As a hairstylist of almost a few years, I can tell you, that you are not meant to apply strong hair shampoo on your hair. I've noticed hair lines of so many folks, and I spotted that folks who were using strong shampoos typically had poor hair line. So I suggest only to use gentle shampoo only. I myself use and advise to apply littleextrra coconioon shampoo only. Also, do hot oil massage twice a week as it enhances circulation and promotes healthy hair growth.

Thanks so much for your content. I listened to influencers and coworkers who were saying that if you have oily hair you need to "balance" your scalp by going long periods of time without washing it b/c it's an over-washing issue. Learned my lesson as I ended up with an awful seb derm situation that required prescription steroids to start to heal. Took mnnths and months to really get it under control. The lesson? Only listen to derms - I should have known better...

I notice many general practitioners just assume it’s fungus and prescribe that ketonazole shampoo, I’m a home care nurse and see it all the time. It was a medicated shampoo though that was only avail from a script. When he was a teenager he also had bad acne so the dermatologist ordered Accutane which stopped the acne and significantly improved the psoriasis to the scalp. Occasionally he gets a skin flare and for that he has triamcinolone cream that the the dermatologist prescribes. Hope this helps somewhat

Ive been dealing with seb dermatitis for decades now. Took me a long time to accept that it’s a chronic issue. Regular hair washing definitely helps. Mine always starts to act up the longer I wait between washes. It can be annoying bc I’m dying my hair now to cover grays and most dandruff shampoos are pretty harsh. My hair has always been really thick and frizzy which I used to take care of but since getting seb derm I haven't been able to use conditioner or styling products and my hair has become super dry poofy and frizzy. I was hoping you would mention apple cider vinegar! I heard about that many years ago. Mix one part apple cider vinegar to three parts water in a spray bottle and apply on your scalp and let sit for 20 minutes or so before taking a shower. Then wash your hair as normal. It worked! It was amazing. I'm sure it won't work for everybody but that's my go-to now.

My hair being incredibly curly, thick, and coarse is difficult to wash thoroughly, but ive learned the value of rinse and repeat. My scalp past my hairline is clean, its much much easier to get the shampoo further back around the crown. And it has ended up saving me a lot more shampoo than just meticulously sectioining and coating every square centimeter of my scalp while also doing a more thorough job at the end of the day.

My question is what’s “normal shampoo”? Can I use H&S? Or a clarifying shampoo (which shouldn’t be used daily too)? I don’t know if they are too strong and I’ll end up damaging my hair more. Please give specific type or brand of shampoo recommendation for “normal”. PS: I have dandruff and experiencing hairfall.

I believe I started having dandruff as early as before 6th grade in school. I've been using this particular anti-dandruff shampoo for at least 18 years now. Whenever I tried using regular shampoos (idk why, maybe just to try how it will work on my hair), at least a week after, my scalp gets itchy with white flakes, so I then go back to using this anti-dandruff shampoo again. Just recently, I started to wash may hair every other day because they said (from some people I know and from those videos I have watched) you really don't have to wash hair everyday. After 1-2 weeks, my scalp started getting so itchy. Went back to washing my hair everyday again and now it feels better. My hair gets oily after a day and I guess it's also because of where I live that skipping hair wash is really a no-no.

Yep. I have been using Head & Shoulders every day for almost 40 years. If I do not wash my hair every day, dandruff comes back. I can alternate in a different shampoo a couple of times a week, but definitely Head & Shoulders for the most part. The whole "oily scalp training" is ridiculous. As I have said before, if this were true, people with an oily face could not wash their face daily and lessen their oil production. Absolutely not going to happen. Oil glands and their production have nothing to do with shampoo or soap.

Started this problem before pandemic hits. Tried cream first but did not work. So I went to different dermatologists, prescribed shampoos but just getting worse. Finally, had one dermatologist prescribed clobetasol scalp application, and after a week, seborrheic dermatitis all gone. So I used Head and Shoulders as shampoo, but after a month not putting the steriod I can see it's coming back. I just want to know if I will use again the clobetasol? Coz some doctors said to stop using it's not good for long term use.

10/24/2023 8:42 PM. Can you use a conditioner on your hair after rinsing off the dandruff shampoo? Is regular shampoo used at all. I am not clear on the how to and when to process. Thank you, Mary

What products would you recommend for people with fashion-coloured hair? I have blue hair and shampoos like Head & Shoulders also acts as a colour stripper, which obviously I don't want haha.

Also tend to avoid Garnier shampoo... that will dry your scalp out and make it too flakey dry and itchy!

I have seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp and face diagnosed by doctors. I have super oily skin. I'm so fed up with beauticians when I go to get my eyebrows waxed telling me I need to use more oil and moisturise more because they think it's the same as dry skin or psoriasis. Mine is caused by the opposite as these, it gets so much worse when I add more oil. When I wash my hair every other day with anti-dandruff shampoo that's the best for keeping it at bay

use the shampoo on your eyebrows too and scrub it in...sometimes I use a tooth brush to scrub it in. Not harshly, gently....it really worked for me.

If I use these shampoos, what conditioner do I use. I find that I still need to use conditioner as my hair gets tangled without it, but I’m scared the conditioner just nullifies the job of the shampoo.

Yes, and not enough people talk about it. I suffered from chronic dandruff for over 10 years and is was so bad it was affecting my eyebrows, around my nose, and behind my ears. I tried various different remedies but they only treated the dandruff temporarily. I then bought a showerhead water filter (you can buy for like $30 on amazon) and noticed the difference immediately. The flakes slowly started to go away as my skin started to heal. The redness and inflammation on my face were gone. Both my skin and hair feel softer and firmer. Highly recommend for anyone suffering from any skin condition.

Not sure what I have but I wash my hair with a comb and shampoo almost everyday, its always 2 inches or shorter. If I were to run my fingers through my hair it would start snowing and I combed it for 5+ minutes and the flakes wouldn't stop. Also noticed its in my eyebrows and I never had this problem until like 3 years ago when I was 14.

I am not sure what I have but it started in just one spot on the nape of my neck in 2014 and now its the back of my head but not top. If I am working outside and put something around my hair the itching starts, from moisture/sweat. Sleeping and getting too warm also make the back of my hair itch. I also have natural curly hair so washing it everyday is something I cant do since I have to blow it dry then use a flat iron to straighten it. Since it could be yeast, could that be caused by too much sugar, or could medications for anxiety cause it or being under great stress. When mine began I was caring for my mother who had dementia, which led to panic and anxiety from stress thus the need for medication. I have been tempted to just cut all my hair off, look like a sheep and try to get rid of whatever this is, I am so tired of it!!!! I am looking for any advice anyone can offer.

Now how does this work for ethnic hair? Because I tend to have patches in certain places. It’s not an all over scalp issue. But I have kinky, curly, type 4 low porosity hair. It takes a good week or two before my scalp becomes oily. My hair is categorically drier than other types and most shampoos are EXTREMELY drying and make my hair extremely difficult to manage on wash days. I do notice a large increase in the number of dry patches when I use oils on my scalp so I don’t use them.

As I have aged my scalp oil has reduced, and I now can get away with using Dove dandruff shampoo. It's milder and doesn't smell nasty. I have very fine hair, and washing often makes it dry and damaged. I am currently washing 2x a week with the Dove dandruff shampoo and am having good results.

I have really dry skin and can control dandruff with a shampoo from la Roche posay. There's just one spot one my head near my neck that's driving me crazy, it's so itchy all the time. And the longer I don't wash it gets worse. My GP gave me a shampoo for fungal but I'm not sure if it's psoriasis. Gonna see a derm.
