nehapal2583 sorry to hear that 😔 i was on 20mg for 11 months. It was said the “conservative” approach i didn’t experience any side effects except joint pain. i was on doxycycline for 1 year then acne came after right after i stop taking it so that is when we decided that i need to be on isotretinoin. I had my blood tested every month and 2 months after completing the drug, each time my doctor said i am healthy and there’s nothing to be worried about. Good luck on your acne journey. Isotretinoin is a miracle drug for me. 🤍
@cecilygreen38603 жыл бұрын
@@nehapal2583 I know this comment was a while ago but having just complete my Isotrentinoin journey I wanted to comment. The guidance from my dermatologist was that I needed to be on the medication until 2 things occurred. 1. I reached 120mg of the medication to my body weight. (I weigh 60kg so that was 7200mg accumulative dose) and 2. I was completely clear of any spots for two months. She was strict on the last point to the fact I was clear for a month then got 1 spot and have to wait another 2 months until I finished. Therefore, To me (I’m no doctors and don’t want to give advice) but it sounds like a 3 month course is quite short. I was on 20mg to start then increased to 50mg for the majority of the 7 months I was on it and was clear after 5 months. I did experience several symptoms and would agree with the descriptions “the devils drug” (towards the end there were a lot of tears!!) I also had dry skin, dry eye (to the point my vision was a little blurry until I saw an eye doctor), I had joint and muscle pain, definitely felt depressed which was weird for my normal temperament. And the the usual extremely dry skin and hair. Even with all of this I would say it was one of the best decisions I’ve made, the freedom having clear skin has given me (both mentally and physically) has been tremendous. I would recommend doing it if it’s right for you but I’d do a lot of reading and find the right doctor to do it with. I first spoke to one dermatologist and didn’t like his vibe (didn’t want to do blood test, was very casual about the whole thing etc) and decided to find someone else who had been great. This is a really long message but I hope it helps you with your journey. My only recommendation would be if you are on a high dose to your body weight I’d talk to your dermatologist about easing off the medication (I.e reducing to 20mg) for the last month or two before coming off it. Might make it a bit of an easy transition for your body as it can be quite extreme. Hope this helps!

I remember that my mom and I had to sign something saying that we were aware of the risks related to pregnancy... I still can't believe it happened, but we knew nothing of skin care back then, and we just trusted the doctor. She never told me I needed sunscreen with that treatment, so I never did. Thank you thank you THANK YOU for talking about the connection between mental health and acne! I had hormonal cystic acne all throughout my teens 20s and 30s. I'm now 36 and seem to have a handle on it, or I'm in some kind of oasis. Whatever I'll take it. But never out of all the dermatologist or primary care physicians that I saw for my acne ever mentioned or asked about my mental health surrounding my acne. Especially during the time when it was on my chest or back and very hard to hide, very painful, and just relentless, things in your head just get very dark. And I did feel vain for thinking negative or bad thoughts about myself or about my skin and I did even in my head feel like I was complaining to myself about a skin issue like acne. And I'm not even taking into consideration the comments from others about my skin and how that affected me. Now as an adult I know that acne affects a lot of people in a lot of different ways but this was never talked about in any health class, and any education class at school, with any adult, or any healthcare provider. I am now on an antidepressant as of this year for stress, depression, and anxiety related to the last 2 years of my life, but I feel that this could have greatly improved my self-esteem self-worth, and combated all those negative thoughts that I had for 15 plus years of my life.

Other than that, this is a great informative video!

@@SebastianoZanda There were some case studies in the past that linked isotretinoin with the onset of IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) but then there were other case studies that said there is no link between the two. Which is exactly what Dr. Idriss said in her video, she just misspoke when she said what IBD is. She accidentally said irritable bowel disorder when she really was talking about inflammatory bowel disease. The names are similar so it is very easy to misspeak.

@@marisadaniela6 You’re very welcome! I know the two terms are similar so they get interchanged a lot, even though they are very different. If your friend has IBD then they either have Ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease. UC and Crohn’s are honestly both awful diseases to have. They cause some serious symptoms, have to be treated with either prescription medications or surgery, and they increase a person’s risk of developing colon cancer. Irritable bowel syndrome on the other hand causes some symptoms that are similar, but there isn’t actually any inflammation of the colon; it is mostly treated with dietary changes, and isn’t associated with increased risk for colon cancer. That’s probably more info than you wanted to know, but I figured I’d go ahead and share how they’re different.

I agree with Benny when he says it's a devil's drug. I took isotretinoin twice (to treat persistant acne and, later, papulopustular rosacea) and it made me have pretty bad side effects, mentally and physically. I developed fat liver (the drug is known to increase cholesterol and triglycerides levels), weak skin barrier and dehydration, severe dry elbows and lips, and still didn't get to manage my complexions. During treatment I had issues with eye lubrication, most of my scars are from the "purging" period (common between second to third month of treatment) and I had to buy several other drugs to manage treatment's consequences. I'm aware I may be a rare case, but anyone can be the ONE in a million. Always talk to your dermatologist and only take this medication as a last resource.

