So thankful for you! I completely changed my skincare routine this year; I incorporated daily sunscreen usage, vitamin c, tretinoin, and salicylic acid. My skin has never looked so clear, and this is coming from someone prone to hormonal acne and excessive oil production! Can not thank you enough for your videos! 🤍

Can you tell me what products you’re using? I have oily acne prone skin too Using tretinoin every night. Using cerave cleanser and cerave moisturising lotion or aveeno moisturising lotion. What are you using? Xx The cleanser though I find doesn’t clean the best. I used Clinique facial soap for oily skin, it was good and removes makeup. It comes in a lid version now, but I kept the pump bottle and refill that. I should buy that oil cleaner to be honest for make up removal and sunscreen removal I guess. But the Clinique does really good.

@@Ohkeh640 I currently use: Morning: Dont usually wash my face in morning bc I wash it every night, so I start with Timeless Vitamin C (I love CE ferulic but a bit pricy for a college student like myself), Kiehls moisturizer, and Elta MD Tinted UV Clear sunscreen! Night: Wash face with skinceuticals LHA cleanser (I sweat consistently washing my face with this has helped a ton!), tretinoin cream 0.025%, and lip mask from laniege. I will occasionally use a BHA toner (farmacy green sweep) but not everyday. I used to be on oral spironolactone and it def helped but stopped taking recently (just to see how my skin would do off…and I’m still clear!). I like cereve products for my body but not my face but I do have very oily skin; I rarely deal with dryness (just to give you an idea of my skin type!). Of course, talk to your dr/derm but hopefully this helps!

My favorites this year: 1. Tretinoin 2. PillowtalkDerm Flash Mask (love this sooooooooo much) 3. Purito Sunscreen I also began getting facials more and it has CHANGED my skin. I’ve been using Tret since last September and still struggled with acne. Facials helped to extract my very stubborn clogs and clear me up.

Some of my skincare faves are: - Dr. Dennis Gross peel pads (I am careful not to overuse them) - Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser (my beloved CeraVe started to burn my skin a bit, but this one is SO nice!) - Japanese Korean sunscreens! I’m from Canada and all the North American SPFs I’ve tried have BURNED my eyes so badly. 2022 was the year I discovered Japanese/Korean sunscreens and I am never looking back! - Aquaphor: sometimes I use this to seal in my eye cream, but most often I use it on my lips.

Hi Dr Sam my skin is extremely dry, menopausal, rosacea and eczema prone, so my favourite cleanser is the Avene antirougours refreshing cleansing milk/cream. This is the one I can use during a rosacea flare with no issues. It takes off makeup (including mascara) and spf without drying/stripping or needing a second cleanse. Double cleansing can just be too much when the skin is already irritated I find. My retinoid of choice is retinaldehyde and I use the one from Geek and gorgeous (Agame). I use the Paula's choice omega serum under it and the clinical ultra rich moisturiser (or their soothing body butter on the face, neck and chest in the Winter) over it. I find retinaldehyde less irritating than retinol or tretinoin. The Avene retrinal is similar, but the G&G is far more affordable and works just as well. I use the Avene physiolift eye around my eyes - it also contains retinaldehyde. I hope that helps in recommendations for hyper sensitive skin in your clients and for those with seriously dry skin the Paula's choice moisturisers are the best I've used so far. Best wishes.

Products in pumps, Yes! Packaging that allows me to see how much is left in the bottle, Yes! I understand the effects of light on some products but a little strip on the side of the bottle where I can see how much is in there? Is that too much to ask? Well, maybe if the packaging is oversized and exaggerates how much product I’m really getting (like chips..) 😅

In 2022, I finally broke up with apricot scrubs (the infamous name brand, and the various generic versions offered at almost every drug and grocery store). I'm well aware of chemical vs. physical exfoliation, but admit to being caught up by both. My compromise has been Neutrogena All-in-1 Acne Control daily scrub with 2% salicylic acid. A gentle almost non-scrub scrub that will satiate those of us who feel compelled to physically scrub without the harshness of apricot husks.

I’ll tell you what I posted to other dermatologists on here. My all time favorite cleanser is Purity Made Simple Cleanser by Philosophy. They worked with doctors on the formula for this. It’s a gentle gel cleanser that removes all waterproof mascara and makeup without stinging your eyes. It cleans the pores & sometimes I even like to use that with my Clarisonic Brush. If you like to double cleanse, you use this as your 2nd step. This will even remove temporary Tattoos. It’s a best selling cleanser in the US. I refer you to the videos on here by QVC for product Info & demos. I’m 59 & have been using that for at least 20 years now. It’s been a real game changer for my skin. Also for a first step oil cleanser I love the Peach Pudding Makeup cleanser by Peach & Lily, in their Peach Slices line. I don’t wear makeup everyday but still like to do the oil cleanse sometimes.

