I think one way the series went wrong was to change the art style to be very much like something you'd see in anime where as this Castlevania and the older ones had a western classic horror movie art style . Given the time period and location these games are set in the anime art style of the later games never made much sense .

VK on MSX2 came out on October 30 of 1986, almost 2 months after CV1 on the Famicom, released in the begining of September. They were developed simultaneously but the FC version was the primary; the MSX2 game got changed to be different from it, making it a "remake". Most people don't know the about Sharp X68000, since it's a Japan-only computer that sold less than 1000 units, and the Akumajo Dracula game there is included on the PSX version, so I didn't bother to mention it for that reason.

Though I never got to play this as I didn't own an SNES & it's more a remake of CS1, I still have to say it looks like one of the absolute, best games of all time ever made.
