I feel this so much. When I was a teenager in the early 90s, my mom took me to a dermatologist for my acne. The derm gave me a script for Retin-A, told me to stay out of the sun, and told me to stay away from Neutrogena and other fragranced products. But she didn't really talk to me about how to take care of my skin. The Retin-A got rid of my acne, and in fact, was the only thing I ever put on my face that got rid of it, but it also sort of ate my face. I feel like good skincare knowledge, advice, and products were not very accessible back then. Rich folks had access to it because they could afford the products, meanwhile, my babysitting money was getting me Clearisil, Oxy-10, Clean and Clear, etc. and all those things seemed to make my skin worse. lol. I feel like I have skin PTSD. I'm nervous to put new products on my skin, and it took my friend 3 days to convince me to try Cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer when I damaged my skin barrier recently. I am so glad that folks now have actual dermatologists on youtube now, especially younger folks so they can have proper advice on how to care for their skin at a young age, instead of being 45 like me, just now able to properly care for my skin.

Dr. Shah actually touched an important point. When I started my real skincare routine over a month ago to get rid of my hyperpigmentation, I started to look closely at my skin and saw things (flaws) I have never seen before. I’ve always had oily and sensitive skin (the oily skin doesn’t bother me because I think in the long run I’m going to look younger for longer haha) and oh WOW did I forget how much teenage skin just seeps oil. I’m lucky enough to not have majorly bad acne on my face (I have acne occasionally but I mostly struggle with acne on my arms, have ever since my first puberty rip) but I’ve noticed that where my facial hair is thickening I’m getting a couple angry spots on my chin. I’m making sure to keep the area clean and moisturised but I was genuinely concerned about acne scarring for a bit. Both doctors are good natured human beings that realize the public has access to so much information. In a perfect world false advertising would be punished more often. Thank you for being honest and giving your educated opinion on skincare. Please do more about mature skincare. Thank you

I just want to comment on the “protect your neck part”, my aunt who is now 72 told me when I was 15 why her neck looks the way it does. Back in her day they always said to protect the face, moisturize, sunscreen ect but the women around her never mentioned the neck. So now her neck is very aged compared to her skin on her fsceZ So I always try to make sure that area is getting moisturized & getting spf on there. Thank you for all information and tips on skin care.

The Neutrogena Sheer Zinc is amazing (and I have medium brown skin). My husband has deeper brown skin and it’s the only zinc sunscreen he’ll use because it disappears into his skin. Now the Ultra Sheer one?! That leaves a horrific white cast. Give the Sheer Zinc another try, Dr. Shah. Btw, love watching your channel. Great info and you guys keep things funny and light. Keep it up!

Pair down your regimen to the basics and avoid fragrance if you can. Double cleanse, then apply a moisturizer while your skin is still damp, then apply adapalene! In the morning rinse your face with water and apply a good mineral sunscreen under your makeup. It takes time, and the adapalene causes purging of the acne already forming under your skin, but after 3-4 months your skin will really turn a corner acne wise! After your skin gets to a good place, add in some kind of acid treatment like glycolic, lactic, or mandelic acid a few times a week. It will further unclog your pores and speed skin cell turnover even more which will help with both acne and aging. That being said if most of your acne is hormonal, that needs to be addressed first!

First timer here…and I smiled the whole way through! You two are so much fun and obviously adore each other which makes it that much more entertaining. My input: Show me videos focusing on each decade (yes-babies and kids too!!!) of typical skincare, including examples ranging from no to excellent skincare routines. I believe it would be equally as amazing if you spoke on the connections between caring for our skin and the other dimensions of health. What I am learning, now in my early 40’s, is how important my skin is to my mental and emotional heath in terms of self care. It has created a huge shift in my perceptions surrounding the skin care industry as well as the simple, loving act of caring for our skin and/or the skin of those we love. I look forward to going through your videos to get my learn on! Appreciate you both! 🤟🏼

When I was on accutane, it took about three months before I started seeing any depletion in my acne, and my dermatologist, at the time, even told me it would get worse within the first 2 months of treatment, but to hold out; I am glad I did.

Thanks for mentioning that allergies can develop at any time for any ingredient. This has been happening my entire life (eventually i will become allergic to almost everything I use anywhere on my skin). Claritin has been a miracle drug for me but i still get relapses, and had a major one when the quality of the generic Claritin versions went downhill several years ago. If you have a patient with chronic allergic contact dermatitis and their allergy meds stop helping, switch them back to the name brand of their allergy meds. An extended break from all products (yes, that's exactly what it sounds like - rebuild the microbiome from scratch...no pun intended) helps with a true hard reset of the immune response when nothing else is helping at all. Hth someone out there if/when the "textbook" methods stop working for them.

I'm so glad the doctor who mentioned NOT everything should go on your neck. HE IS RIGHT! I was doing that for 2 weeks my neck dried out and was so itchy, I have oily skin and started using Aquaphor on my neck. It healed but it took time. I use hyaluronic acid niacinamide and a retinol serum and I think the mix of the retinol on my neck was maybe too strong 🤷🏻♀️

I'm over 70 and still interested in skin care so please address us too. I wish when I was growing up in California that there had been sunblock products. I was the generation of baby oil mixed with iodine. ugh. Luckily as soon as sunblocks were available I began using them...and I moved to the Pacific NW which has a good climate for skin. Thank you for your informative videos.

Yes, I was using baby oil with iodine, too. I cringe to think of all the damage I did to my skin over the years. Not only the sunbathing but just never using sunscreen and not starting anti aging products decades ago.

Would LOVE to see ya’ll address how hair removal can impact the skin (e.g., PCOS). While I have really sensitive skin, I only seem to battle facial acne in the places where I also remove hair frequently. It makes logical sense but it’s so frustrating keeping up. Leave the hair alone, skin improves. Remove the hair because it’s unsightly, skin flares up.
@aliciaspaltner5654 Жыл бұрын
I get this issue too. They mention in a video that when you pluck a hair, the whole growth cycle of the hair starts over again and a new hair will have to emerge from the pore vs. when you dermaplane you are only cutting the hair down to the surface of the pore. Just my logic here, but I think there is less chance of the hair coiling/clogging the pore if you only shave it vs. plucking it. (Side note: Spironolactone has helped with the excess androgen that causes all the deep acne. My derm prescribed it and I am SO glad he did.)

It was really a relief listening to doctor saying- that he gets pimple all the time . Pimples are a part of life No matter how perfect your skincare routine is. 😀 Still my confidence shakes when I tend to have breakouts. Still I avoid going out on those days . 🙄 Is there any way out?