Hi Dr Ellis, thank you for the great video as always! May I also say that your blouse is gorgeous! About retinols: I started OTC retinoids last year and have been using the L'Oréal 0.2 retinol night serum (it's only 0.2 in the EU). Paired with a gentle cleanser, good moisturizer and not overdoing the quantity the instances of irritation have been minimal and I'm happy with the results (less and less breakouts, no PIH, flowing complexion) I find the base moisturizing too (I'm dehydration prone) The only times I have experienced irritation is whenever I was too generous with the amount I applied. I hope that helps anyone. Best wishes for the new year! ❤️

Ok so you asked for a tip on how to use Tretinoin without irritation and I have the solution. I am 47 and also have rosacea so I was only able to use it once or twice a week without irritation and would swap in a retinol on the other days...if I could. UNTIL I found the Ole Henriksen Strength Trainer face lotion. I went from one or twice a week to almost every single night with no irritation. I use this moisturizer morning and night. It looks thick, but it feels like a gel moisturizer and totally absorbs into the skin. I never hear anyone talking about it and swear it is a miracle worker. It is also reasonably priced AND if you want to try it before you buy the large size Sephora sells the smaller size for $19. I am 47 and have literally tried it all and this has worked the best. I use the Obagi Tretionin Gel .05% from my derms office...you will need a script or to buy from a doctors office. This combo is the absolute best and allows me to use it almost every single day.

Favourite cleanser: REN milk cleanser from their Evercalm range. It's my go-to 2nd cleanse cleanser, I've tried others but I always come back to that one (the anti redness serum from the same range is also one of my favourite winter serum, it's so soothing) Favourite Renitol: La Roche Posay, it was the first retinol I tried and my sensitive skin tolerates it well, it makes my skin looks brighter but also hydrated. I'm using the Cerave one now but I don't like it that much. Favourite toners: AHA BHA daily toner from Cosrx to exfoliate gently and the Propolis one to soothe the skin Favourite moisturizer: comfort ceramide cream by Cosrx, it's a thick moisturizer that I use in the winter. I've just opened a new ones last week when it was super cold. Other favourites: Clinique moisture surge mask, Cerave hydrating balm, La Neige lips mask, ROC hand cream, Cosrx sunscreen (actually most of the Cosrx products I've tried I've loved), Haru Haru wonder toner... From your list, I'm looking forward to try the cleansers you mentioned and the Tatcha moisturizer. Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and thanks for sharing your knowledge with us :)

So happy to discover this channel! I also started retinoids in 2022. First with CeraVe's Resurfacing Retinol Serum, which I only had mild irritation with despite having somewhat sensitive skin. What kinda shocked me is that I had LESS initial irritation when I upgraded to Adapalene (0.1%), despite it being a retinoid vs CeraVe's retinol (and encapsulated retinol at that). (I guess It's possible that that doesn't mean adapalene is less irritable, but perhaps my skin barrier was in a much better place when I started that vs. the retinol. Not sure but I'm sticking with adapalene either way.)

Hada Labo's cleansing oil has been my holy grail first cleanse product for the past 3 years 💛 I don't feel compelled to try new oil cleansers since discovering this product (though KraveBeauty's new Re-Wined is tempting me for the first time in a while!). Even though it's not a new release, Laneige's Cream Skin Refiner is my 2022 holy grail product. All the moisturisers I've tried, even the most lightweight ones cause breakouts around my mouth, and even when I skip that area, it tends to migrate downwards and create issues a few days later. The breakouts always resolve on their own a few days after I keep any moisturiser away from that area. It's made me really frustrated with using moisturisers at all (which I never really felt I needed throughout my life before getting into skincare), so Laneige's Cream Skin Refiner has been AMAZING at keeping my skin feeling moisturised and hydrated without me needing to put on a moisturiser.

I love your recommendations and will actually be repurchasing the hada labo oil cleanser to try again, I tried it a long time ago when I was first getting into skincare and really liked it then. Quick question, not skincare related lol where did you get your watch band? I have been looking everywhere for something reasonably priced that still looks elegant. Thanks again!

The budget Dermatolist suggests using "Skin Hero Bakuchiol + Calendula Bio-Retional serum. I may give that a try.

Thanks for all the informative content… are all of these products safe for rosacea skin??

New to retinol this year! I have extremely sensitive rosacea prone skin. At your recommendation, I tried the Medik8 Intelligent Retinol 3TR and have had no issues! I don’t love the smell though, that’s the only drawback. :)

So happy that it’s working for you!! Agree that the smell isn’t perfect but sometimes it’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make 🙃

I invested in Alastin (Ala$tin) Restorative Eye Cream. Feels great and not all that taxing on the budget if you choose to pay in installments. Honestly, I use sunscreen more for preventative purposes so it's hard to gauge if it's helped more than a less expensive product. I've since purchased L'oreal Revitalift Eye Serum. Previously, Roc. As many have said, not sure that an eye cream is all that needed when face products are safely applied around the eye area.

If you are wearing light make up or a BB cream on top of your sunscreen, how do you reapply? Do you put another layer on top of your makeup?

My fave is skinceuticals 2:4:2 moisturiser

I'd absolutely love an under eye care for dummies because although I'm getting better at the rest of my face, my under eyes are screaming for help- especially since it's winter and I live in a high UV,High pollution environment Right now I'm double cleansing with abalone and aveeno sensitive skin and using either cereve/la Roche posay for a moisturizer... and of course sunscreen. I'm using either vanicream 50 or blue lizard sensitive 50 right now. Still trying to fine tune things as I learn though. Do you recommend anything for very sensitive, dry, acne prone skin specially? I'm a college student so money is as tight as sleep but I'm trying my very best 😅

Love all of these suggestions! Have you ever used the Dr. Dennis Gross pro facial steamer? I’m interested in buying it and would like to hear your thoughts. I know you really like that lines daily facial peels!! (I do too)
