Been to Dublin in may 2004, invited by Paul and Maggie Biggs ... slept at her Grandma's little house in Ringsend, spent nights at Temple Bar ... Porter House, Oliver St John Gogarty and all, met Peter Carberry, Allie and their friends, discovered Johnny Fox's restaurant, had fun with little Paulie in the tiny park, watched the ducks in the Liffey, early morning light : best moments in my life until then. Few years later, went to an Irish pub in Paris (yes i'm a froggy), listened to the band playing Irish music ... ended weeping like a child ... Hey friends : i'll never forget you ♥

Got to talk with Cathy, and she was delightful. Signed the CD I brought with me, her solo "All the Way Home." A night to remember. :)

to really hear irish music you have to visit ireland, especially the west coast, from top to bottom. i have loads of spanish friends here who would never believe me until they did eventually go, & then cry out 'why didnt i go sooner'? almost any decent pub will have live music. i have travelled the world & i believe that no other race lives & breathes music like the atlantic celts. same here by the way, in galicia. its one of the few things i miss about 'home'....

Picked up Dervish's "Playing with Fire" CD years ago when I was in Ireland. I had asked the guy in the music shop if there was some Irish music a bit less commercialized than "The Chieftains" , and this was what he put in my hand. Now, before Chieftain fans get all fluffled, I do own a couple Chieftain discs, including the one that has the cool version of Behind Blue Eyes with Roger Daltry. : )

I don't watch many KZbin videos more than once, but I can't get enough of this. After taking a perusal of Irish music KZbin videos, I think Dervish is going to be my favorite group. It must be the 33% Irish in my DNA. :) I also prefer these performances taped in the pubs rather than the big state performances. It seems to be more appropriate and homey.
@COWESSES9 жыл бұрын
+Randall Moon "Stage" not "state."
@elin62409 жыл бұрын
+Randall Moon I couldn't agree more. There is nothing like live music in an Irish pub, my favorites, Tig Coeli in Galway, Gus O'Connor's in Doolin, Matt Malloy's (owned by Matt Malloy, who is one of the Chieftains) in Westport. The quality of the music is astounding. And you can purchase a decent Bodhran for around $110. They vary in terms of the depth of the drum.

The piece that ... well, I didn't catch its name but it's in full swing at 21:00 (aha--"the Hungry Rock"?) ... is one of the more magical pieces I've heard in this type of music. Ranks with the strange beauty of Maids of Mitchelstown or The Blackbird or The Butterfly (Bothy Band) or maybe Barde's "Jenny's Rambles" (look this up ... I can't find it on the 'Tube, but I believe it's a person's birth-to-death set into a tight instrumental ... okay, it's not as ethereal as this present tune, less subtle). This is gorgeously played. One comment is I wish they'd show the bouzouki player more--entire Hungry Rock, even when the bouzouki and mandolin were only playing, they showed only the mando...

T love the way she moves her hands and body to the music,,,she becomes the music,As Yeats said,,o brightening glance,,,,how can you tell the dancer from the dance,It is a miracle of grace,Sinead O Connor at her best did exactly the same thing,Is if because women live in their bodies more than men can live in theirs,,,or is it that music and song are organic and feminine,,,like pregnancy and breastfeeding,,,life itself,I suppose thats why folk music is greater than classical music,,,closer to life itself, Victoria de los Angeles singing Albanez Four Aztec Songs is truly great,,,but then the Aztec songs are folk songs,,and Victoria is part gypsy,Music and song,,like religion,,,must be female in origin Blame Ms Cathy Jordan for this not me,,,she is the muse,As Plato suggests in his dialogue Ion it is the music that possesses the writer,,,the writer is only the vehicle for a higher truth that the music embodies,