@@reneeroutzahn Not at all. I just agreed with the term because of all things that happened to me, and I didn't discourage anyone, I even recommended people to take it as a last resource. I just think skincare is totally individualized and the way “death pills” or evil treatments sound, it will discourage many people from even considering the treatment, that judge everything by the court of public opinion. It’s food for thought about a video topic. I’m an esthetician so I like to understand where people come from when making polarizing comments about skincare treatments and products. I think we need to see videos where isotretinoin has had positive outcomes in order to have a more balanced public view of it.

@@reneeroutzahn I understand. Some people may not be so understanding of hyperbolic expressions. They're not meant to polirize or generalize, just like in this case. Of course it's not the devil's drug literally, there are many successful stories with isotretinoin's treatment. But, for ME (and for so many other people, just search it on Reddit), it was a bad experience and I'm simply exposing mine here. I think I should have had been clearer and disclaimed it at the beginning of my comment. Apologize for that.

Thank you for this enlightening react video, Dr. Shereene~ 💕 These famous people are so lucky that you reacted on their skincare routine because it already equates to FREE derm consultation. 😊✨ I bet they'll watch this and be taking notes to improve their routine. Hahahaha

In case this helps anyone: My PD started in 2015 after I experienced trauma, I went to so many dermatologists and it kept on getting misdiagnosed which only made the condition worse. Fast forward to 2019, the only thing that helped me was isotetrinoin, devils drug? More like science's miracle. I had to go on it twice, and I would do it all over again. Imaging experiencing PTSD and on top of that having your skin exploding, not cute. It didn't make me worse in the mind, but I did experience joint stiffness and tiredness, and hyper hidrosis on the face (which is mostly gone now). These days I have found a routine that keeps it at bay (given that both PTSD and PD can be chronic conditions to some people), my best advice is to keep it SIMPLE and boring. My routine is I cleanse with vanicream gentle cleanser, then I moisturize with Malezia urea 5% and elta md uv clear untinted for spf. At night same cleanser and moisturizer and the Malezia Benzoyl peroxide if I'm having bumpies. Recently I went through my trauma anniversary and even tho I felt absolutely shit emotionally, my skin was okay, and I didn't cleanse it for a couple of days, but it was strong enough to withstand the storm, this was a breakthrough for me. I don't even try to exfoliate anymore with this routine because my skin is baby smooth from the urea, so if its available to you def try giving this brand a shot

Goodmorning! ☺️ i have a question lol what do you think of natural products like from Lush? I like to buy their refrigerated oatfix face mask but should I stop buying these type of products or how do you feel about them?

I'm wondering about this too! I like some of Lush's toners...everything smells so nice in their line, but not always sure if it's great for my skin!

Too much fragrance
@collegeopera3 жыл бұрын
If your skin isn’t reacting to it (rash, change in texture etc) then you are probably fine with it even if it has fragrance. Not everyone becomes sensitive to fragrance albeit it’s the most common culprits with sensitivity complaints.
@cassandra432102 жыл бұрын
Lush is crap, nothing with so much fragrance can do any good. I can smell the shops from the other side of the street and I get a headache 😂😂😂😂 I use fragranced things sometimes (love lavender scented stuff before bed) but enough is enough. I don't wanna feel like I bathed in perfume.

I stopped using soap on my face and began using coconut oil as a moisturizer and experienced a sharp decline in acne breakouts. Now that I've cut most gluten and sugar out of my diet I have almost zero acne. Of course I now use Cerave sunscreen daily over vitamin c, and otc retinol and lotion nightly.

I was given a sample of a cream from my dermo in 2017 - stopped using it after a week like the derm said, and i had an enormous rash around my mouth. Turns out one of the side effects listed in the cream (which my derm did not disclose) was listed: personal dermatitis. It's been a long road so I feel for Benny and anyone who has this terrible skin condition.

Shereene hi, can you talk about face hair removal devices like for baby hair (duvet) and more intense hair etc? Also, does esthetician (not dermatologist) facial sessions are useless? I don't get the same results at home and other skin guru said that these treatments are useless if you are using right products at home. What are your thoughts on this ? Oh oh! And, what do you about Melanie Grant skin guru??? What about this hype, Merci !! xx

I had cystic acne in high school and college too. My derm wait it was the worst. He put me on retinA. It was heaven!!! Even acne scar..gone. fast forward a year or 2 later they are back with a vengeance.... that's where proactive comes in...proactive is what stoped it for me. I used it for a few years. Now I barely have acne scar. YES!!! It takes a toll on you self-esteem as a whole.

I personally use Hulie Prodigieuse dry oil by Nuxe to take of my make up: I spraybit on my hands, then massage my face and eyelashes with it and then I clean it out with a damp microfiber cloth.
